Lavelle Hopson Gourley Fair, 90, of Blaine, Tenn., formerly of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018, at RidgeView Terrace of Life Care, Rutledge, Tenn.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Walter E. and Elsie Pleasant Hopson.
Lavelle was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and attended Carson-Newman College. She was a homemaker.
Lavelle was a member and former organist at East River Park Christian Church. She attended Buffalo Springs Baptist Church in Blaine, Tenn.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Lewis Gourley, a Baptist minister, who passed away August 6, 1987; her second husband, Grady Fair, who passed away September 1, 2016; and a brother, Eugene Hopson.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Karen Gourley and Richard and Cathy Gourley, all of Rutledge, Tenn., six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for Lavelle Hopson Gourley Fair will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 6, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. John H. Smith, minister, officiating. Interment will follow the service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Linda Ann Pleasant Cole, 79, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2021 after an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Hansel & Patsy Pleasant. She was raised by her aunt, Miss Flossie Pleasant.

She was a 1959 graduate of Elizabethton High School. Linda was a Licensed Practical Nurse for 40 years. She was employed at the Carter County Memorial Hospital, the nursing department of NARC and retired from Life Care Center of Elizabethton. She was of the Baptist Faith. Linda was a homemaker, she loved working in her flowers, yard work and crafts. She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Cole who passed away January 19, 2020 and by a brother: Master Sgt. US Air Force, James Ronnie Pleasant who passed away in December 2006.

Survivors include her children: Shelby Cole (Doug) Rasnick, Barbara (Scott) Curtis and Christy Simerly (Rick Barker). One Granddaughter; Hannah Simerly (Caleb) Marshall.

Graveside Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2021 in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery with Dr. Kenneth Jordan and her son-in-law, Doug Rasnick officiating. Burial will follow the service. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Thursday will be: Doug Rasnick, Rick Barker, Caleb Marshall, Josh Rasnick, Eli Rasnick and Scott Curtis.

Robert Michael (Mike) Pleasant, 69, of Telford, passed away October 12, 2022, at his home. Mike was born in Sullivan County and his family moved to Rockford, IL when he was about two years old. He returned to the Tri-Cities area in his early twenties. Mike was a member of the Army Reserves. He worked for Tri-City Towel & Linen before becoming a farmer in 1987, in Washington County. Mike was a caring person and always ready to help someone in need. He enjoyed working on antique cars, working on the farm, watching NASCAR races, and traveling, especially out west.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, James Hancel and Edith Estep Pleasant; brother, Rick Pleasant; sister, Lesia Pleasant; aunt, Helen Carpenter; and special cousin, Teresa Carpenter.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Pleasant; brothers-in-law Ralph Horne of Greeneville and Fred (Jane) Horne, of Kingsport; sisters-in-law Neta (Steve) Vance, Margie Larkins, both of Kingsport, Stacey Overbay, of Lake Junaluska, NC; cousins, Cindy Carpenter of Kingsport, Jeff & Robin Carpenter of Fall Branch; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at Emory United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Roberta Simerly, 86, Johnson City, passed away Monday, April 2, 2018, at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol. A native of Butler, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. Wolfe Sr. and Jennie Eggers Wolfe.
In addition to her parents, Roberta was preceded in death by her first husband, Glen G. Curtis, in 1961; her second husband, Fred W. Simerly, in 2013; her sisters, Verna Lee Depau, Mary Smith and Burl Honeycutt; and her brother, H.E. Wolfe Jr.
Roberta was a member of First Christian Church and attended Wyn-A-Coupla Sunday School Class until her health prevented her from going. Roberta was also a member of the Johnson City Women's Club and the Monday Club. She served on the board of the Johnson City Symphony and the Atlanta Symphony as Fundraising Chairperson. Roberta was active in the Emmaus Community for a number of years. She and her late husband Fred were dedicated supporters of Milligan College. Roberta was a former President of the News and Neighbor League Club in Atlanta. She was a former manager of Sharon Luggage in Charlotte. She had also worked for the Prescription Shop Drug Stores in Johnson City and the Atlanta Merchandise Mart.
Her greatest day was the day she gave her life completely to the Lord. She liked playing bridge, but Roberta mostly enjoyed watching her great-granddaughter sing and dance.
Those left to cherish Roberta's memory include her daughter, Vikki Kaleel and husband Steve, Jonesborough; a son, Todd Eldridge Simerly, Plymouth, Calif.; a granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Fraundorf and husband Samuel, Atlanta, Ga.; her great-granddaughter, Avery Elizabeth Fraundorf; her sisters, Clara Scalf, Charlotte Lewis Bliss and Voleen Fletcher, all of Elizabethton, and Elizabeth Wheat and husband Joe of Nashville; her brother-in-law, Bobby Gene Simerly and wife Sara; and special niece, Glenda Britt, Chicago, Ill. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will greet friends to share memories on Thursday, April 5, from 11 a.m. until a Celebration of Roberta's Life at 12 p.m. at First Christian Church, Johnson City, with Mr. Ethan Magness, minister, Dr. Eddie Fine, minister, Mr. Gene Wiggington, minister, and Mr. Donald Mushayamunda, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mike Imboden. An entombment will be held in the Mausoleum Chapel of Happy Valley Memorial Park following the service at the church. Active pallbearers will be Danny Fletcher, Randy Watkins, Rusty Lewis, Grayson Leake, Grant Leake and Jay Dugger. Honorary pallbearers are Martha Gouge, Missy Humphreys, Janene Allen, Lucy McPherson, Betty Anderson and Roberta Redman. Roberta's family would like to offer a special thank you to Melissa Leake, her sweet niece, Sherry Williams, Debi Camden, Carol Dubay, Helen Harrison, Christine Bales, Laura Vanderkrol, Teresa Davis, and the staff of Wellmont Hospice House.

ELIZABETHTON - Clara Emily (Wolfe) Scalf, age 89, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at her home. Clara was born in Elizabethton to the late Harry and Jennie (Eggers) Wolfe. In addition to her parents, Clara was also preceded in death by her son, Gary Scalf; a daughter, Debbie Scott; a grandson, Vince Little; four sisters; and one brother.

Clara had worked for Levi Strauss & Company for 30 years and was a member of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. She loved gardening and was a wonderful and kind woman, who will be dearly missed.

Those left to remember and cherish Clara’s memory include three daughters, Jackie (Dennis) Granger of Elizabethton, Sandy Scalf of Lynchburg, VA and Bregayle Scalf of the home; three granddaughters, Jennifer (Jon) Cox of Massachusetts, Jessica (Troy) Durham of North Carolina and Amber (Mark) Doss of Lynchburg, VA; five grandsons, Gary Scalf of Elizabethton, Shannon Warren of Mountain City, Chris Clark and Jeremy Bledsoe both of Lynchburg, VA and Shawn Little of Elizabethton; twelve great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and three sisters, Charlotte Bliss and Voleen Fletcher both of Elizabethton and Elizabeth (Joe) Wheat of Stewart, TN.

A celebration of Clara’s life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 4, 2023 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Reverend Nick Colbaugh officiating. Music will be under the direction of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Saturday or at the residence at other times.

The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Clara’s grandsons: Isaac Blankenship, Conner Denson, Jeremy Bledsoe, Shannon Warren, Shaun Little, Gary Scalf, Chris Clark and Ryland Cox.
