    MRS. LULA GRINDSTAFF
    Mrs. Lula Lenis Grindstaff died last evening at 9:45 o'clock at her home on route 2.
    Mrs. Grindstaff came to the community from Johnson County 36 years ago. She was a member of the Christian Baptist Church of Doeville.
    Survivors are her husband, Zeb Grindstaff; two daughters, Mrs. Ida Carriager of Johnson City, Mrs. Lily Mays of Elizabethton; two sons, Manuel of Bristol and Wiley of Elizabethton; two brothers, James and Oscar Blackburn of Johnson City.
    Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Ed May of Hunter. The Rev. Loyd Greer will be in charge. Burial will be in the Combs Cemetery.
    The body will be removed to the home of Mrs. John Ed May in Hunter at four o'clock this afternoon.
    Pallbearers will be D. E. Lyon, E. J. Clemons, Obie Walsh, Milt Williams, Estin Bowers and Alfred Hardin.
    Funeral services are under the direction of the Tetrick Funeral Home.

    Mr. Blackburn was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County.

    He was a son of the late Richard Oscar and Eva Robinson Blackburn and was also preceded in death by his wife, Callie Lewis Blackburn; one daughter, Melinda Barlow; and several siblings.

    Mr. Blackburn was a US Marine Corps veteran.

    He was a retired owner of a Gulf Service Station.

    Mr. Blackburn was a Presbyterian, and a member of Gideon's International.

    He was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Dawn of Hope and for many years volunteered at the VA Medical Center assisting veterans to worship service every Sunday.

    Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Bond and Susan Barrow and her husband, David; grandchildren, Karen Taufer, Lynn Bond, Luke Barlow, Philip Barrow, Callie Barrow, Olivia Barrow, Peter Barrow, James Barrow and Aaron Barrow; six great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and special friends.

    The family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Friday, March 1, 2013, at Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services.

    Military Honors Graveside Services will follow at 2:30 PM Friday at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN.

    Betty Ann Carriger Edwards, 77, of Johnson City, died Friday, August 24, 2012, at the Four Oaks Health Care Center in Jonesborough.

    She was a native of Carter County, daughter of the late David King Carriger and Ida Grindstaff Carriger. Betty was a retired manager of the Motherhood Maternity Store. She was a member of the Snow Memorial Baptist Church and had taught Sunday School for many years.

    Betty loved gardening, sewing and anything that included her grandchildren and their activities.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Edwards Jr.; a daughter, Debbie Hammett; three brothers, Norman, Cliff and Bill Carriger; three sisters, Georgie Kinley, Ina Murr and Evelyn Waycaster.

    Survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law, Karen E. and Jon Harvey, of Johnson City; five grandchildren and a granddaughter-in-law, Emily Harvey, of Denver, Colorado, Allie Harvey, Kelly Harvey and Tatum Harvey, all of Johnson City, Matthew and Yoon Loutzenhiser, of South Korea; a sister, Galilee Osborne, of Fairfax, Virginia.

    A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, August 26, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. in the North Chapel of the Morris-Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Rev. Mike Pelham. Special music will be provided by The Harveys.

    The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m.

    A committal service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

    Evelyn R. Waycaster, 71, 345 Lynn Road, Johnson City, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010, at her residence with her loving family by her side.

    She was a lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a daughter of the late David and Ida Grindstaff Carriger. Mrs. Waycaster was retired from Johnson City Medical Center and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Johnson City, where she had been the church pianist since 1961. She loved to sing and listen to gospel music and enjoyed her family trips to Myrtle Beach each year.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford, Norman and Billy Joe Carriger; a sister, Ina Murr; and a son-in-law, Roger Davis.

    Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Howard S. Waycaster; three daughters, Teresa Robbin Clark, Sandra Gail Davis and Donna Kathryn Corbett and her husband, Robert, all of Johnson City; three sisters, Gallie Bailey, Washington, DC, Georgia Kinley and Betty Edwards, both of Jonesborough; two grandsons, Chad Johnson, Dallas, TX, and Steven Bates, Johnson City; two granddaughters, Shelly Davis and Ashley Johnson, Johnson City; six great-grandchildren, Julie, Jackson, Peyton and Levi Carver, Katie and Lindsey Johnson; several nieces and nephews.

    The funeral service for Mrs. Waycaster will be conducted at 7:00 PM Saturday, February 20, 2010, from the Calvary Baptist Church, Hart Avenue, Johnson City, with Pastor James Chatman officiating. Music will be provided by her church family.

    The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 PM until service time.

    Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, February 21, 2010, from the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Robert Corbett, Steven Bates, Mike Davison, Roger Waycaster, Kenny Cole and Larry Glaspie. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Flowers, Lester Saylor and all of the men at Calvary Baptist Church. Everyone attending is asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 PM.

    1SG John Blackburn Lilly, USA, RET, 69 of Johnson City TN, and Orlando FL passed gently at Mission Hospital in Ashville NC. on Tuesday evening August 9, 2016. John was born on Rural Route # 5 Carter County TN in a log cabin built by his Dad. John left his family at age 17 to join the Army starting his military career walking guard duty on the Panama Canal. After serving three tours in Viet Nam John retired on the 27th day of March 1985 from Fort Knox, KY. He loved the military and stayed involved through his lifetime membership in VFW Post 2108 in Johnson City, TN, and the American Legion Post #17 in New Smyrna Beach FL. He also enjoyed his membership in the Loyal Order of Moose in New Smyrna Beach.

    John loved visiting the National Parks especially the ones in the West, never said no to a cruise be it to Mexico, the Panama Canal or Alaska, and was an avid Miami Dolphin fan.

    John was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Juanita Blackburn Lilly, a sister Loretta Connell and three brothers Edward, Tab, and Leroy. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Shirley l. Lilly, daughters Marcia Wise and husband Mike, grandchildren Michael, Tiffany and Travis of New Smyrna Beach, FL daughter Erica Lilly and grandchildren Dominick, Allana, and Nevaeh of Rolla Missouri, sons Kevin Shawn Lilly also of New Smyrna Beach and John B. Lilly, II and wife Rachel, grandchildren Connor and Nolan of Lake City, FL, sister Margaret Emmons and husband Edward of Port Orange, FL and four brothers Dean Lilly and wife Bonnie, Michael and wife Pearl, and Dewey all of Port Orange, FL, William and wife Belen of Middlburgh, FL Known as "PaPa John". He was loved for 30 years by Shirley's children are Tammy Lance and granddaughter Jesyka, Judy Pourtadayoun and granddaughters Sarah Schellers and husband Mike, great grandchildren Yasmine and Aiden, granddaughter Julia Patenaude and husband Jacob, great grandchildren Berlyn, Olive and Hazel, granddaughters Sohayla and Simine Pourtadayoun, daughter Shirley Marie Peet and granddaughter Heaven, great grandson Rylan, son Jody D. Baker.

    The family of John Lilly will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday August 21,2016 at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home in New Smyrna Beach FL. Services will be held at the Funeral Home Monday August 22,2016 at 11:00 AM. A committal service with full Military Honors will follow at Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims.
