    Notes:

    Irene H. Conley at the age of 89 went home to be with The LORD Tuesday October 1, 2019 after a lengthy battle with cancer from Johnson City Medical Center with family by her side.

    Mrs. Conley was born April 24, 1930, and was the daughter of Rebecca and Jess Hopson, and a native of Unicoi County. She was a member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN and retired from East Tennessee State University.

    In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband John Conley, four brothers Vestal, Charlie, Buster and Ronnie Hopson, three sisters Mildred Harris, Pansy Garland, and Mary Katherine Foster.

    Those left to cherish her memories are two sons, Gregory Allan and wife Janet Renfro along with Jeffrey Wallace Renfro. Three grandsons, Grant Renfro of Greeneville, South Carolina; Alex Renfro and wife Dr. Laura Renfro of Abingdon, VA; Jonathan Renfro and wife Megan of Elizabethton, TN along with two great grandchildren Bracken, and Addison Renfro. One granddaughter Christy Renfro Burrough and husband Steve of Elizabethton, TN. One stepdaughter Desiree Conley Peterson, and husband Ben of Johnson City, TN. She is survived by one sister Martha Jo Long of Indianapolis, Indiana, and one brother, Ted Hopson of Unicoi County, Tennessee. Also, a very Special "Bodyguard" to hear her call Carol R. Fargason "the daughter she never had, but the friend she always wanted". A special niece Judy Hoilman of Telford, TN.

    The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Krishnan, Jill Rawles, and the staff of Ballad Health Cancer Care as well as the wonderful nurses of the 6200 wing at Johnson City Medical Center and Hospice for the beautiful care given to Irene during her illness.

    Funeral services for Irene H. Conley will be conducted in the Sunset Room of Tetrick Funeral Services of Johnson City on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Curtis Hurt officiating.

    The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday after 5:00 P.M. until the hour of service at 7:00 P.M.

    A committal service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. David Foster officiating.

    Notes:

    Mary Katherine Hopson Foster, 81, of Johnson City, left this world for eternal heavenly rest on May 24, 2015. She passed after a lengthy battle with cancer at her residence.
    She was born in Unicoi to the late Jesse and Rebecca Luttrell Hopson.
    In addition to her parents, her husband Robert Foster in 2002; four brothers, Vestal, Charlie, Jess, Jr. and Ronnie Hopson; two sisters, Mildred Harris and Pansy Garland preceded her in death.
    Mary devoted a large part of her adult life to caring for her elderly mother until her death in 1977.
    She was a former member of the Unicoi Free Will Baptist Church and attended Unicoi High School, but had lived in Johnson City since 1975.
    Mary was a quiet person who enjoyed spending time with her family.
    Left to cherish her memory include; one son, Robert Lynn and wife Janice of Johnson City; two sisters, Irene Conley of Johnson City and Martha Jo Long of Indianapolis, Indiana; a brother, Ted Hopson of Unicoi; two grandchildren, Noah and Chris; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Judy Hoilman.
    A graveside service is scheduled for Monday, June 1, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. in the Mountain Home National Cemetery, under the direction of Rev. Dallas Gregg.

    ERWIN - Doug Hopson, age 72, Erwin, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus on Saturday morning, June 18, 2022, while he was surrounded by his loving family. He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and son of the late Vestal C. and Edith McInturff Hopson.

    Doug was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was a member of Unicoi United Methodist Church. Doug was an active member of the Unicoi Ruritan Club. He retired from the banking industry after many years of service. Doug worked as a Mortgage Banker for different financial institutions which included First Tennessee Bank.

    Doug worked with the Town of Unicoi for sixteen years as Alderman and Vice Mayor. He was dedicated to civic service and to the residents of the Town of Unicoi. Doug was honored to have the Buffalo Pavilion in Unicoi named after him. He was an active member of the First Tennessee Human Resource Agency where he also served on the board.

    Doug was a very active participant with the Unicoi County Relay for Life, and he was asked to speak at some of their events. He encouraged many cancer patients and helped assist them in many ways. Doug’s positive attitude and smile was always present regardless of how he was feeling.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rebecca Marie Hopson; mother-in-law, Mary Engle; sisters-in-law: Cindy Hopson and Judy Hopson.

    Doug leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of eighteen years, Cynthia Engle Hopson; five children: Christy Nichole Hopson, Hampton, Brandon Douglas Hopson (Fidah), Chicago, IL, Alexis Marie Rogers (Anthony), Boones Creek, Holly Nichole Reed (Phillip), Johnson City, Jessica Danielle Luttrell (Jon), Jonesborough; six brothers: James A. Hopson, Unicoi, Wayne Hopson (Barbara), Jonesborough, Doyle Hopson (Shannon), Unicoi, Don Hopson (Glenda), Aynor, SC, Bobby Hopson, Gary Hopson (Shari), all of Unicoi; one sister, Betty Hawkins (Larry), Unicoi; grandchildren: Sydnie Reynolds, Lilly Hopson, Owen Hopson, Ayden Hopson, Madison Lung, Ryker Holt, Hayden Rogers, Harper Rogers, Cash Reed, Skye Reed, Knox Reed, Layla Turner and Lenox Luttrell; numerous nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

    Doug’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Unicoi United Methodist Church New Life Center. Pastor Steve Rice will deliver the message and Dr. Mike Pinner will assist at the 7:00 p.m. celebration of life service. Committal will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the Roselawn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Chris Hopson, Jamie Hopson, Shawn Hawkins, Alan Hawkins, Jason Hopson, Charles Hopson, Owen Hopson and Connor McIntosh. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug’s brothers as well as the “Three J’s”: Johnny Lynch, Johnny Grindstaff and Johnny Logan.
