JOHNSON CITY - Naomi Virginia Woods, 81, Johnson City, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 1, 2019.

Mrs. Woods was born in Red Hill, NC to the late Carl R. and Lizzie Hoilman Hughes.

She was a clerk at the ETSU bookstore for many years and a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Woods was preceded in death by her husband in 1988, Larry D. Woods; and two brothers, Robert and Everett W. Hughes.

Survivors include: one son, Randy Woods; two grandchildren, Laura Ashley Wright and Matthew David Woods; two great grandchildren, Liam and Silas Wright; one sister, Betty Leonard; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Woods and Brenda Honeycutt.

The family of Mrs. Woods will receive friends from 5 PM until 6 PM Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Morris-Baker. The funeral will follow at 6 PM with Pastor Tommy Clark officiating. Pallbearers include: Matthew Woods, Brian Hughes, Curtis Hughes, Andy Wyatt, Ben Hagy, Greg Leonard and Mike Leonard. The committal service will be held Thursday at 11 AM. Family and friends are asked to meet at Monte Vista Memorial Park by 10:50 AM.

Robert "Ronnie" Hughes, 70 of Johnson City, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Johnson City he is the son of the late Carl and Lizzie Hughes. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a brother, Everett Hughes.

Ronnie graduated from Happy Valley High School before graduating from Steed College with a degree in business. He proudly served his country in the US Navy and worked with Warner-Lambert, retiring in 1994. Ronnie was a member of Fairview Baptist church and enjoyed restoring old cars, camping and sports. Ronnie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother and will be missed by many.

Those left to cherish Ronnie's memory include: wife of 45 years, Cathy; sons, Bryan Hughes (Jill) and Curtis Hughes (Carolee); grandchildren, Landry and Laynee Kate Hughes; siblings, Virginia Woods and Betty Leonard; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Veterans Administration Staff.

A Committal service and interment will take place at Washington County Memory Gardens, Johnson City on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Gary Roe officiating and military honors. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 PM. Pallbearers will be Andy Savage, Joey Savage, Ethan Savage, Randy Woods, Matthew Woods, Gary Chapman, Lee Wamsley, and Allen Torbett.

Juanita Yelton Shuffler, a native of Mitchell County, born in Bakersville, North Carolina on April 22nd, 1930 to the late Bristoe & Ethel Yelton, went to be with her Lord on March 6th, 2018.

Juanita was a member of the Buladean Presbyterian Church and a member of the Bakersville Order of the Eastern Star (OES) for over 50 years. She loved gardening, birds and her life as a homemaker. Her gift for growing beautiful plants and flowers brought much joy to all.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, C.L. Shuffler; parents, brothers; George and James Yelton. Juanita was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Survivors include: her four children, Charles Ronnie Shuffler (Randy), Charlene Shuffler, Glenda Shuffler-Lester (Ron) and Brian Shuffler; three grandchildren, Mollie Lemonds (Tripp), Adam Shuffler and Brandon Shuffler; two great grandchildren, Bristoe and Case; three sisters, Marie Morgan, Edith Street, Shelby Street and many nephews and nieces. She will always be remembered as a kind, caring, giving person, one who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and will be missed by all.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm, Friday, March 9th, 2018, at Henline-Hughes Funeral Home, Bakersville, NC. A celebration of Juanita's life will be conducted at 1pm Saturday, March 10th, 2018 in the Buladean Presbyterian Church. Pastor Wanda Woodby will officiate the celebration. Graveside services will be held at Roselawn Memory Gardens, 3033 S. Roan St. Johnson City, TN following the celebration.

UNICOI - Edith Mae Street, age 80, of Foxhounds Hills Circle, Unicoi, TN went home to be with the Lord August 5, 2018.

She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and a daughter of the late Bristoe and Ethel Stanley Yelton. She was previously employed by Szolds and Bergners Department Stores in Illinois. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Erwin, TN.

Survivors include: one daughter; Debbie Kay Wilson, of Decatur, Illinois, one son; Ted J. Street (Pamela), of Unicoi, TN, two sisters; Marie Morgan and Shelby Jean Street, both of Bakersville, NC, four grandchildren; Courtney Johnson, Brittnay Johnson, Jay Johnson, and Meagan Street Bower, and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by: her husband; Ted Street, two brothers; George and James Yelton, and one sister; Juanita Shuffler.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 12, 2018 at 4:00PM in Calvary Baptist Church (Erwin TN), with David Crutchfield officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

JONESBOROUGH - Edward Lee Gouge, age 84, of Jonesborough, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at the Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness.

Edward was born on June 12, 1938, in Bakersville, North Carolina, to the late Kenneth and Delthia Yelton Gouge.

He retired from TPI Corp in Gray, Tennessee, as head of maintenance. In his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his neighbors and family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife in 1999, Dorothy Louise Lowe Gouge; and brother, Marvin Gouge.

Left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Teresa (Mike) Miller of Jefferson, Georgia and Lori (Jamie) Fulmer of Chattanooga, Tennessee; grandchildren, April Payne of Chuckey, Tennessee, Amber Ferguson of Georgia, and Cody Fulmer and Nick Fulmer of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Payne and Henry Fulmer; and sisters, Bobbie McKinney, Helen Broyles, and Betty Vancannon, all of Johnson City.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. There will be a funeral immediately following the visitation, at 12:00 pm, under the direction of Pastor Chuck Babb. Burial will commence privately at Monte Vista Memorial Park.
