    JOHNSON CITY - Everetta Bailey Altman, 82, Johnson City went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 18, 2023 at her residence. She was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and was the daughter of the late Everett and Shirley Truitt Bailey. Everetta was a member of Maranatha Tabernacle in Unicoi. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter Kathy Jo Altman Dugger.

    Known as Mom, Gramamma, Ms. Everetta, Wonder Woman, and A Hoot, Everetta was everyone's other Mother - filling roles of counselor, teacher, prayer warrior, friend. Nanny by trade but loved traveling, cooking, movies, concerts, birds, plants, photography, miniatures, and had a knack for teaching vegan nutrition through drama and humor.

    Everetta leaves behind her daughter Teri Altman Vines, grandchildren Andrew (Sharon) Dugger, Audrey (Ricky) King, and six great-grandchildren.

    A memorial service for Everetta will be conducted at 6:00 PM Friday, June 30, 2023 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor E.L. Wheeler officiating. Special music will be provided by Queenie Wheeler. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Private graveside services will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Johnson City.

    Everetta married Thomas W. "Tommy" Altman on 15 Aug 1959 in , Washington County, Tennessee, .     She is preceded in death by both parents, Joseph M. Truitt and Annie B. Heaton. She leaves behind a brother, Bryan Truitt of Jonesborough, TN; a sister, Sandra T. Whitehead of Buford, GA; her daughter, Morgan Shipley and her grandson, Avery Stephens of the home. She was a graduate of ETSU where she earned her BSN. She completed her post graduate degree, MSN, from the University of Phoenix. Kathrine spent 17 years as the Infectious Disease and Employee Health Nurse at Woodridge Hospital, retiring in 2004. A celebration of life will be held at Carver Recreation on Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 3pm – 5pm.
