    Matilda Opal Ledford, 87, 1235 Hillside Drive, Elizabethton, beloved by her family and friends, went home to be with her Lord, on Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Ledford was born in Carter County on August 6, 1919 and was the daughter of the late Dan and Mary Robinson Cole. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Wade Ledford on August 13, 1970.

    Mrs. Ledford was a former employee of Bemberg Corporation, was a homemaker and a wonderful mother. She loved to quilt, can and take care of her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith.

    Mrs. Ledford is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Rose B. Ledford of the home; Mary Lee and Garfield Williams, Elizabethton; Sue Combs, Roan Mountain, TN; Ruth and Mack Elliott, Elizabethton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wade and Shirley Ledford, Elizabethton; Dayton and Brenda Ledford, Spindale, NC; three sisters, four brothers, ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and a very special friend, Mrs. Virgie Hardin, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    The Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Ledford will be conducted at 7:30 PM, Thursday, February 22, 2007 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Ronnie Edwards officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Howard Holsclaw, Jr. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 23, 2007 in the Cole Cemetery, Lacy Hollow.

    Notes:

    Miss Rosie Beatrice Ledford, 75, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 28, 2019, from Signature Healthcare Center of Elizabethton. Rosie was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Homer Wade Ledford and Opal Cole Ledford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dayton Douglas Ledford and Wilford Wade Ledford, and a brother-in-law, Mack Elliott.
    Rosie graduated from ETSU and obtained her Master's Degree in Virginia. She retired as an educator, having taught school in Virginia, Kentucky and Florida. She was voted best language arts teacher when she taught in the Virginia School System. She was also a certified meteorologist.
    Rosie loved children and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed gardening, playing with children, especially her nieces and nephews, painting and cooking. Rosie also loved animals and liked to listen to folk music and making soap.
    Those left to cherish her memory include three sisters, Mary Lee Williams and husband Garfield Williams of Elizabethton, Ellen Sue Combs of Roan Mountain and Helen Ruth Elliott of Elizabethton, and two sisters-in-law, Brenda Kay Ledford of Rutherfordton, N.C., and Shirley Ann Ledford of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
    A service to celebrate the life of Miss Rosie Beatrice Ledford will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 2, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Cole Cemetery, Lacy Hollow Road, Elizabethton, Tenn. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to especially thank the staff and management of Signature Healthcare of Elizabethton for the loving care given to Miss Ledford during her illness.
