DEATH TAKES AGED FARMER
Dan Elliott, 85, retired farmer and father of James Elliott, county tax assessor, and P. H. Elliott, post office official, died this morning at one o'clock at Shoun Hospital after a short illness.
Funeral services will be held from the Dungan Chapel Baptist Church Thursday afternoon at 1:30 with the Rev. J. J. Richardson and the Rev. E. A. Cox officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery.
Mr. Elliott, a prominent and well-known resident of Carter County, was born in Bristol, March, 1851, the son of Joseph and Margaret Elliott. When a small child his parents moved to Carter County on Stoney Creek. For the past thirty-five years he made his home in Elizabethton. He was married to Evelyn Bartee, who passed away six years ago.
Very early in life, Mr. Elliott united with the Dungan Chapel Baptist Church on Stoney Creek where he was always an active member. He was always keenly interested in current affairs and read extensively.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Rasor of Brush, Colorado, Mrs. Jettie Grindstaff of Carter; five sons, P. H. Elliott, W. D. Elliott, Seth Elliott of Elizabethton, R. R. Elliott of Erwin and James Elliott of Watauga; also one step-son, J. L. Bartee; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will include his grandsons and others, Vernon Elliott, Paul Elliott, Niles Elliott, Wayman Johnson, Elwood Grindstaff, Howard Grindstaff, Haywood Elliott and James B. Deal.
Those in charge of the floral offerings will include the granddaughters of the deceased.

Peter B. Elliott, 73, died at his home at Carter yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock as the result of a prolonged illness. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. R. H. Kilgore in charge. Interment followed in the Pierce Cemetery where the Rasor Chapel No. 94 Jr. O.U.A.M. was in charge of the services at the grave.
The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Rena Elliott; six sons, Ray, Robert, Bill, Deal, and Dulaney; four daughters, Mrs. A. V. Williams, Mrs. Roy Berry, Misses Minnie and Gladys Elliott; one brother, Dan Elliott.

MARK ELLIOTT
Mark Elliott, 55, of Route 2, died at the home of a brother, George Elliott of Route 2 Elizabethton today at 2:00 a.m.
He is survived by two brothers, George of Route 2 and M. D. Elliott of Jonesboro; two sisters, Mrs. G. M. Garland and Mrs. Dorothy Bowles both of Elizabethton.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. D. R. Kilgore and the Rev. Webb Myers officiating. Burial will be in the Ritchie Cemetery.
Active pallbearers and flower bearers will be selected from friends at the church.
The body will be removed to the home of his brother, George Saturday evening from the chapel of the Tetrick Funeral Home where it will remain until 1:00 Sunday when it will be taken to the church.

MACK ELLIOTT KILLED IN PA.
Word has been received here by G. M. Garland, Broad Street, that Mack Elliott, a former resident of Carter County and brother-in-law of Garland, had been killed in an accident in Pennsylvania Monday afternoon. No further particulars were known at noon today, except that the body was being shipped to Elizabethton for burial.
Elliott was about 35 years of age and was a native of this county, residing at Hunter for many years. During labor troubles here, Elliott's home at Hunter was blown up by dynamite and completely demolished, which was one of the most exciting and drastic moves during the strike. A thorough investigation was held by state and local officials following the explosion but no one was ever captured or convicted for the deed.
Elliott left here some time after the wrecking of his home and accepted a position with the Standard Oil Company in Pennsylvania with which company he was working when his death occurred. The brief information received here in a telegram yesterday did not say whether he met his death in an automobile accident or in the plant of the oil company. The body will probably arrive in Elizabethton for burial some time tomorrow.
The deceased is a brother of Mrs. G. M. Garland and Mrs. J. R. Boles, both of Elizabethton. He is a cousin of County Tax Assessor James Elliott.

AUTO ACCIDENT KILLS ELLIOTT
Funeral services for Mack Elliott who was killed in an automobile accident in Ohio Monday afternoon, was held at the Baptist Church at Winner, Tennessee, yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Kilgore in charge. Interment followed in the Ritchie Cemetery nearby.
According to information received here by relatives, Elliott was killed when the car he was driving had a head-on collision with another car Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock near Chambersburg, Ohio, while he was en route to his home at Folsom, Pennsylvania. He received a crushed skull in the accident and died twenty minutes later. Brown Elliott, a nephew of the deceased man, was in the car at the time and escaped with only painful bruises.
In giving the information, the nephew said, "We were going pretty fast as we were in a hurry to get back home and start on our work the next morning. It was raining, and the collision occurred when we attempted to pass a car in front of us and collided head-on with another car coming facing us."
The body was shipped here for burial. An ambulance from North Funeral Home met the train there and conveyed the remains to the home of his mother, Mrs. J. P. Elliott of Winner, after being prepared for burial.
Mr. Elliott had been mechanical foreman for the Sun Oil Company in Pennsylvania for the past two years. He is a native of Carter County and is well known here.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nora Elliott; mother, Mrs. J. P. Elliott of Winner; three brothers, Mark Elliott of Stoney Creek, who is an invalid; George Elliott also of Stoney Creek, and M. B. Elliott of Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. R. L. Bowles and Mrs. G. M. Garland of Elizabethton.

Death Takes P. H. Elliott
Peter Hamilton Elliott, age 68, died in Swingle's hospital in Johnson City, Wednesday at 7 p.m., after a short illness.
Mr. Elliott, head of the Money Order department of the Elizabethton Post Office, was the son of Mrs. and Mrs. Daniel Elliott, Stony Creek who were members of one of the prominent pioneer families of Carter County.
He received his appointment as a Post Office Clerk under Civil Service June 1, 1919, and was in the local post office for 31 years.
He was a life long Christian leader, was born on Stony Creek, received his education at Watauga Academy, Milligan and State Teachers College. He taught school for 14 years and was a merchant in the Stony Creek section. He had been a deacon of the First Baptist Church for 35 years, and served as chairman of the board for many years, was a teacher of the Men's Baracca Class for over 30 years, and member of Dashiel Lodge No. 238.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. P. H. Elliott; two sons, Paul Elliott of Elizabethton, Tenn.; Haynes Elliott of Elizabethton; three daughters, Mrs. Anita Ferguson, Elizabethton, Mrs. H. C. Hopkins, Birmingham, Ala., and Mrs. Sam Daniels of Elizabethton; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Rasor of Denver, Colorado, Mrs. Jettie Grindstaff of Elizabethton; four brothers, Joe, Jim, and Seth of Elizabethton, R. R. of Erwin, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 1:30 from the First Baptist Church with Rev. W. C Taggart, in charge assisted by Rev. J. J. Musick and Rev. M. H. Carder.
Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Bryon Woodruff and Miss Ruth Scott.
Burial will be made in Highland Cemetery.
The body will be returned there until 12:30 Friday when it will be removed to the First Baptist Church to lie in state until time for the funeral.

Will Elliott Dies After Heart Attack
W. D. Elliott, prominent Carter County farmer, died in the St. Elizabeth Hospital at 12:15 today following a heart attack at his home last Friday night.
Mr. Elliott is survived by his wife, the former Belle Campbell, Elizabethton and three sons, Niles, Vernon and Haywood Elliott and Mrs. Edward Buckles, all of Elizabethton. Six grandchildren also survive.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Mr. Elliott is the brother of Joe Bartee and Pete Elliott of Elizabethton, James and Seth Elliott and Mrs. R. W. Grindstaff of Route 2 and R. H. Elliott of Erwin. His sister, Mrs. Wiley Rasor of Denver, Colorado was a recent visitor in Elizabethton.

Roscoe Elliott Dies Of Own Hands Coroner Reports
Roscoe Lawrence Elliott, 32, "died by his own hands" at his home on Scenic Drive Sunday afternoon at 6 p.m., according to findings of the coroner's jury report.
Deputy Sheriff Harlan Oakes said that the deceased "had shot himself with a .22 gauge rifle while his wife was away from home at a neighbor's home.
Those on the jury were the Coroner Roy Merritt, O. B. Collins, P. J. Little, J. R. Lyons, Floyd Church, Worley Merritt, Russell Fraley. Deputies who investigated were Oakes and Nidiffer.
The funeral service will be conducted from the Calvary Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. George Westmoreland officiating.

Mrs. Mary Elliott Daniels, 82, 509 Blevins Avenue, Elizabethton, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton following a brief illness.
Mrs. Daniels was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Peter H. and Bessie Shoun Elliott. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sam G. Daniels, a son, Gary Daniels, a brother and two sisters.
Mrs. Daniels was of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Becky Daniels, Johnson City; a brother, Haynes Elliott, Elizabethton; and a grandson, Jonathan David Daniels, U.S. Navy, San Diego, Calif. Three nieces also survive.

ELIZABETHTON - Lois (Peanut) Elliott Greer, 87, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Andy J. & Onnie Bell Brookshire Elliott. Peanut was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. She was Co-Owner of Treasure Chest Ceramic & Porcelain Shop for several years. She loved working in her flowers and in her garden. Peanut was a member of Eastside Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Norman L. Greer who passed away December 24, 2016, by a brother: Roscoe Elliott and three sisters: Ruth Maines, Gertie Nave and Ivan Elliott.

Survivors include her nieces & nephew: Marie Blankenship, Jean (Leonard) Peters, Bob (Sharon) Elliott and Judy (Doug) Bailey. Several great nieces & nephews, her brother-in-law George Frank (Nadine) Greer, also her cat Sheba.

Norma Elliott Neece, 90, of Johnson City, TN, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at the Lakebridge Health Care Center.
She was born in Elizabethton, TN, on January 18, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Dayton and Sally Deloach Elliott.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. "Tommy" Neece, in 2006; a brother and sister-in-law, Thurman and Nova Elliott; and two nephews, T.J. Elliott and Patrick Elliott.
Mrs. Neece was a homemaker and a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church. She graduated from Elizabethton High School and Steed College. She worked several years in the Carter County School System as a secretary and a county lunchroom supervisor.
She was an avid lover of animals and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Marilyn Neece, Greeneville, TN, and Steve Neece, Murfreesboro, TN; one granddaughter, Leslie Hedges, of Johnson City; one grandson, John Douglas Neece and wife, Amanda, Murfreesboro, TN; three great granddaughters, Laci and Lexi Hedges, Johnson City, and Kaylee Neece, Murfreesboro, TN; two great grandsons, Caleb Hughes, of Johnson City, and Austin Kelley, Murfreesboro, TN; and one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Elwood "Woodie" and Jane Neece, Lillian, AL.
The funeral service for Mrs. Neece will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 23, 2013, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. John Perkins and Rev. Mike Richards, officiating.

ELIZABETHTON — Jones E. Williams, age 93, 129 Harry Buckles Rd., Elizabethton went to be with The Lord on Sunday, January 1, 2006, in the James A. Quillen V.A. Medical Center, Johnson City, following a lengthy illness. He was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Armstrong and Sadie Sarah Elliott Williams. Mr. Williams was a very active member of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church and had served as church clerk, Sunday School superintendent, teacher, Bible School director and also printed the church bulletin. Mr. Williams’ Sunday School Class, the Jones Williams Sunday School Class, was named in his honor. He retired from North American Rayon Corporation. He was a licensed electrician. Mr. Williams was a 1st Sergeant in the U.S. Army having served during WW II in both the European and Pacific Theaters. In 1935 till 1938 Mr. Williams served in the 11th Medical Regiment at Schofield Barracks in Oahu, Hawaii. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of fifty-four years, Kate Buckles Williams, three sisters, June Perry, Ruth Longmire, Gladys Williams, and two brothers, Roy Williams and Herman Williams. Mr. Williams was a devoted father to his family which includes two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Garry Holly, Julie and Bill Tetrick, one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Tonie Williams, all of Elizabethton, a loving and perfect papaw to his six granddaughters, Ronda Greaves, Tonya Hardy, Jessica Storie, Erica Holly, Ashley Tetrick, Christen Williams and his grandson, Jared Tetrick, one great-granddaughter, McKenzie Storie, one brother, Ray Williams, Elizabethton and one special niece, Gail Buckles. A funeral service for Mr. Williams will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church with Dr. William Duncan and Rev. James Hawk officiating. Music will be under the direction of The Smith Sisters, Debbie Gouge, Larry Stout and David Long, soloist. Interment will follow in the Buckles Cemetery with Rev. Clayton Briggs officiating. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late A.V. & Sarah Sadie Elliott Williams. He was a graduate of Unaka High School and attended Steed College of Johnson City.

He was a retired Machinist from Bristol Compressors. Mr. Williams served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Williams was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church, where he had served as Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, Trustee and Deacon for several years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Fannon Williams, November 17, 2003; by a son, James Williams, in 1970; four brothers: Roy, Twin brother Clay, Jones and Herman Williams; and Three Sisters: Gladys Williams, Ruth Longmire and June Perry.

Survivors include a son: Billy Ray Williams, Johnson City; A daughter: Kathryn Williams, of Virginia; Several Nieces & Nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2009, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bruce Hendrich and Rev. Bob Polk officiating.

ELIZABETHTON - Fornie Dungan "FD" Elliott, 92, Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 2, 2016, in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home after a brief illness.

A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Roy & Rosa Buckles Elliott of Stoney Creek. FD enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at Nashville, Tennessee on the 8th day of January 1943. As a proud Marine of World War II, he was at Iwo Jima when the Marines raised the U.S. Flag in 1945. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts while serving his country. He was also the recipient of the Combat Action Ribbon for service in World War II. The Presidential Unit Citation with one bronze star, the 4th Marine Division for service on Saipan and Tinian during the period June 15 to August 1, 1944, the Assault Troops, 5th Amphibious Corps for service on Iwo Jima during the period February 19 to 28, 1944, The American Campaign Medal, The Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze campaign stars, the World War II, Victory Medal and the Rifle Expert Badge. Mr. Elliott was a retired sheet metal worker from North American Rayon Corporation and then worked part-time at Freeman Taylor Quick Cleaners in Elizabethton.

After he and his wife retired, they loved camping and spending time with their friends. They worked as volunteers at Roan Mountain State Park for 17 years. He was an active member of First Free Will Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board, served as a Superintendent of the Sunday school, also a choir member for several years and a Sunday School Teacher of the Junior Boys Sunday School Class for several years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice McQueen Elliott; by a son, Jeffery Elliott; two sisters, Sally Grindstaff and Corine Roberts; and a brother, Toy Elliott.

Survivors include a granddaughter, Jennifer Elliott, Elizabethton; a grandson and his wife, Johnny & Lori Elliott, Elizabethton; three great– grandchildren, Sydney and Maci Elliott and Logan Turbyfill; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces & nephews. Also his three family pets that he loved also survive.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Sunday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Nathan Jennings and Rev. Jack Lloyd.

Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016, in Mountain Home National Cemetery. Music will be provided by the First Free Will Baptist Church Choir, JoAnn Campbell, Pianist and Carol Bowers, Organist.

ELIZABETHTON - Robert G. Elliott, age 90, of Elizabethton went to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 23, 2023. He was born on September 11, 1932 to the late J. Deal and Margaret Elliott.

Robert was a Staff Sargent having served in the Airforce during the Korean War. He graduated from Unaka High School and attended East TN State College. Robert held several positions in the Plastic Industry including Sales Manager of the Automotive Plastic Division of Rockwell International. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed listening to Dr. Charles Stanley every Sunday.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Marie Love Elliott; son. Michael Elliott; brother-in-law, J.D. Elliott and sister-in-law, Christine Elliott. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Dennis Elliott, of Elizabethton; daughter, Robin Sutherland and husband Tim, of Haysi, VA; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Robert’s wish was for a private graveside service in the Mountain Home National Cemetery.
