ELIZABETHTON - Opal Benfield Street, age, 91, of Elizabethton, left her earthly home on June 27, 2018 to join her heavenly family and her savior, Jesus Christ, following an extended illness.

Opal was born in Carter County to the late Amos and Mary Benfield. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Kyle Street; and her sisters, Margaret, Evelyn, Wilma and Jean.

For many years, she and her husband owned a general store in Limestone Cove. Street's Store became a community meeting place where friendships were made and remain today. Her kindness and generosity will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews, to whom she provided love, laughter and support. A true "fairy godmother!" She was a life-long member of Valley Forge Christian Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.

A graveside service and inurnment to celebrate the life of Opal Benfield Street will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Tommy Oaks, officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 2:20 PM.

Wilma Colbaugh, 87, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her family on Monday, July 31, 2017, at Pine Ridge Care & Rehab Center. Wilma was born in Carter County to the late Amos and Mary Cuthbertson Benfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tyler C. Colbaugh, on September 27, 2010, and three sisters, Margaret Williams, Evelyn Oaks and Jean Donahue.
Wilma retired as a sales clerk from Watson's Department Store and was a member of Borderview Christian Church, where she sang in the choir for over 50 years. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, being with her family and her pet cat, "Tommy."
Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Teresa Honeycutt and husband Michael, Elizabethton; two sons, Jack Colbaugh and wife Julia, Pinole, Calif., and Tyler Colbaugh and spouse Barry Hounshell, Elizabethton; two granddaughters, Nicole Moore and husband John, Elizabethton, and Kara Flinn-Colbaugh of California; two great-granddaughters, Mallory and Madilyn Moore, both of Elizabethton; and a sister, Opal Street, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will hold a graveside inurnment service at 10:45 a.m. Monday, August 7, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Rev. Doug Hinshaw and Mr. Scott Reynolds officiating. Music will be under the direction of her great-granddaughter, Mallory Moore. The family would like to thank the staff of Pine Ridge Care and Rehab Center, Dr. Vivian Clark and Dr. Paige Furrow for the love and care shown to Wilma during her illness.

HAMPTON - Joyce Johnson James, 82, Hampton, passed away Monday, February 28, 2022 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born in Carter County May 31, 1939 to the late George W. & Libby Benfield Johnson. Joyce was a 1957 graduate of Hampton High School. She loved working in her garden and quilting. She was a Charter member of Braemar Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bobby R. James, January 31, 2000, by a sister, Faye Johnson Potter and Three brothers: Bill Johnson, Walter Johnson and Joe Johnson.
Survivors include her children: Terri James Shipley, Elizabethton, Bobby R. James II and Cathy Selbert and LeAnna James Brummitt and husband Mike all of Hampton. Six Grandchildren: Amber & Adam McElyea, Jordan Lambert & wife Erika, Daniel “Opie” Lambert, Bobby James III, Michaela & Hunter Skalecki,and Kortnee Brummitt. Her Great Grandchildren:Neelynn , ShyAnne, JJ, Brayden, Andrew, Ridge and Lincoln. Several nieces & nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2022 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor David Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow in the D.O. Johnson Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Grandsons and Great Grandsons.
