    Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth Arnold, 83, Church Street, Mountain City, died Saturday, 3:00 a.m., at the residence of her son, Mr. Coolidge Arnold, after a lengthy illness. She was a native of Watauga County, N.C., but had made her home in Johnson County the greater part of her life. She was the widow of Mr. Wiley Arnold and the daughter of the late John and Nancy Jones Curry. She was a member of the Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church.
    Survivors include five sons, Walter Arnold, Hampton, Joe I. Arnold, Neva, John Arnold, St. Louis, Mo., and Coolidge Arnold, Mountain City; three daughters, Mrs. Nan Hartman, Richmond, Va., and Mrs. Beulah Mink and Mrs. Rosalee Dunn, both of Neva; one sister, Mrs. Mary Parsons, Baltimore, Md.; 32 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were conducted Monday, 2:00 p.m. from the Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church, with the Rev. H.C. Price and Rev. D.C. Byrd officiating. Burial was in the Arnold Cemetery.
    Pall-bearers[sic] were Darrell Gilbert, Bud Hartman, Roy Mink, Paul Arnold, Lester Arnold, Junior Arnold, Roger Arnold, Bob Arnold, and Clifton Dunn.
    Flower-bearers[sic] were ladies of the church and neighbors.
    Lewis Gentry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

    CLAUDE C. ARNOLD
    Claude C. Arnold, age 35, a Johnson county native and a veteran of World War II, died Saturday night, Dec. 4, in Creston, N.C., of what Carolina officers termed a self-inflicted wound.
    C. S. Neal, clerk of the Superior Court in Jefferson, N.C., quoted the Ashe county coroner as saying that Arnold died as the result of a self-inflicted rifle wound.
    He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
    Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Lizzie Arnold, Neva; one son, Lester Arnold, Neva; six brothers, William Coolidge, and David Arnold of Baltimore, Md., Walter Arnold of Hampton, Joe Arnold of Neva, and John Arnold of St. Louis, Mo.; three sisters, Mrs. Nannie Hartman of Richmond, Va., Mrs. Beulah Mink and Mrs. Rosalie Dunn of Neva.
    Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Johnson Chapel, with Rev. Earl Campbell and Rev. John Vannoy officiating. Burial was in Arnold Cemetery. Hill Funeral Home in charge.

    HAMPTON — Bessie Marie Arnold Roark, 75, Hampton, went to be with her Lord, Saturday April 19, 2008, at her residence.

    She was a Johnson County native but had lived most of her life in Carter County. She was a retired employee of Texas Instruments and had worked for thirty years at Browns Super Market. She loved to work in her flowers and her garden. She was a member of the Union Baptist Church, but attended the Hampton Church of God.

    Mrs. Roark was preceded in death by her father, Walter Raymond Arnold; and her husband, Norman "Sarge" Roark, April 20, 2001.

    Survivors include two daughters & sons-in-law: Teresa Nidiffer and her husband, John Dunlap, Elizabethton, and Tonya and Henry Weaver, Weaverville, North Carolina; Her Mother: Wilma Ward Arnold, Baltimore, Maryland; One Grandson: Josey Walter Weaver; Sister: Geraldine Kemp, Baltimore; A Brother: Bobby Mack Arnold, Hampton; Several Nieces & Nephews & Great Nieces & Nephews; Her special friends: Jane Goodwin Davis, Susan Lamb & Judy Austin.

    A gathering of family, friends and acquaintance to celebrate the memories of Bessie Roark will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel. Memorials May be made in memory of her to the Hampton Church of God. Friends are welcome To come by the residence at their convenience.

    The family would like to express a Special "Thank You' to the Johnson City Medical Center Hospice and her friends and Neighbors who offered their loved and support during her illness.

    Survivors are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Arnold of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Kathy Jane Arnold of the home; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lizzie Arnold of Mountain City; maternal grandfather, Stacy Tester of Shouns, several uncles and aunts.
    Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the home of Duff Arnold, Shouns, with Rev. Ted Robinson and Rev. Grady Stout officiating.
    Burial was in Greene Cemetery.
    Hill Funeral Home in charge.

    Darrell Milton Gilbert, 69, of Mountain City, Tenn., passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at his home. He was born on July 11, 1946, in Johnson County, Tenn., to the late Oris Gilbert and Rosa Lee Arnold Dunn, who passed away November 29, 2014. In addition to his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Francis Gilbert, who passed away on November 18, 2014, and his brother-in-law, Junior Murphy. Darrell was a 1965 graduate of Johnson County High School. He had worked as a truck driver and for Leco Manufacturing and for the Johnson County Highway Dept. Darrell enjoyed gardening, spending time outdoors, going to Cherokee, N.C., four wheeling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his daughters, Tammy McElyea and husband Danny and Jackie Johnson; sisters, Janice Murphy of Mountain City and Billie Jean Main and husband Colis of Trade; grandchildren, Angela Carico, Christopher McElyea, Johnny Johnson, Scotty Johnson and Jason Johnson; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four nieces; and many special friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, at Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Shannon Courtner officiating. The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Richard Mink, Dean Mink, Bob Mink, Larry Mink, Ernest Tester and Cliff Dunn. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Arnold and Jim Moody. The family will receive friends at the home, 620 Arnold Town Road, Mountain City, Tenn.

    Jimmy Dean Ward, age 60, of Lenoir went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at his residence. He was born January 26, 1961 in Mountain City, Tennessee to the late James Willard Ward and Margaret Arnold. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Jeffery Potter.

    Jimmy was a loving and caring family man who lived for his children. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Liberty Baptist Church. Jimmy had a passion for video games and all things Star Trek. He shared this passion with his lifelong best friend, Roger Mitchell of Lenoir. They have shared 38 years of ups and downs and were the true definition of a “ride or die” friend.

    Survivors include his three children, Erin Ward of Hickory, Enya Ward and Jimmy “Dean” Ward, both of Lenoir; step-mother, Jackie Ward of Gamewell; two brothers, Paul “David” Ward and Charles Hamby, both of Lenoir; four sisters, Debbie Dickens and husband Norman, Tammy Griffin and husband Eddie, all of Tennessee, Jeanna Warhurst and husband Troy, and Wendy Whitt, all of Lenoir; and numerous nieces and nephews.
