John H. Phipps, 75, of Milligan College, died at his home last Thursday after a brief illness.
Funeral Services were conducted at the Watauga Methodist Church Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jay B. Osborne and Dr. E. H. Yankee officiating. Burial was the Caldwell Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Clyde Be__field[illegible], Wade Bowling, Dana Campbell, Charles Whitson, Walter Gouge, W. T. Forges, Gene Butler, and Guy Babb.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Amanda Phipps; three sons, Johnny Phipps and Steve Phipps of Johnson City, and Coy Phipps of Milligan; three daughters, Mrs. Fred Sammons and Mrs. Selmer Garland of Johnson City and Miss Mary Phipps of Milligan; two grandchildren, Charles and Ruby Phipps; two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Miller of Johnson City and Mrs. Mollie Taylor of Stony Creek; and a brother, Logan Phipps of Stony Creek.

Mrs. Sarah Jane Elliott, age 62, a well known resident of Elizabethton, died at her home 227 N. Main street Sunday morning at 4:00 o'clock after a short illness.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Calvary Baptist church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. George Westmoreland and Rev. James Boyd in charge. Interment will

Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Jane Elliott, age 62, who died Sunday morning, were held this afternoon at 2:30. Burial was made in the Caldwell Springs cemetery.
Survivors are her husband, J. T. Elliott; eight sons, Arthur, James, Ike, Roscoe and J. T. Elliott, Jr., all of Elizabethton, Dan, Clarence and Floyd Elliott of Binghampton, N. Nellie Myrtle Phipps Heaton, age 95, of Johnson City, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Thursday, April 21, 2005 at Johnson City Medical Center. Myrtle was born May 19, 1909, in Johnson County, Tennessee and until just recently was able to recount a lot of stories of her life for the last 96 years. Myrtle was the daughter of the late John Hamilton Phipps who preceded her in death in 1947 and the late Amanda Eliza Wilkins Phipps who preceded her in death in 1972. She was the eldest of eight children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three husbands, Luther ?Luke? Elliott, Fred Sammons and Clint Heaton, three brothers, Steve Phipps, Johnny Phipps and Peter Phipps and one sister Leticia Phipps. A nine-year-old son, Ray Elliott, also preceded Myrtle in death in 1940. Surviving Mrs. Heaton is one daughter, Mary Grace Collins, one brother, Coy Phipps, two sisters, Lexie Phipps Garland and Mary Phipps Byrd and her husband, Rev. D. C. Byrd, all of Johnson City, several nieces and nephews and a special niece, Judy Garland Sluder. A celebration of Myrtle?s life will be held on Sunday, April 24, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Interment will follow services at Monte Vista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.

Lexie Phipps Garland, age 89, of Johnson City, died Friday, April 4, 2008. Lexie was born Friday, January 24, 1919 in Johnson County, TN, having lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was a member of Keystone Freewill Baptist Church where she was a former deacon?s wife and Sunday school teacher. She was formerly employed at Bemberg, Elizabethton, TN. Lexie was the daughter of the late John Hamilton Phipps, who preceded her in death in 1947, and the late Amanda Eliza Wilkins Phipps, who preceded her in death in 1972. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Selmar Garland in 1983, three brothers, Steve Phipps, Johnny Phipps and Peter Phipps, and two sisters, Leticia Phipps and Myrtle Phipps Heaton. Survivors include two sons and one daughter, eldest child, James Thomas Garland of Knoxville; twins, Ronald David Garland of Knoxville and Judy Ann Garland Sluder & husband David Sluder of Elizabethton. Also surviving are one brother, Coy Phipps and one sister, Mary Phipps Byrd and husband Rev. D.C. Byrd, all of Johnson City; one sister-in-law, Lena Phipps of Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special ?Thank You? to the entire staff of NHC Nursing Home, Johnson City for their loving care and support. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Monte Vista Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Greer officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Sunday, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Mary Byrd, Johnson City, died June 29, 2012, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home.
She was the daughter of the late Johnny and Amanda Wilkins Phipps. She was born in Johnson County, but she lived her whole life in Carter County.
She was a homemaker. She attended College Park Free Will Baptist Church until she wasn?t able to attend due to health.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. D.C. Byrd; two daughters: Bernice Moore and Sharon Street; three brothers: Johnnie, Steve and Peter Phipps; three sisters: Lutishia Phipps, Myrtle Heaton and Lexie Garland.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Darrell and Cinda Byrd; two sons-in-law, Fred Moore and Richard Street; four granddaughters and their husbands, Kristi and Kevin Colbaugh, Kara and Josh McGee, Dawn and Rev. Nathan Jennings, Mandy and Wes Greer; eight great grandchildren, Nick, Tyler, Kaylee, Ashlee, Abby, Shay, Riley and Elisha; one brother, Coy Phipps; sister-in-laws, Lena Phipps, Georgia King and Ida Hanuvoski; and one brother-in-law, D.H. Byrd and his wife, Betty; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 30, 2012, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Morris-Baker Funeral Home with services immediately following at 8:00 p.m. with Rev Nathan Jennings and Rev. Ray Colbaugh officiating. Music will be provided by Wes and Mandy Greer, Megan Harsh and New Liberty Quartet.

Burial will be held at Monte Vista Memorial Park, Sunday, July 1, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be: Kevin Colbaugh, Josh McGee, Wes Greer, Nick Colbaugh, Tyler Carrier, Ron Barnett, Ronnie Heaton. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of her and Rev. Byrd?s former Churches and employees of Ivy Hall Nursing Home.

Roscoe Elliott Dies Of Own Hands Coroner Reports
Roscoe Lawrence Elliott, 32, "died by his own hands" at his home on Scenic Drive Sunday afternoon at 6 p.m., according to findings of the coroner's jury report.
Deputy Sheriff Harlan Oakes said that the deceased "had shot himself with a .22 gauge rifle while his wife was away from home at a neighbor's home.
Those on the jury were the Coroner Roy Merritt, O. B. Collins, P. J. Little, J. R. Lyons, Floyd Church, Worley Merritt, Russell Fraley. Deputies who investigated were Oakes and Nidiffer.
The funeral service will be conducted from the Calvary Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. George Westmoreland officiating.

GRAY - Carolyn Ann Wyatt (Phipps), 76, of Gray, TN passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 14, 2023 surrounded by her family. Carolyn was a lifelong resident of Gray. She was the daughter of William and Ethel Phipps. Carolyn was a homemaker and a cook second to none. She loved cooking large meals for her family. She also enjoyed going to yard sales and collecting angels. Carolyn was a second Mother to many children in the family. She attended Fountain of Life Bible Church prior to her illness.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, William and Ethel Phipps; her brothers, Coy Phipps, Millard Phipps, Willard Phipps, Charles William “Bill” Phipps, Carmon Phipps and Allen Phipps; her sisters, Etta Phipps Richardson, Dorothy Phipps Greenburg, Annetta Phipps and Lynda Phipps; and her beloved dog, Bo.

Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Morris Wyatt; son and his wife, Craig and Juanita Wyatt; granddaughter and her husband, Logan Doan (Wyatt) and David; brother, Adrian Phipps; sister, Evelyn Chesser; sister and her husband, Jeannette Honeycutt and Daryl; several nieces and nephews; and her dog, Mattie.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Tetrick Funeral Services Chapel of Johnson City. The funeral service will follow at 8 PM with Dr. Victor Young officiating. The graveside committal will take place at 12 PM on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Craig Wyatt, David Doan, Travis Chesser, Aaron Chesser, Jamie Ryan and Kenith Ryan. Honorary pallbearer will be Russell Bowery.

Our dearly beloved brother, George Allen Elliott, left this earth for his heavenly home on May 4, 2023. George was a kind, loving, honest free spirit who trusted everyone. George leaves behind his loved and faithful companion dog Maggie, who he raised from a puppy; one sister, Emma Elliott Wilson; one son, David Elliott; cousins, nieces and nephews; and good friend, Jim Tolley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac Stacy Elliott and Edith Elliott Hill; brothers, Buddy Roger and Billy Wayne Elliott; and infant son, Daniel Elliott. A short memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 27, at 1 p.m. at Washington County Memory Gardens, 113 Memory Garden Road, Johnson City, Tenn., in the Cross Section.

ROSCOE LAWRENCE ELLIOTT
Roscoe Elliott, 4-weeks-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Elliott, died this morning at 8:30 at their home, 201 Cottage Avenue.
Funeral is to be conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the home, in charge of the Rev. A. D. Hoffman, with burial in the Colbaugh Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alvin Bowman and John Large.
Surviving are the parents, a paternal grandfather, J. T. Elliott, and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Jim Large.
The body was returned to the home at 3 this afternoon.
Roy Hathaway Funeral Home is in charge.

John Wayne "Abe" Elliott, born in 1947, died January 15, 2017. He surrendered to cancer. He did not live to be 100 and not shot by a jealous husband as he joked about.
He is survived by a brother, Lon Elliott; four sisters; three daughters, Alacia, Sherri and Wendy; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his soulmate, Missy and family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances; father, Rosco; step-father, Ed Hyder; and step-brother, Alston Hyder.
Now he can go fishing every day. May he rest in peace.
There will be a celebration of life at the Covered Bridge in Elizabethton on March 5 at 1 p.m.
