    Howard W. Guinn, age 90, Center on Aging and Health, 880 South Mohawk Drive, Erwin, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at his residence.

    Mr. Guinn was a native of Hampton and was a resident of Holland, Michigan, for many years before moving to Unicoi County in 1980. He was a son of the late Luther and Nancy Whitehead Guinn.

    Mr. Guinn retired from Consumer Power Company, Holland, Michigan, in 1979 as a heavy equipment operator following twenty-five years of service. He was a Christian.

    Mr. Guinn was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Philippine Islands during World War II.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Jack, Oliver, Bob and Dan Guinn and Blaine Whitehead; four sisters, Julia Roberts, Posie Tolley, Eliza Guinn and Mable Ingram.

    The funeral service for Mr. Guinn will be conducted Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. from the Erwin Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Wayne Guinn officiating. Special music will be provided by Cecil and Georgia Owens. Interment will follow in Guinn Cemetery, Simerly Creek Community of Unicoi.

    The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel and other times at the home of a sister, Elsie Tolley, 1008 Marbleton Road, Unicoi.

    Elsie Guinn Tolley, 87, 1008 Marbleton Road, Unicoi, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, January 12, 2015, in the Unicoi County Hospital Long Term Care.
    She was a native of Mitchell County, NC, and was a daughter of the late Luther and Nancy Jane Whitehead Guinn.
    Mrs. Tolley had worked for Industrial Garments, V.A. Center and North American Rayon. She was a charter and founding member of the Fork Mountain Freewill Baptist Church in Roan Mountain.
    Mrs. Tolley was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved the Lord and her family. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
    In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by six brothers, Blaine Whitehead, Oliver, Bob, Dan, Jack and Howard Guinn; seven sisters, Julie Roberts, Posie Tolley, Liza Guinn, Mabel Ingram, Vicie Tolley, Lillian Jones and Mary Whitehead; two grandsons, Raymond B. Tolley Jr. and Tommy Joe Tolley; a granddaughter, Stacy Yarber; a great-grandson, T.J. Yarber.
    Survivors include her loving husband of 69 years, Blake Tolley; four children, Phyllis Tolley, of Unicoi, Margaret Gregg and husband, Dallas, of Unicoi, Bruce Tolley and wife, Goldie, of Elizabethton, and Raymond Tolley, of Unicoi; a sister, Effie Carver, of Hampton; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services for Mrs. Tolley will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, January 15, 2015, in the New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, Marbleton Road, with Rev. Kenneth Grindstaff and Rev. Norman Loveless officiating.
    The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Other times at the home of her daughters, Margaret, 1008 Marbleton Road, Unicoi, and Phyllis, 117 Village Lane, Unicoi.
    Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 16, 2015, in the Guinn Cemetery in Hampton with Rev. Donnie Harris officiating. Active pallbearers will be Anthony and Dwight Gregg, Holden Tolley, Steve Nelson, Jerry Gill, Marcus Wilcox, David Cigarro and B.J. Tolley. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Carver, Roy, David, Joe, Keith and Kent Tolley, Doyle Jones, Dalton Gill. Cody Pyron and Caleb Arrwood. For those attending the graveside service you are asked to meet at the church Friday by 10:10 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
    The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Jason Colinger, Vikki Bryant, Candace Short and the entire staff of the Unicoi County Hospital Long Term Care for the loving care and kindness they provided.

    HAMPTON - Effie Carver, 93, Hampton, passed away Friday, November 11, 2022 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Luther Guinn and Martha Whitehead . She was a homemaker. She loved to read, work in her garden and her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Carver, a son: Keith, three sisters, one brother and several half sisters and brothers.

    Survivors include a son: Jim Carver. Three Daughters: Charlene Williams, Sheila (Tom) Gray and Charlotte Tolley. Five Grandchildren: Angela (David), Stonecypher, Chris Tolley, Josh (Brittany) Lewis, John Arnett and Sarah (Wayne) Carr. Three Great Grandchildren: Logan Tolley, Lucas and Miley Carr, Ayden and Felicity Arnett.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gary Whitehead, Rev. Bob Campbell and Rev. John Vance officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2022 in the Guinn Cemetery with Terry and Tim Carver officiating. Music will be provided by Beth Stevens.     She married William O'Shaughnessy on 1 July 1967.

    She was the owner/operator of the Forget Me Not home in Canton, Ohio for many years. With the help of her residents, she was the nurse, aide, cook, & housekeeper.

    At the age of 84, Faye passed away on 20 May 2013 in Canton, Ohio of leukemia.

    Mr. Tolley was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Jim and Posie
    Guinn Tolley. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and three
    brothers.
    Mr. Tolley was a retired employee of Republic Steel, Canton, Ohio. He was a
    Free Will Baptist and attended the Valley Forge House of Prayer.
    Survivors include his wife, Callie Johnson Tolley; two daughters, Judy Byrd,
    Johnson City, and Molly Lingerfelt, Hampton; three sons, Terry L. Tolley and
    Leslie Keith Tolley, both of Elizabethton, and Mitchell Tolley, Hampton;
    three sisters, Irene Davis, Jonesborough, Ethel Coffey, East Canton, Ohio, and
    Fay O'Shaughnesse, Canton, Ohio; and four brothers, McKinley Tolley, North
    Industry, Ohio, Earl Tolley, Louisville, Ohio, Dillard Tolley, East Canton,
    Ohio, and Cecil Tolley, Hampton. Eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren
    and several nieces and nephews also survive.
    Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

    TOLLEY -- Funeral services for Mack Mitchell Tolley, 66, 6551 Highway 19E,
    Roan Mountain, who died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, will be conducted at 8 p.m.
    Thursday, May 24, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Charlie Russell
    officiating. Music will be provided by The Blood Bought Quartet. Graveside
    services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, in the Tolley Cemetery,
    Whitehead Hill. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the
    cemetery at 1050 a.m. Friday, will be Landon Lingerfelt, Steve Byrd, Michael
    Tolley, Ikie Tolley, Billy Hurley and Ronnie Reece. Honorary pallbearers will be
    the Staff of the Second and Fourth Floors and ICU of Johnson City Medical
    Center and the men of Valley Forge House of Prayer. The family will receive
    friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at
    the residence of a son, Mitchell Tolley, 104 Whittemore Road, Hampton
    (Fairview Community). Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 1050 a.m.

    Cecil Tolley, 75, a life-long resident of the Fairview Community in Hampton, entered into eternal rest with our Lord on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief illness and complications from a massive heart attack.
    Cecil, who was of the Freewill Baptist Faith, attended Fairview Freewill Baptist Church as a child. He was the last surviving son of 13 children of the late Jim and Posie Whitehead Tolley. A student at Fairview School and a Hampton Bulldog, Cecil left school in his teenage years to care for his ailing mother.
    A life-long farmer, Cecil served many years at Johnson City's Magnavox Plant and retired due to visual disability from the Unicoi County Gas Utility District. He cherished listening to the county police scanner, telling jokes, spending time with his family while eating Long John Silver's fish or Kentucky Fried Chicken and loving his wife of 54 years, Georgia Blevins Tolley.
    Cecil, affectionately known as "Pops," "Papaw," Pap," and "Old Man," was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Victoria Faith McQueen; his brothers, infant Lonnie, Ronnie, Carl, Mack, Ken, Dillard and Earl Tolley; and his sisters, infants Catherine and Christine Tolley, Faye (Bill) O'Shaughnessy, Ethel (Oscar) Coffey and Irene (Lloyd) Davis.
    In addition to his wife, Cecil is survived by their children, Betty and Jobe Tolley, Hampton, Kitty Tolley, Hampton, Cecil Wayne Tolley, Hampton, Shelby and David McQueen and Annie and Danny McQueen. Others include his grandchildren, Danielle and Abigail Bates, Jobe Tolley, Courtney Tolley, Alexandria, Katarina and Izabella McQueen, as well as his great-grandchildren, Lucas Bates, Nathan Peters, Elana and Joshua Furches; a special cousin, Mabel Tolley; a special nephew, Norman Coffey; and many other nieces, nephews and extended family.
    A graveside service will take place on Saturday, July 30, at 12 noon at the Tolley-Cornett Cemetery in the Fairview Community with Rev. Shane Whittemore and Rev. Henry Berry officiating with Cecil's favorite songs of "Great Speckled Bird," "Me and God" and "I'll Fly Away" being played. Active pallbearers will be Billy Brown, Junior Blevins, Bobby Furches, Nathan Peters and his sons-in-law, Jobe Tolley, Danny and David McQueen. Honorary pallbearers will be Mabel Tolley, Norman Coffey, Landon Lingerfelt, Robert "Bob" Potter and the current and previous staff of the Unicoi County Gas Utility District. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet the family at the Tolley-Cornett Cemetery off Whittemore Road at 11:50 a.m. Saturday. It was Cecil's wish to arrive at the cemetery via horse and wagon from the Fairview FWB Church, courtesy of Les Roberson and Landon Lingerfelt, on Saturday.

    Cecil married Georgia Ray Blevins on 26 May 1962 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Georgia (daughter of Frank Blevins and Pearl Caroline Byrd) was born about 1942 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 11 Aug 2021 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Tolley Cemetery, , Carter County, Tennessee.     Raymond Tolley, age 63, Unicoi, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday, July 28, 2016. He was a Carter County native and lived in North Carolina for twenty-five years before moving to Unicoi in 1964. Mr. Tolley retired from PTI Transportation where he was employed as a truck driver. He was a member of Marbleton Free Will Baptist Church.
    Mr. Tolley was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Guinn Tolley in 2014 and his son, Raymond Blake Tolley, Jr. in 1980.
    He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his father, Blake Daniel Tolley of Johnson City; one daughter, Jennifer Haire of Myrtle Creek, OR; one brother, Bruce Tolley of Elizabethton; one sister, Phyllis Tolley of Unicoi; two grandsons: David Cigarroa and Kaleb Arrowood; three granddaughters: Autumn Arrowood, Brooklynn Arrowood and Ella Haire.
    A private graveside service will be held for Mr. Tolley.

    Carl Tolley Jr., 68, Hampton, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Johnson City Medical Center.
    A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Carl Tolley Sr. and Daisy Bentley Tolley.
    Carl was a retired truck driver with Birchfield Construction. He loved boating on Watauga Lake and loved collecting guns. He was a member of Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Buckles.
    Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Penny Shell Tolley; one daughter, Carla (Travis) Fleenor; five grandchildren, Christa Presnell, Andrea (Greg) Lee, Kaleb Church, Brent Buckles and Todd Hughes Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Evan Wyatt, Gavin Lee and Liam Presnell; three sisters, Juanita Clark, Margaret Jenkins and Shirley “Susie” Tolley; one brother, Richard Tolley; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Harold Presnell.
    A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, February 17, in the Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Shane Waters officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers will be Travis Fleenor, Todd Hughes, Brent Buckles, Chester Greene, Greg Lee and Sandy Shell.

    Molly Lou Lingerfelt, 56, of Hampton, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 2, 2018, at Johnson City Medical Center.
    She was born November 2, 1961 in Akron, Ohio to Callie Johnson Tolley and the late Mack M. Tolley. She had lived most of her life in Carter County.
    Molly attended Hampton High School. She was of the Baptist Faith. She loved her horses, loved to travel and loved to crochet.
    Survivors include her son, Landon D. Lingerfelt, Hampton; her mother, Callie Tolley, Hampton; three brothers, Mitchell, Terry and Keith Tolley; her sister, Judy Byrd; several nieces and nephews; and the father of her son, Landon L. Lingerfelt.
    A Celebration of Life Service for Molly Lou Lingerfelt will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, at College Park Free Will Baptist Church, Milligan, with the Rev. Ronnie Reece officiating.
