James Douglas Ellis, 69, of US Highway 19-E, Minneapolis, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008 at his residence.
A native of Avery County he was a son of the late Clark R. and Maxine Eller Ellis. Mr. Ellis was retired from the United States Army as a Sergeant First Class after 22 years of service to his country.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed the holidays and spending time with his family. Jim liked to fish and collecting eagles. He was known for his warm and welcoming demeanor, and was a man who never met a stranger.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Ellis of the home; daughter, Leisa Ellis, of Elk Park and her fiancé John Kiser; son, Doug Ellis, and his wife, Kelly, of Morganton; granddaughter, Chealssea Morris of Elk Park; sisters, Frances Potter of Maryland, Jan Lewis of Elk Park; brother, John Ellis of Elk Park; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for James Douglas Ellis will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 14, from the Heaton Christian Church, of which he was a member, with Gary Edwards, David Ellis, and Jason Simpkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Monday evening at the church.
Family, friends, and pallbearers will gather at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Elk Park Cemetery for graveside services. Serving as pallbearers will be: Doug Ellis, John Ellis, David Ellis, Sam Eller, J.B. Potter, John Kiser, Gary Edwards, and Johnny Wayne Hughes.

James married Betty Joanne Buchanan on 6 Apr 1958 in , Avery County, North Carolina, . Betty (daughter of Howard Wilson Buchanan and Odee Lewis) was born on 28 Nov 1940 in , Avery County, North Carolina, ; died on 12 Sep 2021 in Unicoi County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Elk Park Cemetery, , Avery County, North County. John Wesley Ellis, age 62, of Elk Park passed away on February 24, 2018, at Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Avery County , he was born March 13, 1955, a son of the late Clark and Maxine Eller Ellis.

John was a member of Heaton Christian Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, sports and fishing. John will be greatly missed my his family and the community.

Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his: Brother: Jim Ellis

John has left to cherish his memory his Daughter: Shanna Houston of Elk Park, North Carolina; Son: John Ellis V of Elk Park, North Carolina; Grandson: Cash Houston of Elk Park, North Carolina; Sister Jan (Dennis) Lewis of Elk Park, NC; Frances Potter of Maryland, and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018, at Heaton Christian Church. A celebration of life followed at 7 p.m.
