    G. W. IRICK
    G. W. Irick, 73, died at his home Tuesday, Jan. 1, 1935, after a brief illness. He had been in failing health for several years, yet he never gave up, always keeping busy and cheerful.
Mr. Irick was born in Washington County, near Jonesboro, Nov. 17, 1861. In early manhood he came to Carter County and was married to Mary A. Stout.
To this union ten children were born, eight of whom are living; two sons, Oscar N. and Jacob A. Irick preceded their father to the grave several years ago.
Survivors of the deceased are his widow, who has been confined to bed for several months, due to failing health. The surviving sisters are Mrs. Mariah Townsend of Greeneville, Tenn., and Mrs. Gus Hight, Kingsport, Tenn.; also five sons, B. Irick, Thomas, Roy, Ray and Dewey.
Three daughters: Mrs. Bertha Birchfield, Mrs. Golda Greer and Mrs. Cora Montgomery; also thirty grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Irick was one of the most prominent men in the 4th dist. of Carter County, serving as a member of the County Court for eighteen years from this district, also deputy sheriff for six years.
He was a progressive farmer and stock raiser, taking great pride in raising five cattle, horses and hogs. He made a bountiful living on his mountain farm, and was especially noted for his splendid hospitality in his home.
In his passing, neighbors and friends feel the loss of a good citizen, the family feel the loss of a devoted father.
Funeral services were conducted from the home, Wednesday morning by E. M. Miller, an aged minister, who for fifty years has been a friend and neighbor, and for many years pastor of the Christian Church, of which the deceased was a member.
Burial at 2:30 p.m. in Walnut Mtn. Cemetery was attended by a large crowd of neighbors and friends.

    Notes:

On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, our precious mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Norma Jean (Irick) Campbell, was reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband and daughter at the age of 81. Born in Carter County, Tenn., on September 5, 1941, Norma was a daughter of the late Dallas Carroll Irick and Anna Mae “Annie” (Hicks) Irick. Norma was the wife of the late Jack Campbell. Also preceding her in death is her youngest daughter, Carol Ann (Campbell) Guinn; her brothers, Glasco Irick, Haley Irick and Charles Irick; and five sisters, Willa May Morrison, Dorothy Dugger, Pauline Swift, Lena Andrews and Maxine Hardin.
A wonderful and loving Christian lady, Norma was a precious matriarch of her family. She was a true example of a loving and devoted wife and mother to her husband and children. Norma worked tirelessly tending to her home inside and outside and had beautiful rhododendrons in her yard, but moreover she had love in her home. Norma lived in the Buntontown Community of Butler, where she raised her children, until her health declined and she moved to Hudson, N.C., with her oldest daughter. Norma was a staple in her community and will be dearly missed.
Norma retired from Chetola Resort and was a devoted member of Centerview Church of Christ. She loved reading her Bible and going to church both to hear the message of God and to fellowship with her church family and friends. A lover of bluegrass music, Norma enjoyed going to various bluegrass festivals with her family, but most of all Norma enjoyed her family time with her great-grandchildren and watching them play sports. In her spare time she liked doing crossword puzzles.
