    Notes:

    Helen H. Deloach, 82, Cambridge Avenue, Elizabethton, died unexpectedly,
    Friday, January 21, 2005, at Johnson City Medical Center.

    Mrs. Deloach was born in Washington County and had lived in Carter County most
    of her life. She was the daughter of the late Will Hamby and Maude M. Matheson
    Grindstaff and step-daughter of Jess Grindstaff. She was also preceded in
    death by her husband, John "Walter" Deloach, December 6, 1991, and two
    brothers, Leroy and Bobby Grindstaff.

    Mrs. Deloach was a member of Little Milligan Baptist Church but attended Roan
    Street Free Will Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of North American
    Rayon Corporation.

    Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Anna Jeanette and James Andrew
    Whaley, Elizabethton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lilly Bell Jones,
    Elizabethton, and Mildred Earlene and Lynn Greene, Jonesborough; two brothers
    and sisters-in-law, Andrew "Andy" and Geraldine Grindstaff and Fred and Brenda
    Grindstaff, all of Elizabethton; and two additional sisters-in-law, Lena
    Grindstaff, Surgoinsville, and Margaret Grindstaff, Elizabethton. Several
    nieces and nephews also survive.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, January 24, in the Chapel
    of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Stockton, Rev. Ronnie Campbell
    and Rev. Rick Price officiating. Music will be under the direction of Rev.
    Ronnie Campbell. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday,
    January 25, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at
    the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. Active
    pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers
    will be friends and neighbors and the doctors and nursing staff of Johnson
    City Medical Center. Those planning to attend the graveside service are asked
    to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the
    cemetery.

    Andrew J. "Andy" Grindstaff, 74, of Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. Andy was a native of Butler, Tennessee, and had lived most of his life in Elizabethton. He was the son of the late Jesse and Maude Matheson Grindstaff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Leroy Grindstaff, Bobby Grindstaff and Fred Grindstaff; three sisters, Helen Deloach, Earline Greene and Lily Jones; a sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Paul Hampton; brothers-in-law, Bill Ward and Conley Bullock; and father and mother-in-law, John and Alice Hodge. Mr. Grindstaff was a veteran of the United States Army from 1963-1965, serving nineteen months in Alaska. He was a retired millwright of North American Rayon Corporation. He was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church and had attended Valley Forge Christian Church for many years. He was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge #750, York Rite, Elizabethton Shrine Club and a faithful Charter Member of Jericho Shrine, and a member of Royal Jester Court #183, a 10th Degree Master Mason and very faithful member of the Jericho Paper Drive. Survivors include his wife, Geraldean Hodge Grindstaff; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin Andrew and Heather Grindstaff; sisters-in-law, Brenda Grindstaff, Margaret Grindstaff, Lois Ward, Glenna Bullock, Carol and "Blue" Treadway and Johnnie and Raymond Holtsclaw; and a close friend, Norma Williams. Several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and a host of special cousins and friends also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Grindstaff will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Sunday, October 6, 2013, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. David Siebenaler, Minister, and Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Honors will be accorded by the Jericho Oriental Band. Masonic services will be held under the direction of Howard Ensor. Music will be under the direction of Jeff Sharpe. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Sunday. The graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Monday, October 7, 2013, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Music at the graveside service will be under the direction of Jericho Highlanders. Active pallbearers will be John Matheson, Jim Matheson, Larry McKinney, Harold Fellers, Ron Bergquist, Charlie Fellers, George Hodges and James Norris. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Holtsclaw, Rowe Carr, Terry Tester, John McGee, J.L. Blackwell, Jeff Lyons, Floyd Campbell, Larry White, Hugh Pickle, Norman Lyons, Charlie Hodge, Robert "Bobby" Barnes, Ralph Wright and all present and former members of Jericho Oriental Band and Jericho Nobility. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:45 PM on Monday, to go in procession. The family would like to express a special "thank you" to the entire staff at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to The Shriner's Hospital for Children, The Jericho Transportation Fund, Poplar Grove Baptist Church or Valley Forge Christian Church.

    Anna Jeanette Whaley - ELIZABETHTON
    Anna Jeanette Whaley, age 66, 816 Cambridge Ave., Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord Monday, October 20, 2008, from Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness.

    She was born in Carter County to the late John Walter and Helen Hamby Deloach. Mrs. Whaley was a member of the Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church and its Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing in her spare time.

    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whaley was preceded in death by three aunts: Lillie Jones, Mildred Greene and Laura Colbaugh; and four uncles: LeRoy and Bobby Grindstaff, Bo Colbaugh and James H. Deloach.

    Survivors include her husband of forty-six years, Sgt. First Class James A. Whaley, Ret., US Army, of the home; special cousin, Loretta Fitzgerald, Johnson City; other cousins: John Martin Deloach, CA, Darrell Deloach, NC; three sisters-in-law: Edith Watson and husband, Bob, Butler, Dorothy Deaton and husband, Johnny, Sneed, FL, Mary Stout and husband, Paul, Indianapolis, IN; aunts and uncles: Lena and R.L. Nave, Andy and Geraldine Grindstaff, Fred and Brenda Grindstaff, all of Elizabethton, and Lena Grindstaff, Surgoinsville, TN; and five nephews: Larry White, Kevin Grindstaff, Michael Grindstaff, David Grindstaff and Alan Grindstaff.

    The funeral for Mrs. Whaley will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, October 23, in the Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Rev. Ray Stockton and Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Music will be under the direction of Rev. Ronnie Campbell. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence at other times.

    The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, October 24, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone is welcome to meet the family at 10:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
