ROBINSON FUNERAL RITES TO BE TODAY – Physician, Magistrate Dies Saturday of Double Pneumonia.
Funeral rites for Dr. Nicholas D. Robinson, 78, practicing physician in Carter county for the past 50 years and magistrate in the county court for the past 30 years, will be held this afternoon at the Stoney Creek Baptist church, of which he was a member at 1:30 o'clock.
Dr. Robinson died Saturday morning at the Shoun hospital of double pneumonia. He had been seriously ill for the past two days.

Special Election
Death of Dr. Robinson will necessitate a special election in the tenth
Civil district for his successor as a member of the Carter county court.
Election commission has not had time to determine the date as yet.

addition to serving as a physician, Dr. Robinson took an active part in politics in Carter county, having served as representative to the state legislature from the district for ten years. He was a member of the Carter county court when his life ended.
He was educated at the university of Tennessee, graduating in 1909 and has practiced medicine in Carter and adjoining counties ever since.
Dr. Robinson is survived by his wife and four children, Dr. James D. Robinson, Butler, Mrs. Lillie Pleasant, Doeville, Mrs. Zella Rambo, Johnson City and Jo An[sic] Peters Robinson.
Death of Dr. Robinson, who was prominent and well known throughout the county, came as a district shock to his many friends.
Pallbearers for the funeral will be Dudley Grindstaff, Fayne Grindstaff, Herman Grindstaff, Nick Nidiffer, Paul Peters, Conley Peters. Honorary pallbearers will be fellow physicians of the county, Drs. J. B. Shoun, E. L. Caudill, Joe Bowers, A. R. Collins, Paul E. Williams, Owen Agee, W. G. Frost, R. A. Range, Drs. Rogers, Brading, West, Hawkins and K.P. Banks, Harry Burgis, S. E. Davis.
Flower girls will be Eliza Range, Nina Estep, Lena Buckles, Kate Buckles, Elma Peters, Genieve Range, Gay Fletcher, Lelia Richardson, Bessie White, Lala Peters, Anna Lewis, Mona Cole, Daisy Buckles, Marie Hyder, Mamie Davis, June Peters, Nelia Colbaugh, Edna Grindstaff, Lena Morris, Helen Sheffield, Zola Grindstaff, Norma Culbert, Lula Sheffield.
The Masonic Lodge will be in charge at the cemetery. He was also affiliated with the Junior Order and Daughters of America.
Services at the church will be conducted by the Reverend Paul Roberts, Johnson City, Rev. Authur Roberts, Carter, Reverend Kilgore, Bristol, Reverend Elkins, Carter, and Reverend Brown, Bowers Chattanooga. Interment will be in the family cemetery.

Mrs. Sarah Catherine Stout Trivett, 84, of Butler, Route 3, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Lee Gentry, Thursday at 7:15 a.m. after an illness of several months. She was a member of the Willow Dale Baptist Church.
Survivors are two sons, Clarence Stoute of Garden Grove, California, Emmett Stout, of Fossil, Oregon; three daughters, Mrs. Hanna Grindstaff, Butler, Mrs. Lee Gentry, Butler, Mrs. Millison Stout of Mountain City; three brothers; Jessie Grindstaff, Johnson City; Gusta and Dudley Grindstaff, both of Elizabethton; one sister, Mrs. Tishia Wagner of Elizabethton; ten
grandchildren and fourteen great grand-children and many nieces and nephews.
Lewis Gentry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services for
Sarah Katherine Stout Trivett will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. from the
Cobbs Creek Baptist church. Officiating will be Rev. J.J. Richardson and Rev.
W.W. Ward. Burial will be made in the Grindstaff Cemetery. Pallbearers are:
Dudley Wagner, Curtis Grindstaff, Little Dudley Grindstaff, Hickory
Grindstaff, Bob Grindstaff, Tom Lawrence. Flower bearers will be selected

Mrs. Jessee was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation where she was employed for several years. She was a member of the Siam Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Lawrence Campbell who died in 1967, her former husband Thomas Clyde Jessee, a son: Dean Campbell, A Grandson: David Montgomery, a son-in-law: Jack Montgomery, Two Sisters: Ora Hardin and Leona Hipps Nave and Two Brothers: Winford and Gatha Campbell.

Survivors include a daughter; Charlotte Campbell Montgomery, Elizabethton. Two Grandchildren: Dani Sue Thompson and her husband Cory, Murfreesboro and Deanna Davis and husband Wesley, Cameron, NC. A service was held Dec. 16 at the Unger Funeral Chapel in Silverton.

Mr. Shoun was born on Aug. 25, 1914, in Elizabethton, Tenn., where he met and married Grace Shankle in 1940. They were together for 58 years until her death in 1998. They moved to John Day in 1947. Mr. Shoun worked as a ranch hand until he went to work for Blue Mountain Sawmill. He was injured in a work related accident and became disabled in 1962.

His favorite pastime was spending time with his family.

Survivors include his two daughters, Gilda Farrell of Silverton and Reainnella Moffat of Molalla; two sons, Dallas Shoun of John Day and Robert Shoun of Florence; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and three sisters.

Contributions can be made to Mt. Angel Towers or Willamette Valley Hospice.

ELIZABETHTON - Charlotte “Teatle” Smith, 95, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at the Hillview Health Center of Elizabethton. Charlotte was born in Johnson County, Tennessee to the late Seth and Ethel Allen Robinson. In addition to her parents, Charlotte was also preceded in death by her husband, James Dick Smith.

Charlotte had been employed as a nurse assistant in a local nursing home and was a lifelong member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish Charlotte’s memory include two nieces, Anna Ruth Pierce of Elizabethton and Frances Stoneburner of Ocean City, Maryland; and two nephews, Dean Robinson of Elizabethton and Vernon Robinson of Jefferson, Maryland. Several great nieces and great nephews also survive.

A celebration of Charlotte’s life will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 21, 2021 in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home Elizabethton with Reverend Kenneth Jordan and Reverend David Foster officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Saturday.

The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Evelyn Estep Taylor, 83, Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011, in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an exteded illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late George H. Estep, Sr. and Bessie Noris Estep. Evelyn was a former employee of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and for several years was associated with her husband in the operation of J. N. Taylor Grocery Store. She was a member of the Moores Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, J. N. Taylor; a daughter, Sue Nave; a son, Dwight Nave; a sister, Grace Estep and two brothers, Porter and N. D. Estep. Survivors include four brothers and sisters-in-law, George H. Estep, Jr. and wife Betty Jo, Paul and Maxine Estep and Lee Edwin and Gaye Estep, all of Elizabethton, and Huey and Lydia Estep, Arcadia, California; a sister-in-law, Johnie Estep, Elizabethton; a grandson, Patrick Nave; several nieces and nephews; two step-daughters, Lana Diane Garrison, Watauga and Deloras "Cissy" Campbell, Elizabethton; six step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2011, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Chris Hughes officiating. Internment will follow in the Estep Family Cemetery. Music will be provided by David Estep, organist; Debbie Gouge, soloist; Chris Hughes, soloist; and David Batchelder, trumpeter. Pallbearers will be nephews. George H. Estep, Jr., 81, Elizabethton passed away Sunday, September 15, 2013 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a lengthy illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late George H. Estep, Sr. and Bessie Norris Estep. He was a retired farmer and [retired from] North American Rayon Corporation. "Junior" served as a Water Commissioner of the First Utility District. He operated Stoney Creek Bus Line for a number of years. Junior was a member of the Dungan Chapel Baptist Church. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years: Betty Jo Bishop Estep, two sisters: Evelyn Taylor and Grace Estep and three brothers: Porter, N D & Paul Estep. Survivors include three sons & daughters-in-law: Mike & Karen Estep, Jeff & Sharon Estep and David & Becky Estep. Seven grandchildren: Mike Estep, Jr., Brandon Estep, Kristi Hyder, Ethan Estep, Josh Estep, Jacob Estep and Christopher Estep. Six great grandchildren: Damon Estep, Bryston Estep, Drake Estep, Madelynn Estep, Carson Estep and Trevor Hyder. Paul E. Estep 78, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2011, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late George H. Estep, Sr. and
Bessie Norris Estep. He attended Unaka High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Paul was co-owner of Memorial Funeral Chapel that opened in August 1972. In 2004, he was recognized by the Tennessee Funeral Directors Association for 50 years of service in the funeral business. He was on the Board of Directors of Elizabethton Federal Savings Bank. He was a member of the following organizations: Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238, A 32nd Degree Mason, The American Legion Post Watauga 49 and the Sycamore Chapter #163, Order of Eastern Star.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters: Grace Estep and Evelyn Taylor; and two brothers: Porter and N D; a niece: Sue Nave; and a nephew: Dwight Nave.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years: Ola Maxine Elliott Estep; two daughters: Kim Estep Wright and husband, Jeff, and Jill Estep Cooper and husband, Art, all of Johnson City; three grandchildren: Chris Wright and wife, Jennifer, Jordan Wright and Whitney Wright; four great grandchildren; three brothers: Lee Edwin Estep and wife, Gay, and George H. ELIZABETHTON - Lee Edwin Estep, 84, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late George H. & Bessie Norris Estep. He was a graduate of Unaka High School. Lee was a retired employee of Nuclear Fuel after 40 years of service. He was also employed with Oil & Chemical Atomic Union of Unicoi. He loved working with wood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers: Paul, George Jr., Porter, N.D. and Huey Estep and two sisters: Evelyn Taylor and Grace Estep. Lee was a member of Valley Forge Christian Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years: Gay Finney Estep. We were blessed with a special son whom he adored, Matthew Estep, Other survivors include a daughter: Robin (Keith) Elliott. Two Grandchildren: Valorie Elliott Parrish and Joshua Elliott. Three Nieces including a special niece Kim Wright, Seven Nephews and several cousins .His brother-in-law: Larry Finney. She was born January 26, 1927 to the late Fleenor Norris and Lottie Robinson Norris. She enjoyed canning, singing and puzzle books. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Coolidge Allen in 2001; one son: Jim Edward Allen; two sisters: Lela Norris and Tressie Holden; one brother: Herrin Norris and two granddaughters: Aimee Loss and Ashley Allen

A Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Cobbs Creek Church with visitation starting at 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm, and the Eulogy starting at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cobbs Creek Church. (As per her wishes, dress is to be casual, mom wasn’t into fancy.)
