    MRS. NANCY VINES
    Mrs. Nancy Hicks Vines, age 89, died in the St. Elizabeth Hospital Monday at 4:30 p.m. after an illness of 10 days.
    Mrs. Vines was a native of North Carolina, but has made her home in Carter County for a number of years. She was one of the oldest citizens of Carter County, and a member of the Baptist church at Fish Springs.
    Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Maggie Campbell, Fish Springs; five sons, John Vines, Will Vines, Johnson City; Frank Vines, Fish Springs, Grove Vines, Butler; James Vines, Fish Springs; 28 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Fish Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Charlie Souder and Rev. George Westmoreland in charge.
    The body will remain in the chapel of the Roy Hathaway Funeral Home.
    Active pallbearers and flower bearers will be selected from friends at the service.
    The Roy Hathaway Funeral Home is in charge.

    James Wilburn Vines, age 85 of Route 2, Butler, Fish Springs Community, died in the Carter County Memorial Hospital Wednesday at 4:00 a.m. after a long illness. He was a native of Johnson County and the son of the late Elias J. and Nancy Hicks Vines. He was a retired coal miner and member of Christian Church.
    Survviors[sic] include a son, Elias Vines, Butler; two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Hicks, Butler, and Mrs. Mae Hicks, Elk Park, N.C.; one brother, John Vines, Johnson City; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were conducted from Fish Springs Baptist Church Friday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Russell Potter and Rev. Clarence Snodgrass officiating. Burial was in Matherly cemetery.
    Pallbearers were friends and neighbors.

    Mr. Vines was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Wilburn James and Matilda Hicks Vines. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lena Hicks Vines, two sons, Brady Vines and Paul Vines, a sister, Bessie Vines, a brother, Cecil Fields, and a son-in-law, the Rev. Dennis Ward.
    Mr. Vines was a member of Fish Springs Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation and was also a farmer.
    Survivors include a daughter, Beulah Ward, Butler; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles Vines and Glenn and Patricia Vines, all of Butler; a sister, Mae Hicks, Elk Park, N.C.; five grandchildren, Doug Vines, Hampton, Judy Woods, Elizabethton, Cody Vines, Butler, Glenn Vines Jr., Memphis, and Freda Wagner, Butler; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Whaley, Elizabethton; special friends, Effie Henson, Butler, Martha Poole, Butler, and Tony Hathaway, Elizabethton; and all his special friends at Hermitage Health Center.

    Tina Bell Campbell Holden, age 102, Abingdon, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013, in the Abingdon Manor Nursing Home following an extended illness.

    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late James Lawson and Magdaline Vines Campbell. She had lived in Abingdon since 1999. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Holden was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Abingdon Ward.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Holden, in 1986; an infant son and a daughter, Bobbie Jo Hood; and nine brothers and sisters.

    Survivors include her Son-In-Law: Robert "Sonny" Hood, Hampton; Her Grandchildren: Terry Hood and wife Caroline, Abingdon, Sherry Carson and husband, Greg, Yorkshire, England, and Tammy Rice and husband, David, Plano, Texas; 16 Great Grandchildren; 11 Great Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces & Nephew.

    Graveside Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, in the Butler Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 3 p.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.

    ELIZABETHTON — Billie Dove Vines Taylor, 84, of 131 Parsonage Road, Elizabethton, formerly of Rome Hollow, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2012 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

    She was born in Carter County in the Fish Springs Community and was the daughter of the late Grover and Bessie Timbs Vines. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Dean Vines, J.C. Vines, Raymond Vines and Winston Vines; three sisters, Orlena Gouge, Velma Vines and Nell Cates; and one grandson, Clifford Edwards.

    Ms. Taylor was a member of Carter Christian Church and was a retired cook at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She enjoyed Sunday dinners, quilting, sewing, reading her bible and spending time with her family.

    Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Tenia and Gary Payne, Mountain City; and Dora and Dwayne Buckles, Elizabethton; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Tedford and Ramona Taylor, Johnson City; three grandchildren, Blake Taylor and wife Rachel; Caroline Payne and Tiffany Buckles; three great grandchildren, Jackson Taylor, Levi Taylor, and Lillia Taylor; two brothers, Ottis Vines and wife Jackie, Hampton; and Edward Vines and wife Marge, Hyattsville, Maryland. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

    The funeral service for Ms. Taylor will be conducted at 7:00 PM, on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Tom Caraway, minister and Mr. Daryl Cox, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service; or at the home of her daughter, Dora Buckles, 131 Parsonage Road, Elizabethton at any time. Music will be under the direction of Christina Lewis and Richard Bowers.

    The graveside service will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, in the Taylor Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Daniel Buckles, Joseph Buckles, Lanny Eggers, Dean Buckles, Jeff Farmer, Ennis Bowers, Leonard Bowers, Gaylon Taylor, Tim Vines, James Pierce, and Kenny Vines. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and great nephews and members of Carter Christian Church. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

    The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Robert Walter, Dr. David Fenner, Dr. Harold Alison, Dr. Charles Famoyin and the nurses and staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital and Amedisys Healthcare.

    SSG. Charlie Vines, 82, of the Fish Springs Community, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. He was the son of the late Elias Jefferson and Lena Dory Hicks Vines and was born in the Fish Springs Community of Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Brady Vines.

    He was retired from the Raytheon Corporation and was also a retired veteran of the Army National Guard. He was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge #750 F & AM for over fifty years, and was a devoted giver and supporter of St. Judes Childrens Hospital for over thirty seven years. He was also a supporter and giver to the Disabled American Veterans and the Elizabethton/Carter Animal Shelter. He was a member of Fish Springs Baptist Church.

    SSG. Vines is survived by a son, Doug Vines and his wife, Kim, Hampton; a daughter, Judy Woods, Elizabethton; a granddaughter, Jessica Whaley, Blountville; a sister, Beulah Ward, Butler; a brother, Glenn Vines, Butler; a special niece, Freda Wagner, Fish Springs and a special friend and the mother of his children, Arlene Townsend. He will also be missed by his special dog, "Little Bit".

    A service to honor the life of SSG. Vines will be conducted on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Stevie Guinn officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday prior to the service or at the home of his sister, Beulah Ward, or his son, Doug Vines, at other times.

    The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Vines Cemetery in the Fish Springs Community. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Tom McCloud will serve as honorary pallbearer. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet the family at the cemetery at 10:45 AM on Tuesday.

    Funeral services for Ruth Ann Myers Wilson will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday, January 4, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Steve Dugger officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday, January 5, at Butler Memorial Cemetery.
