  1. 1.  John Paul Long was born about 1918 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee; died on 10 Apr 2013 in Washintgon County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Shoun Cemetery, , Johnson County, Tennessee.

    Notes:

    John Paul Long Sr., 95, Butler, went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

    A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Roanzy & Mary Emily Arney Long. He had lived in South Bend, Indiana, for over forty years and was a retired employee of Sibleys Machine Foundry in South Bend.

    Mr. Long had served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was wounded in the Pacific Campaign and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion Post 61, Mountain City, the Johnson County Honor Guard, The Disabled American Veteran Chapter 19, Elkhart, Indiana, and the V.F.W. Post in Elkhart, Indiana.

    Mr. Long was a member and Deacon of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church. He was a volunteer at the Mountain City Health Care for several years. He was a great fisherman.

    In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife: Ruth Viola Wegner, June 6, 1994; by a son, Richard H. Long, who died February 10, 2004; five brothers: Lonnie, Mitchell, Joseph, Hayse and Edward Long; and four sisters: Stella Love, Reba Greene, Elsie Fredericks and Dot Crosswhite.

    Survivors include his wife: Ona Pleasant Long; A Son: John Paul Long Jr. and wife, Anna Marie, Osceola, Indiana; A Step-Daughter: Judy Karen Wagner and husband, Larry, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Five Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren; and 5 Great Great Grandchildren; One Brother: H.R. Long Jr. and wife, Lois, Mountain City; Several Nieces & Nephews.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, in Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Alan Koch and Rev. Terry Ward officiating.

    Private Graveside Services will be conducted Saturday, April 13, 2013, in the Shoun-McEwen Cemetery, Mountain City, with the Johnson County Honor Guard providing Military Honors. Music will be provided by Rev. & Mrs Terry Ward and Mary Etta Long. Active Pallbearers will be: Mark Long, Carl Long, Paul Long, Robby Wagner, Larry Wagner, Darrell Ward, Jamie Ward and Mike Long. Honorary Pallbearers will be: His Church Family, L.B. Raney, Joe Crosswhite, Carter Isaacs, Tom Worley, Truett Pleasant and Bud Crosswhite.

    The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the Staff of Roan Highland Nursing Center, The Doctors and Staff of C-213, James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, the Hospice Staff of the VA Center and a very special Care Giver, Ila Mink.
