DEATH TAKES AGED FARMER
Dan Elliott, 85, retired farmer and father of James Elliott, county tax assessor, and P. H. Elliott, post office official, died this morning at one o'clock at Shoun Hospital after a short illness.
Funeral services will be held from the Dungan Chapel Baptist Church Thursday afternoon at 1:30 with the Rev. J. J. Richardson and the Rev. E. A. Cox officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery.
Mr. Elliott, a prominent and well-known resident of Carter County, was born in Bristol, March, 1851, the son of Joseph and Margaret Elliott. When a small child his parents moved to Carter County on Stoney Creek. For the past thirty-five years he made his home in Elizabethton. He was married to Evelyn Bartee, who passed away six years ago.
Very early in life, Mr. Elliott united with the Dungan Chapel Baptist Church on Stoney Creek where he was always an active member. He was always keenly interested in current affairs and read extensively.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Rasor of Brush, Colorado, Mrs. Jettie Grindstaff of Carter; five sons, P. H. Elliott, W. D. Elliott, Seth Elliott of Elizabethton, R. R. Elliott of Erwin and James Elliott of Watauga; also one step-son, J. L. Bartee; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will include his grandsons and others, Vernon Elliott, Paul Elliott, Niles Elliott, Wayman Johnson, Elwood Grindstaff, Howard Grindstaff, Haywood Elliott and James B. Deal.
Those in charge of the floral offerings will include the granddaughters of the deceased.

Death Takes P. H. Elliott
Peter Hamilton Elliott, age 68, died in Swingle's hospital in Johnson City, Wednesday at 7 p.m., after a short illness.
Mr. Elliott, head of the Money Order department of the Elizabethton Post Office, was the son of Mrs. and Mrs. Daniel Elliott, Stony Creek who were members of one of the prominent pioneer families of Carter County.
He received his appointment as a Post Office Clerk under Civil Service June 1, 1919, and was in the local post office for 31 years.
He was a life long Christian leader, was born on Stony Creek, received his education at Watauga Academy, Milligan and State Teachers College. He taught school for 14 years and was a merchant in the Stony Creek section. He had been a deacon of the First Baptist Church for 35 years, and served as chairman of the board for many years, was a teacher of the Men's Baracca Class for over 30 years, and member of Dashiel Lodge No. 238.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. P. H. Elliott; two sons, Paul Elliott of Elizabethton, Tenn.; Haynes Elliott of Elizabethton; three daughters, Mrs. Anita Ferguson, Elizabethton, Mrs. H. C. Hopkins, Birmingham, Ala., and Mrs. Sam Daniels of Elizabethton; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Rasor of Denver, Colorado, Mrs. Jettie Grindstaff of Elizabethton; four brothers, Joe, Jim, and Seth of Elizabethton, R. R. of Erwin, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 1:30 from the First Baptist Church with Rev. W. C Taggart, in charge assisted by Rev. J. J. Musick and Rev. M. H. Carder.
Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Bryon Woodruff and Miss Ruth Scott.
Burial will be made in Highland Cemetery.
The body will be returned there until 12:30 Friday when it will be removed to the First Baptist Church to lie in state until time for the funeral.

Will Elliott Dies After Heart Attack
W. D. Elliott, prominent Carter County farmer, died in the St. Elizabeth Hospital at 12:15 today following a heart attack at his home last Friday night.
Mr. Elliott is survived by his wife, the former Belle Campbell, Elizabethton and three sons, Niles, Vernon and Haywood Elliott and Mrs. Edward Buckles, all of Elizabethton. Six grandchildren also survive.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Mr. Elliott is the brother of Joe Bartee and Pete Elliott of Elizabethton, James and Seth Elliott and Mrs. R. W. Grindstaff of Route 2 and R. H. Elliott of Erwin. His sister, Mrs. Wiley Rasor of Denver, Colorado was a recent visitor in Elizabethton.

William Daniel Elliott, age 65, died in a local hospital Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. after a short illness.
Mr. Elliott was a member of the Lynn Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife Mrs. Bell Elliott, Route 5, Elizabethton; four sons, Niles Elliott, Vernon Elliott, Haywood Elliott, Cleamon Elliott of Elizabethton; one daughter, Mrs. Edward Buckles, Elizabethton; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Rasor, Denver, Col., Mrs. Jettie Grindstaff, Elizabethton; P. H. Elliott, Elizabethton, Ruben Elliott, Erwin; 6 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 1:30 from the Lynn Valley Baptist Church with Rev. D. H. Kilgore, Rev. Carl Ash and Rev. Ralph Sneed officiating.
Burial will be made in Highland Cemetery.

Roscoe Elliott Dies Of Own Hands Coroner Reports
Roscoe Lawrence Elliott, 32, "died by his own hands" at his home on Scenic Drive Sunday afternoon at 6 p.m., according to findings of the coroner's jury report.
Deputy Sheriff Harlan Oakes said that the deceased "had shot himself with a .22 gauge rifle while his wife was away from home at a neighbor's home.
Those on the jury were the Coroner Roy Merritt, O. B. Collins, P. J. Little, J. R. Lyons, Floyd Church, Worley Merritt, Russell Fraley. Deputies who investigated were Oakes and Nidiffer.
The funeral service will be conducted from the Calvary Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. George Westmoreland officiating.

Mrs. Mary Elliott Daniels, 82, 509 Blevins Avenue, Elizabethton, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton following a brief illness.
Mrs. Daniels was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Peter H. and Bessie Shoun Elliott. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sam G. Daniels, a son, Gary Daniels, a brother and two sisters.
Mrs. Daniels was of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Becky Daniels, Johnson City; a brother, Haynes Elliott, Elizabethton; and a grandson, Jonathan David Daniels, U.S. Navy, San Diego, Calif. Three nieces also survive.
Graveside services and interment were held Sunday, July 4, at Highland Cemetery with Rev. Dave Shorter officiating.
Memorial Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Our dearly beloved brother, George Allen Elliott, left this earth for his heavenly home on May 4, 2023. George was a kind, loving, honest free spirit who trusted everyone. George leaves behind his loved and faithful companion dog Maggie, who he raised from a puppy; one sister, Emma Elliott Wilson; one son, David Elliott; cousins, nieces and nephews; and good friend, Jim Tolley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac Stacy Elliott and Edith Elliott Hill; brothers, Buddy Roger and Billy Wayne Elliott; and infant son, Daniel Elliott. A short memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 27, at 1 p.m. at Washington County Memory Gardens, 113 Memory Garden Road, Johnson City, Tenn., in the Cross Section.

ROSCOE LAWRENCE ELLIOTT
Roscoe Elliott, 4-weeks-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Elliott, died this morning at 8:30 at their home, 201 Cottage Avenue.
Funeral is to be conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the home, in charge of the Rev. A. D. Hoffman, with burial in the Colbaugh Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alvin Bowman and John Large.
Surviving are the parents, a paternal grandfather, J. T. Elliott, and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Jim Large.
The body was returned to the home at 3 this afternoon.

John Wayne "Abe" Elliott, born in 1947, died January 15, 2017. He surrendered to cancer. He did not live to be 100 and not shot by a jealous husband as he joked about.
He is survived by a brother, Lon Elliott; four sisters; three daughters, Alacia, Sherri and Wendy; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his soulmate, Missy and family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances; father, Rosco; step-father, Ed Hyder; and step-brother, Alston Hyder.
Now he can go fishing every day. May he rest in peace.
There will be a celebration of life at the Covered Bridge in Elizabethton on March 5 at 1 p.m.

JOHNSON CITY - Samuel Gibson "Sam" Daniels, 69, Johnson City passed away Friday, October 30, 2015 in the Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Samuel & Mary Elliott Daniels. Sam attended Elizabethton Schools and was a graduate of East Tennessee State University. He served his country in the US Army and the Naval Reserves. He was a former employee of the Elizabethton and Johnson City Police Departments and prior to his illness retired as a Captain of the Security System of the Johnson City Medical Center. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Gary E, Daniels. He is survived by his wife Paula Rebecca "Becky" Buck Daniels. A step-son: Eric (Christy) Kelly, Greeneville and his two best furry friends Mollie & Roxie. A special thanks is extended to the Staff of the 3300 Wing of Princeton Transition Center of the Johnson City Medical Center for their loving and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 75817, Topeka, Kansas 66675. Private Services will be held as per his request. Memorial Funeral Chapel is serving the Daniels family.

Ola Maxine Elliott Estep, 76, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at her residence.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Niles B. and Verna Faye Grindstaff Elliott. She was a 1954 graduate of Elizabethton High School. Maxine received her RN degree from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She retired from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center after 38 years of service.
She was a member of the Business and Professional Women Club, a member of the Sycamore Chapter #163 Order of Eastern Star. Maxine was a member of the Grace Baptist Church and the Victory Sunday School Class and served in the Church Choir for a number of years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Paul E. Estep, who died September 25, 2011.
Survivors include Two Daughters: Kim Estep Wright and husband, Jeff, and Jill Estep Cooper and husband, Arthur, all of Johnson City; Three Grandchildren: Chris Wright, Jordan Wright and Whitney Wright; Two Great Grandchildren, Camden Wright and Gracie Wright; Several nieces & nephews; One Sister: Nilene Hopkins, Johnson City; Three Brothers-In-Law: George Estep Jr., Lee Edwin Estep and wife, Gay, all of Elizabethton, and Huey Estep and wife, Lydia, Arcadia, California; One Sister-In-Law: Johnie Estep, Elizabethton; Her special friends who assisted her with her care and never left her side: Nancy White, Corine Phillips, Lois Persinger and Kathleen Glover.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Greer and Rev. Jimmy Hawk officiating.
Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Chris Hughes and Rev. Richard Estep officiating. Music will be provided by the Grace Baptist Church Choir, led by Debbie Gouge. ELIZABETHTON - Teresa A. Buckles, 72, Elizabethton passed away on Friday, May 10, 2019 at the Hermitage Health Care Facility, after an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Juanita Elliott Buckles. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Eddie Buckles. She was a Graduate of Unaka High School and attended East Tennessee State University. Teresa was a Medical Administrative Assistant, at the Mountain Home Veteran's Hospital, and retired after over 40 years of service. She was a member of Lynn Valley Baptist Church. Teresa loved to travel with her dear friends and spend time with her family.

Survivors include her niece, Tracy Buckles and nephew, Lance (Sissy) Buckles. She also left behind her sister-in-law, Shirley Buckles. Teresa leaves behind a great nephew, Chris (Morgan) Buckles and a great great niece, Mackenzie Blevins. She will also be greatly missed by her special friends, Ella Carol Peters, Alma Montgomery, and Phyllis Little.

It was Teresa's wish to be cremated and have a private Celebration of her Life by her close family. The family would like to express gratitude to Hermitage Health Care Facility for the excellent care.
