Pauline Benfield Greer, 97, passed away in the early morning hours on Friday, July 3, 2015, at her home in Elizabethton, Tenn. She was born on April 4, 1918 in Ingalls, N.C. Her parents were Elda Ollis Benfield and Floyd Preston Benfield. She was one of 10 children and is survived by one brother, Berlin Benfield. Mrs. Greer completed the 8th grade and went on to take some Business College courses at the school in Elizabethton. She worked at several jobs in her lifetime, but worked for 42 years at the North American Rayon plant, holding various jobs in multiple departments. She retired in 1984 and concentrated on her grandchildren, gardens and quilting. She loved flowers and quilting; in her lifetime, she completed over 500 quilts. Survivors include four children, Ashley, Sharon, Laura and Scott Jr. Eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren also survive. A Celebration of Life Service for Pauline Benfield Greer was conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 5, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. The graveside service was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 6, in the Green Valley Baptist Church Cemetery, Spruce Pine, N.C. Active pallbearers were Jonathan, Scotty, Jeremy, Buzz, Robert and Colin. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the staff at Amedisys Hospice for the excellent care and assistance given to Mrs. Greer in these last few years.

MARIETTA, Ga. — Belvin "Ben" Benfield passed away on July 5, 2018 after a short illness. He grew up in the hills of East Tennessee and was the ninth of ten children. He was a cum laude graduate of East Tennessee State University and received his Master of Science in Radio-Television from Syracuse University. After successful careers in Broadcasting and the Construction Industry, he became a Certified Meeting and Hospitality professional (CMP) and he and his wife owned The Benfield Group, a corporate and independent meeting consulting firm.
Ben's broadcasting awards include the Associated Press Award for News Reporting – "Fulton Federal Fire," and for Human Interest Television Feature – "Old Man and His Mountain," WSB Television; East Tennessee State University Honor Award, producer and host for "Art and Music" Television Series, WJHL Television; writer-producer on award winning ABC-TV series, "File Seven," owned and presented by Johns Hopkins University. He was instructor-Management Practices, Radio-Television Department, Ithaca College where he developed and implemented a student staffed one hour nightly television newscast, which won both Associated Press and United Press awards.
He was White House Liaison to Johns Hopkins University for coordination of news coverage, security procedures and facilities utilization during the bilateral proclamation of a major foreign policy position by President Eisenhower and British Prime Minister MacMillan – Baltimore 1958.
Ben served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was liaison officer from the United States Armed Forces Radio Services to the Japanese Government's National Broadcasting Service (NHK) for the movement of AFRS facilities to US Military Bases – Japan 1953.
He was National Chief for the Y-Indian Guide Programs during the early seventies; co-authored "Y-TRAILBLAZERS" program manual for National YMCA parent-child club program; co-planned, organized and led 1,000 person Train Excursion and Encampment to Fort Benning, Ga.
His community involvement included membership in: Meeting Professionals International, Atlanta Kiwanis Club, Atlanta Executives Association (past president), United Way Speakers Bureau, Chi Psi Fraternity, Northside United Methodist Church, Northside YMCA Board, Jaycees and Toastmasters Club.
He was predeceased by his father, Floyd Preston Benfield, and mother, Elda Laura Ollis Benfield, and by four brothers and five sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jan, of 30 years; two sons, Berlin (Vera) Benfield and George (Ann) Benfield; four grandchildren, Rebecca and Allison Benfield of Grapevine, Texas, Emery and Baker Benfield of Knoxville, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Shepherd Center, 2020 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA 30309.
A service celebrating Ben's life with his friends and family will be held Wednesday, July 11, at 2 p.m. at Northside United Methodist Church, 2799 Northside Drive, NW, Atlanta, GA 30305.

Elizabethton- Leonard “Keith” Benfield, 71, went to be with the Lord, October 16, 2022, after a long courageous fight with cancer and heart disease.
He was a retired 50-year member of Boilermaker’s Local #83 of Kansas City, Kansas.
Keith loved talking and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his fur babies, Elijah and Ollie, riding his motorcycle, camping, talking to friends, and sitting on the porch watching the wildlife and the rolling river.
Keith was a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church, and also attended Lynn Valley Baptist Church when his health permitted.
Survivors include: his wife, Barbara; his children, Holly Channon (Michael) of Moline, Illinois, Jennifer Carr (Steven) of Elizabethton, TN, Jacob Benfield of Port Neches, Texas, and Bob Norris (Shae) of Elizabethton, TN; his mother, Betty; his brothers, Gregory (Robin) and Robert (Mary); his grandchildren, Zachary, Avarie, Emily, Justin, Jesse, Madison, Bailey; and his great-grandchildren, Jazzy, Skylar, A.J. and Peyton; his Aunt Pidge; and several cousins, nephews, nieces and special friends, George Baldwin and Kenneth Loveless also survive.
Keith was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Benfield; two infant daughters; his grandparents, Jenny and Gordon Peters, Floyd P. and Elda Ollis Benfield.
Our family wishes to thank Dr. Jamal Maatouk and the staff of the Kingsport Cancer Center, Dr. Siv, Dr. Rita Plemmons, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, Amedysis Health Care, Amedysis Hospice, and all the nurses, CNAs, and techs that have walked the walk with Keith. We are so thankful for our many friends and neighbors who have been there for us.

Jessie James Jones Jr., 75, of Powdermill Creek Road, Newland, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at the Brian Center in Spruce Pine, NC surrounded by his family.

He was born September 11, 1946 in Avery County, NC a son of the late Jessie James Jones and Amelia Franklin Jones.

Jessie, known as Junior/June to family and friends, was a Vietnam Veteran who served his country proudly from 1969-1971. In younger years he was known to all his buddies as the “Gray Rooster.” He was a hard working outdoorsman. He loved working with cattle, farming, gardening and fishing.

In addition to his father Jessie and mother Amelia, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Jones, and sister, Rebecca Jones Careccia.

Jessie leaves behind to cherish his memory, sons, Corey Jones of Newland, NC, Brian Jones of Kingsport, TN, Brandon Jones and wife, Toni, of Morganton, NC; grandsons; Tyler Jones of Morganton, NC; Tristan Jones of Kingsport, TN; and Casey Jones of Newland, NC. He is survived by siblings, Jerry Jones and wife, Carolyn, of Newland; Linda Horney and husband, Charles, of Marion, NC, Brenda Jones and husband, DJ, of Newland, Allen Jones and wife, Lucy, of Newland, NC, Peggy Massey of Newland, NC;, Ricky Jones and wife, Valerie, of Morganton, NC, Connie Poteat and husband, Rick, of Morganton, NC, Locinda Adams of Marion, NC, Kim Calhoun and husband, Robert, of Newland, NC. His loving sister-in-law, Virginia “Jenny” Jones of Newland, NC. He also leaves numerous loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 11, 2022 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. Services for Jesse will be Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 3 p.m. with Pastor Josh Dellinger officiating. A graveside service will follow at the Jones Cemetery.
