    Wanda Hildred "Bee" Grindstaff Peters, 95, of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home.
    She was born in Carter County on April 11, 1922 to the late Elbert C. and Golda Hardin Grindstaff. She lived most of her life in Carter County and attended Unaka High School.
    Wanda was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Elizabethton and also attended Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church and Milligan Free Will Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She loved to read her Bible and had read it through many, many times.
    Wanda and her husband operated a local grocery store in the Hunter Community of Stoney Creek for several years. Her hobbies included cross-stitching, embroidering, quilting and playing the piano.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray D. Peters, in 1986; a brother, Sherman A. Grindstaff; two sisters, Rena Vaught and Norma Carrier; three infant sisters; and a son-in-law, Rob Sanders.
    She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Sanders and Gail Bishop and husband Earl; three grandsons, Ed Keesee, Edward Elliott and Benjamin Bishop; two granddaughters, Beth Bennett and husband Billy, and Kimberly Street and husband Brad; one brother, Anthony Grindstaff and wife Betty; one sister, Rita "Mattie" Payne and husband Nat; six great-grandchildren, Casey Street, Savannah Golson, Sarah Elliott, Emma Elliott, Katie Keesee and Luke Keesee; one great-great-granddaughter, River Golson; two step-granddaughters, Robin Lyons and Marnie Childress; four step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    A graveside service to honor the life of Wanda Peters will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Jerry Stout officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Bishop, Nat Payne, Sherrell Perry and Warren Widmyer. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and to Dr. Jonathan Bremer for the loving care you provided our loved one during her stay at Ivy Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice or to the Second Harvest Food Bank, Good Samaritan Ministries or St. Jude Children's Hospital.

    Norma M. Carrier, age 91, celebrated a glorious union with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, December 13, 2014, after a brief illness, at her residence in Kingsport.
    Norma was born in Carter County, TN, on November 12, 1923, to the late Elbert C. and Golda Hardin Grindstaff. She lived most of her life in Carter County, where she grew up, attended Unaka High School, and married and raised her family. She moved to Kingsport, TN, in 2010.
    She attended Stoney Creek Baptist Church during her younger years. She became a member of Watauga Valley Freewill Baptist Church after her marriage in 1940. She served her church well by singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School classes and home Bible studies. She was an exceptional student of the Bible and a gifted teacher of the Word of God.
    She was employed at Raytheon, Bristol, for several years. She was a talented seamstress and was also an excellent cook.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Gray M. Carrier, on September 28, 2012; a daughter, Gwen Widmyer; a brother, Sherman A. Grindstaff; a sister, Rena Vaught; three infant sisters; and a son-in-law, Bill Hammond.
    Survivors include one daughter, Janice Hammond; two grandsons, Brad Hammond and wife, Gloria, and Bart Hammond and wife, Julianne; two granddaughters, Amber Garland and husband, James, and Ginger Shifflett and husband, Paul; two sisters, Wanda Peters, and Mattie Payne and husband, Nat; one brother, Anthony Grindstaff and wife, Betty; ten great-grandchildren, and a son-in-law, Warren Widmyer. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    A service to honor the life of Norma M. Carrier will be conducted at 12 Noon on Wednesday, December 17th, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Reverend Bill Greer, Reverend Calvin Jett and Dr. James Richardson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Joy Dean Babb, Diana Blevins, Cathy Timbs and Leatha Grindstaff, organist.
    The family will receive friends in the chapel from 11:00 AM-12 Noon on Wednesday, prior to the funeral service.
    The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service in Wilson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Sherrill Carrier, Raymond Williams, Jerry "Skip" Campbell, Keith Williams, Mac Collins and Larry Grindstaff. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Pierce, Nat Payne, Earl Bishop, Sherrell Perry, John Hardin, Wayne Dean, Roger Babb, Rick Collins, Leonard Lewis, Larry Peters, Jimmy Peters, Keith Garland, Frank Singleton and Donnie Richardson.
    The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff of Amedisys Hospice and to Beth, Donna and Tonya for their care to Norma during her time of need. Special thanks to Frances and Gerald Pigg for every act of kindness shown us. We also thank the many dear ones for their prayers. We are, most of all, grateful to God for His provision of a Savior and the promise of eternal life to all who accept His gift.

    ELIZABETHTON - Rita Grindstaff "Mattie" Payne, 87, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023 in the Hermitage Health Center. She was born February 11, 1936, in Carter County to the late Elbert Clinton and Golda Mae Hardin Grindstaff. Mattie was a 1954 Graduate of Unaka High School. She was a homemaker. She was an extremely good Pianist and Organist, having played in church for several years. She was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church of Elizabethton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

    Survivors include her husband: Nathaniel C. Payne; one brother and sister-in-law: Henry Anthony & Betty Grindstaff of Bristol, Tenn; also, several special nieces and nephews.

    Mattie will be buried in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Everything will be private.
