Mary "Lucille" Stout, 89, of Morristown, formerly of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System. Mrs. Stout was a member of Morristown Baptist Tabernacle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Stout; parents, Claude and Mable Grindstaff; and brother, John David Grindstaff. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Kate (Mike) Vaughn; son, Bill (Mary) Stout; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Missy) Vaughn, Jonathan (Somer) Stout, Doug (Kayla) Arnold and Tiffany Stout and fiancé, Michael Branner; great-grandchildren, Bailey, Allison, Dylan, Lane, Justin, Braxton, Ethan, Caleb, Sarah, Zoey, Joey, Cameron and Jayden; sister, Doris Jean Wilkins of Georgia; uncle, 106 years old, O'Barren Calhoun of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Robert Reed and Jonathan Stout officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 4, at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton for graveside services.

Mr. Justin Dean "Bud" Grindstaff, of Dogwood Acres in Hampton, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2015 surrounded by his family. He would have been 86 years old on August 10.
Mr. Grindstaff was born in Old Butler, TN and was preceded in death by his parents, Leta Stout Grindstaff and Robert Sherman Grindstaff; sisters, Dora Blackwell, Jewell Blackburn, Ilean Gwyn, and a grandson, Adam James.
Bud was a barber and owned Bud's Barber Shop and Beauty Shop of Hampton, TN, having served the community since 1955. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and served as a barber aboard the ship, U.S.S. Laffey DD724. He was a member of Hampton First Baptist Church.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and fixing "all things broken." He loved having all his family gather each Sunday at PAP's house and he also loved to fly and vacation with his family.
Those left to celebrate his life include his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Mary Lou Odom Grindstaff of the home; his loving son and daughter, Mark Dean Grindstaff and his wife, Shelecia and Lisa Grindstaff James; his precious grandchildren include, Seth Grindstaff and his wife, Lauren, Justin Grindstaff, Caleb James and his only granddaughter, Hannah Grindstaff; and his siblings, Kyle Grindstaff, Elsie Clark, and Eldona Norris. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The Celebration of Life service for Mr. Grindstaff will be conducted on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Ron Owens officiating.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday prior to the service and at the home at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Seth Grindstaff, Justin Grindstaff, Caleb James, Darryl Hendrix, Robbie Norris, Jimmy Blackburn and Kit Lunceford.
Honorary pallbearers will be J.L. Norris and I.G. Osborn and all "Bud's" many friends and customers.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard.

JOHNSON CITY - Basil Lyle Blackburn, age 76, of Johnson City, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord at his home on Thursday, June 8, 2023 surrounded by his beloved family. Basil was born in Elizabethton and raised in Johnson County and Hampton, to the late Fred Blackburn and Dora Rita (Grindstaff) Blackburn. In addition to his parents, Basil was also preceded in death by his great grandson, “Little Man”- Richard Killian Owens; several aunts and uncles; his mother-in-law, Myrtle Moody; and his brother-in-law, Wayne Hicks.

Basil was a mechanic by trade and could fix anything! He never gave up on trying or doing anything he put his mind too but most of all he loved and cherished his family. Basil had excelled at many things and had a wonderful, hard-working heart of gold. He had owned and operated a Roadrunner Express Delivery Service, Mr. B’s Service Center and Aunt B’s Restaurant. To say he was talented would be a tremendous understatement.

Basil attended Pinecrest Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon. He attended church religiously until his health prevented it. He had also worked with the youth of the church in past years, including youth trips and outings. Basil loved all animals, but especially his dog, Reese. A family man at heart, Basil treasured his trips with his family to the beach, riding motorcycles and children of all ages that were drawn to Basil because of his kind, loving heart.

Those left to remember and cherish Basil’s memories include his loving wife, Phyllis Blackburn; two sons, Brian Blackburn and Chad (Mandy) Blackburn; his granddaughters, Brianna Owens and Allison (Hunter) Hampton; his brother, Albert (Tammy) Blackburn and his sister, Darlene (Carl) Taylor and family; his sister-in-law, Pat Moody Hicks; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members also survive as well as his special cousins, Kenny Grindstaff and Charlie Grindstaff, special niece, Sherry Tilson, special family friend, Shirley Butler and many, many friends that will miss him so very much, too many to list, but they know they were loved.

A service to celebrate the life of Basil Lyle Blackburn will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Mr. Garry Edwards officiating. Emory Cordell will also speak at the service. Music will be under the direction of Larry Pate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Tuesday.

The graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Roselawn Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Kenny Grindstaff, Dennis Bailey, Herman Wyatt, Hunter Hampton, Hobie Hyder, Kenneth Harrison, David Hicks, Clay McNabb, and Steve Tilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Keller, David Vaught, Emory Cordell, Bob Richards, Larry Pate, Buster Hodge, Ronnie Reeser and Charlie Grindstaff.

Died:
James Grindstaff, age 56, of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away on November 27, 2021 after a brief illness. A native of Johnson County, TN, he was born on July 17, 1965 to the late Carl Grindstaff Jr. and Novella Grindstaff.

Jim was a United States veteran and a production worker for Bosch Braking Systems. He was a proud member of UAW Local 2155 where he held several elected positions.

Jim is survived by many loving family members and friends.

Per Jim’s wishes he will be cremated and laid to rest with his parents and grandparents.
