PROMINENT CITIZEN OF ROAN MOUNTAIN, E. F. HEATON, DIES
E. F. "Lige" Heaton, prominent Roan Mountain citizen died at Duke Hospital, Durham, North Carolina, last night at approximately eight o'clock. Several members of his family were there when death came.
Mr. Heaton was a member of the County Court and vice-president of the REA Mountain Electric Company. He had previously served as a magistrate for several years, and also was a member of the school board for four years.
Mr. Heaton was a member of the Methodist Church. He had served as treasurer of the Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge for a long period of time and was an active member of the Roan Mountain Citizens Club.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Heaton; seven sons, James of Minneapolis, North Carolina, Frank, Harry, Edward, Bill, Robert and Paul, all of Roan Mountain; four daughters, Mrs. Bill Oxidine, Mrs. Wayne Hitechew, Mrs. Carrol Gray and Miss Betty Sue Heaton.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body was brought from Durham last night by the Roy Hathaway Funeral Home.

E. F. HEATON DIES AT DUKE HOSPITAL
When E. F. Heaton, 59, died on Saturday, Nov. 4, Roan Mountain community and this entire section lost its "Number One" citizen, as there had been few forward looking plans or projects developed in the section which had not been first thought of or aided by this business man and resident.
As a member of the county court for the past eighteen years, he rendered invaluable service to his community as well as to the section at large.
Mr. Heaton died at Duke Hospital on Saturday evening after an illness of several weeks.
He was a native of Carter county, had been in business in Roan Mountain for the past thirty years and for a number of years he was associated with W. O. Hampton in the business firm of Hampton and Heaton. Prior to that he was superintendent of the Sanford and Treadway Lumber Company in North Carolina. He was vice president of Mountain Electric Cooperative. He had served as treasurer of the Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge for many years, and was an active member of the Roan Mountain Citizens' Club, and had been a member of the Carter County Court for the past 18 years. He also had been a member of the School Board for four years.
He was a member of the Roan Mountain Methodist Church and had been the Sunday School Superintendent for the past 25 years.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Hazel Pritchard Heaton; seven sons, James of Minneapolis, Frank, Harry, Ed, Billy, Robert and Paul, all of Roan Mountain; four daughters, Mrs. William Oxendine, Mrs. Wayne Hitechew, Mrs. Carroll Gray, and Miss Betty Sue Heaton, all of Roan Mountain; ten grandchildren; one brother, S. B. Heaton of Roan Mountain; three sisters, Mrs. Frank McKinney of Cranberry, Mrs. Albert Tucker of Huntington, W. Va. and Mrs. W. A. Crumley of Elizabethton.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday afternoon Nov. 7 at 2 o'clock from the Roan Mountain Methodist Church, with Rev. James Walters, Rev. John J. Walters and Rev. Harry Leonard officiating.
Burial was made in the Roan Mountain Cemetery.
