    Notes:

    Jack Hopson, age 84, of Unicoi, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Franklin Woods Medical Center following a long illness.

    He was a native of Mitchell County, North Carolina and lived with his loving wife of 60 years, Bertie Waldrop Hopson, on Marbleton Road in Unicoi.

    He was a son of the late Jake and Ader Peterson Hopson.

    Jack loved his family greatly, and truly enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jack liked helping people and did so often, enjoyed gospel music, and would sometimes be caught singing. He was an honest hardworking man and loved by his family greatly.

    Jack came to peace in the last days with his illness and with the Lord. Jack will be missed very much by all who had the privilege to know him.

    Mr. Hopson was a carpenter with Powell Construction and attended Green Pine Baptist Church.

    In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by brothers, Floyd Hopson, JH Hopson, Smith Hopson and a sister, Ruth Morton.

    Jack has left behind to cherish his memories: Wife: Bertie Waldrop Hopson of Unicoi; Sons: Tony Hopson and wife, Helen of Elizabethton; Danny Hopson of Unicoi; Sisters: Georgia Stockton Lavender of North Carolina; Fannie Higgins of Johnson City; 7 Grandchildren: Bobby, Jeremiah, Kris, Racheal, Dani Jo, Tony Jr., and Sydney; 8 Great Grandchildren

    Jack's family would like to thank the nursing staff at Franklin Woods Medical Center for taking such good care of him and his family during his stay.

    The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Jack Hopson in a funeral service to be held at 7:00 PM, Friday, June 5, 2015, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Jack Dykes and Reverend Dallas Gregg will officiate. Vocal selections will be provided by Diane Phillips.

    A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 5:00 PM and continue until service time on Friday at Valley Funeral Home.

    A committal service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 6, 2015, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Roselawn Memory Gardens.

    Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at Valley Funeral Home by 10:30 AM to go in procession to Roselawn Memory Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Tony Hopson, Danny Hopson, Kris Hopson, Tony Hopson, Jr., George Adkin, Tic Osborne, Budd Honeycutt, and Dakota Gouge.

    JOHNSON CITY - Mrs. Fannie Higgins, 87, Johnson City, died Friday, May 21, 2021, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

    Fannie was a native of Mitchell County, North Carolina. She was a daughter of the late Jacob and Ader Peterson Hopson.

    Fannie was a devoted minister’s wife and raised five wonderful children. She loved gardening, canning, and sharing her bounty. Fannie was a member of Harvest Time Baptist Church. She was a strong, Christian woman who loved the Lord.

    In addition to her parents Fannie was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. George Higgins, two sisters and four brothers.

    Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Brenda Propst and husband Bill of Jonesborough, Wendi McCracken and husband Mike of Marietta, GA; sons, Garry Higgins and wife Debi of Gray, Dennis Higgins of Johnson City, Tim Higgins of Johnson City; several loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her beloved four-legged companion, Bear.

    A private graveside service for Fannie will be held in Mountain Home National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband.

    JONESBOROUGH - Rev. Harley Howard Hopson, age 89, Jonesborough, passed away Friday, December 1, 2016 at Johnson City Medical Center.

    Rev. Hopson was born in Mitchell County, NC and son of the late Clifford & Nora Deyton Hopson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Tessie Hopson, three brothers, Howard Hopson, Herbert Hopson and Norman Hopson and one sister, Irene Ingle Roberts.

    He was a member of Unity Family Worship Center. He started several churches including Mountain City Church of God and Jonesborough Church of God.

    Rev. Hopson was a United States Navy Veteran.

    Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Randy & Kathy Hopson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie & Steve Morris and Karen & Richard Ralston; grandchildren, Angela Davidson, Garrett Morris, Dustin Morris (Brittney) and Jessica Peregoy; great-grandchildren, Harley Lenea Davidson, Dylan Davidson, Blaine Peregoy, Areli Morris and Willow Morris; brothers and sisters, Frances Hensley, Charlene Hensley, Shirley Peterson, Nora Rickman, Sharon Pendley, Carl Hopson and Clifton Hopson.

    Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 pm Monday, December 5, 2016 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Hopson and Rev. Dustin Morris officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 pm Monday prior to the service and other times at 4192 Old Stage Coach Rd. Telford, TN.

    Interment services will be conducted 11:00 am Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Cherry Grove-Keplinger Cemetery.

    Pallbearers will be Steve Morris, Richard Ralston, Garrett Morris, Bill Head, Frank Tibbs and Daniel Ramsey.

    Herbert Hopson, age 84, of Green Mountain, went home to be with Lord on Sunday, September 8th, 2013 at St. Josephs Hospital. He was a son of the late Clifford and Nora Deaton Hopson. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Diane Hopson and a brother, Howard Hopson. Herbert was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was a people person and loved the Lord. He worked at Carolina Tire for a number of years where he repaired TV's and electronics and enjoyed farming, hunting and singing.

    Surviving is his loving wife of 47 years, Linda Sue McCurry Hopson; sons: Kevin Hopson and wife, Michele, of Mars Hill and Gary Hopson of Green Mountain; daughter, Susie Shelton and husband, Jackie, of Mars Hill; brothers: Harley Hopson of TN, Norman Hopson of Burnsville, Carl Hopson and Clifton Hopson both of AL; sisters: Irene Roberts of TN, Charlene Hensley of Burnsville, Francis Whitson of Green Mountain and Shirley Peterson of Burnsville; grandchildren: Justus Shelton, Jesse Shelton, Sidney Alexander, Sarah Beth Alexander and Annabelle Grace Hopson all of Mars Hill; nieces: Nora Rickman of VA and Sharon Pendley of Burnsville. Numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

    Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. The Rev. Marvin Hensley, Rev. Dean Murphy and Rev. Junior Peterson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the Peterson Hill Cemetery.

    Irene Hopson Engle Roberts, age 80, 111 Bradshaw Woods Drive, Erwin, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday evening, December 10, 2013, at her home. A longtime resident of Unicoi County, she was born in Green Mountain, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Clifford and Noro Deaton Hopson. Mrs. Roberts retired, after 28 years of dedicated service, as a seamstress with Industrial Garment. She was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a member of the Dorcus Sunday School Class.
    She took pride in her home and family and loved to read her entire life.
    Other than her parents, Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her husband of forty-six years, Orvil Engle; an infant daughter, Brenda Sue Engle; two brothers: Howard Hopson and Herbert Hopson.

    Survivors include her husband of seventeen years, Jay Will Roberts; three daughters: Linda Engle Fore and husband, Robert L., Johnson City, Patsy Engle Gilbert and husband, Glenn, Erwin, Joyce Engle Davis and husband, David, Johnson City; two step-sons: William Larry Roberts and wife, Helen, North Ridgeville, Ohio and Gary Wayne Roberts, Johnson City; six grandchildren: Tracy Fore Bishop and husband, David, Jonesborough, Sara Gilbert Schwenke and husband, Gary, Erwin, Carl Glenn Gilbert and wife, Anna, Elizabethton, Mark William Gilbert, Erwin, Matthew Allen Davis and Rachel Davis, both of Johnson City; six great grandchildren: Dylan Dean Bishop, Robert David Bishop, Chase Alexander Gilbert, Ava Katherine Gilbert, Dakota Wesley Schwenke and Blake Liam Schwenke; four brothers: Harley Hopson, Jonesborough, Norman Hopson and wife, Nadine, Burnsville, Carl Hopson, Phenix City, Alabama and Clifton Hopson, Ocala, Alabama; three sisters: Charlene Hensley and husband, Fred, Burnsville, Francis Whitson, Shirley Peterson and husband, Ronnie, all of Green Mountain.
    Numerous nieces and nephews including two beloved nieces: Nora Jean Rickman, Roanoke and Sharon Pendly, Burnsville.

    The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Amedisys Home Health and Hospice including Cindy, Deborah and Debbie, also, to mother's caregivers: Cindy Stokes and Anna Stevens and to longtime family friend, Linda Ollis for her kindness and help during mother's illness.

    Funeral service for Mrs. Roberts will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013, from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend David Crutchfield assisted by Reverend Bernie Jones will officiate. Special music will be provided by Donnette Haun, Karen Ralston, Debbie Morris and Inez Chandler. Active pallbearers will be Carl Glenn Gilbert, Mark William Gilbert, Matthew Allen Davis, David Bishop and Gary Schwenke. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Fore, David Davis, Glenn Gilbert, William Larry Roberts and Gary Wayne Roberts.

    Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

    Norman Hopson, age 77, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 9th, 2015 at Mission's Memorial Campus. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Clifford and Nora Deaton Hopson. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Irene Engle and brothers: Howard Hopson and Herbert Hopson. Norman attended Little Creek Holiness Church, where he loved the Lord and singing and listening to gospel music. He retired from Glen Raven Mills and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to everyone. He loved to use his hands and work on small engines. He also loved to fish and tie his own flies.

    Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 58 years, Nadine Lewis Hopson; daughters: Sandra Gregory and husband, Ronnie, of Burnsville, Donna Harrison and husband, Mark, also of Burnsville and Norma Hopson of the home; son, Forrest Hopson also of the home; brothers: Harley Hopson of TN, Carl Hopson of AL, Clifton Hopson of AL; sisters: Charlene Hensley of Burnsville, Francis Whitson of Green Mountain and Shirley Peterson of Burnsville; grandchildren: Brandon and Jeremy Gregory, David Bailey and wife, Kendra, and Emily Harrison all of Burnsville; special friend, Ted Cannon. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 12th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Brothers Dayton Lewis and Lou Franklin will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home. Private burial will follow the services in the Arvil Lewis Cemetery on Little Creek.
