Another Old Settler Gone

Tennessee Franklin Lusk was born in Elizabethton, Carter County, Tennessee, June 22nd, 1861, the son of Samuel and Sarah Lusk. His father having died during his early infancy, he was left with his widowed mother until he came to manhood when he was united in marriage to Margaret Emma Bayless at Elizabethton, Tenn., December 28, 1882.
To this union were born ten children, seven sons and three daughters. Anna who came with her parents to Melvern, Kansas in the spring of 1884 and took her daparture(sic) from this life at the early age of seventeen months; Grover C. of Max, Nebraska; John S. of Topeka, Kan.; Edward B. of Collins, Mo. who preceded his father in death February 1923; Sara E. who died August 1923; James C. of Manhattan, Kan. and T. F. Jr. who preceded his father in death at the recent date of December 18th 1923; Howard B. of Lyndon, Kan., and Howell B. of Waverly, Kan., and baby Helen, who died in early infancy.
He with the family resided vicinity of Melvern until the yerr(sic) 1900 when he purchased the farm home near Olivet where he has resided until his death, January 3 1924, at 12:30 p. m. aged 62 years aged 62 years 6 months 12 days.
As a husband he was devoted; as a father, loving; and as a neighbor and friend, ever ready to aid and comfort in the hour of greatest need. Besise(sic) his widow and their wives and the twelve grand children, he leaves to mourn his loss a host of other relatives and friends.
While his spirit has gone to his God who gave it, his body we must commit to the tomb to await the resurrection morn.
His memory will live on and on in the lives of family and friends.
He was a charter member of the Modern Woodmen Lodge at Melvern, and took a transfer to Olivet when moving to that vicinity. In 1923 he was appointed County Commisioner of this, the Third district, to succeed Mr. Marion Smith, deceased, and was compelled to resign a short time before is death.
Funeral serviced were conducted by Rev. E. T. Lacey from the Methodist church, Melvern, and interment made in the Melvern cemetery, Saturday Jan. 5th.

Tennessee married Martha Emma Bayless on 28 Dec 1882 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Martha was born on 3 Jul 1862 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 6 Dec 1937 in Osage County, , , Kansas; was buried in Melvern Cemetery, , Osage County, Kansas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
