    McDonald Slemp, age 89, of Mountain City, passed away Wednesday, February 06, 2008 in Johnson City Medical Center.
    Mr. Slemp was born on May 24, 1918 in Johnson County to the late Charlie F. and Nettie Arney Slemp. He was a truck driver for many years and retired from Tri-State Growers. He liked to farm and garden. He was a member of Vaughts Gap Baptist Church.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Elsie Mercer, Venie Wilson and Clydie Bear; brother, Orville Slemp; and a son-in-law, Jim Rupard.
    Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Ruby Perkins Slemp; three daughters, Linda Rupard of Winston-Salem, NC, Karen Icenhour and husband Tom of Mountain City and Donna L. West and husband Dr. Mike West of Knoxville; two sons, Buddy Slemp of Lexington, NC and Jack Slemp and wife Olive, of Lexington, NC; sister, Elizabeth Gentry of Mountain City; grandchildren, Chris, Alisa, Billy, Michael, Debbie and Frankie; great grandchildren, Thomas, Matthew, Kelsey, Brandy, T. C., Billy, Jr. "Bubba", Katelyn, Rhea, Brian, Megan and Courtney; and several nieces and nephews.
    The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 8, 2008 at Mountain City Funeral Home with the service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Frank Johnson and Bro. Bruce Simcox officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Chris Icenhour, Charles Mercer, Pat Conville, Jody Hawkins, Curtis Gentry, Mike West, Nick Perkins, Ronnie Perkins and Terry Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Icenhour, John Perkins, Steve Courtner and the Johnson County Rescue Squad. Music will be provided by Joe Simcox.

    McDonald married Ruby H. Perkins about 1940 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee. Ruby (daughter of Rosco Perkins and Pearl Alice Potter) was born on 30 Jan 1921 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee; died on 19 May 2013 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Sunset Memorial Park, , Johnson County, Tennessee.     Notes:

    Billy Gene "Buddy" Slemp, Sr., of Lexington, NC passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. He was born on October 1, 1939 to the late McDonald Slemp and Ruby Perkins Slemp. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Cole Slemp, and a sister, Linda Rupard.

    Buddy was a sweet and loving man. He retired as a truck driver after driving for 47 years.

    Survivors include his wife, Betty Davis Slemp; sons: Billy Gene Slemp, Jr. of Bolt, West Virginia and Carl Franklin Slemp of Lexington, NC; sisters: Donna West and husband Mike, Karen Icenhour and husband Tom; brother, Jack Slemp and wife Olive; fifteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Friday, April 21, 2017 from the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Mac Arnold officiating. Graveside service and interment will follow in the Hodge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Danny Grindstaff, Dennis Tester, Steve Hodge, Jimmy Tester, Jack Arnold, Johnny Arnold and Keith Main. Honorary pallbearers will be Sidney Main, Jackie Ward, and Des Ward. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 prior to the funeral service.
