    He was the son of the late Carlie William and Rosia Lee Vines Hartley. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel "Lottie" Hartley, a brother, L.D. Hartley, and an uncle, Dana Hartley.

    Mr. Hartley was a member of Meadowview Baptist Church.

    He was an employee of the Carter County Sheriff's Department and also served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict.

    Funeral services was conducted at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Mar 21, 1999 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel.

    Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 22, 1999 at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

    Mr. Dewey Lee “Gomer” Hartley, age 69, of Elizabethton “walked” home to be with his Lord Saturday, October 24, 2015 from Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Carlee William and Rosalee Vines Hartley. He was a retired employee of Snap-On-Tools and he was of the Baptist faith. “Gomer” loved playing music with his friends and enjoyed listening to blue grass music. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, L. D. Hartley and Jessie Hartley and a sister, Maxine Whaley. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Hartley, of the home; three daughters, Norma Garrison and husband Mark, Elizabethton; Lorie Canter and husband David, Johnson City and Glinia Creasey and husband Doug, Elizabethton; grandchildren, Matthew Canter, Jacob Garrison, Kaylee Garrison, Kristen Creasey and Joshua Creasey; brothers, R. L. Hartley, Dennis Hartley, Gene Hartley and Carroll Hartley; sisters, Cindy Phillips, Hazel Clawson and Lucille Gardner and a special sister-in-law, Wanda Buckles. Several nieces and nephews and his loyal companion “Molly” also survive.

    A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life of Mr. Dewey Lee “Gomer” Hartley will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 28, 2015 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Howard Estep, Rev. Ronnie Campbell and Rev. Buddy Street officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday prior to the service or at the residence at other times.

    Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, October 29, 2015 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be June Andrews, Gary Cable, Dale Guinn, Bobby Guinn, Shane Guinn and Ken Carter.

    Hugh Gene Hartley, 69, Poga, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at the James H. Quillen Va Medical Center.
    A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Carl and Rosalee Vines Hartley.
    Gene served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a retired construction worker. He was a member and Deacon of Elk Mills Christian Church. He loved to watch Westerns.
    Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Lisha Clawson Hartley; his children, Timothy (Tina) Hartley and Kimberly Hartley and son-in-law Derek Garton; five grandchildren, Brittany, Phillip, Timmy, Faith and Abigail, and the love of his life, his great-grandson, Nehemiah; his brothers, Dennis, R.L. and Carroll Hartley; two sisters, Hazel and Lucille; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 28, at the Elk Mills Christian Church with Mr. Glen Foster, minister, and Mr. Donnie Cable, minister, officiating. Music will be provided by the church family. Interment will follow in the Cable Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jody Hartley, Cody Hartley, Blake Dugger, Timmy Hartley, Phillip Marvel and Bobby Hartley. Honorary pallbearers will be Carroll Garland Sr., Carroll Garland Jr., Todd Trivette, Derek Garton, Gary Guy and his church family.

    Stella B. Isaacs, 75, of Hickory, NC, formerly of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, on Friday, December 23, 2016, in the Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton, NC. She was the daughter of the late Zeno and Georgia Mae Vines Black and was born in Carter County, TN. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie ?G.W.? Isaacs, a daughter, two sons and a brother.

    Mrs. Isaacs loved to crochet and she made quilts, as well as breeding and raising poodles. She was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church in Hickory, NC and was retired from Regal Manufacturing in Hickory, where she worked for twenty-seven years.

    Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Roger Isaacs and Josh Isaacs, both of Newton, NC; several grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Bunton, Elizabethton; and three brothers, Zeno Black, Jr. and his wife, Teresa; Jim Black, and Danny Black, all of Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A service to honor the life of Stella B. Isaacs will be conducted at 7:00 PM, on Monday, December 26, 2016, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Richard Jones officiating. Music will be under the direction of The Sounds of Victory and Teresa Black. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 ? 7:00 PM on Monday prior to the service.

    The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM, on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, in the Whitehead Cemetery in Butler, TN. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Born July 6, 1943, in Roan Mt., Tenn., he was the son of the late Zeno and Georgia Mae Vines Black. Mr. Black is survived by his wife, Vina Ruff Black; four sons, Eric Black, Bill Watkins, Randy Watkins, Larry Wike; two daughters, Jenny Black, Linda Wike; three brothers, Zeno Black Jr., Danny Black, Jim Black; two sisters, Stella Issac, Carolyn Bunton; two granddaughters; three nieces and eight nephews. The funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at Smarts Grove Baptist Church, with the Pastor Charles Lewis officiating. Burial will be at noon on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, in Gunter Family Cemetery in Whittier.

    ELIZABETHTON - Carolyn Bunton, age 75 of Elizabethton, TN, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 5, 2023, at the Franklin Woods Hospital in Johnson City. She was born Sept 4, 1947 to Zeno and Georgia Mae (Vines) Black on Lower Elk. She graduated from Cloudland High School in 1967.

    She accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior in 1983. She was a faithful member of Meadowview Baptist Church.

    Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother, and father, her brothers Jerry and Jim and sister Stella.

    Left to grieve and cherish her memories are husband JR.; Son Billy Darren and wife Sharon of La Vernia, Tx.; daughter Tina and husband Gary Hodge of Butler, Tn.; brothers Zeno Jr. and wife Teresa Black and Danny Black of Roan Mtn, Tn.; brothers-in-law Delmas and wife Lennis Bunton of Butler, Tn. George and wife Velma Bunton of Butler, Tn.; sister-in-law Lorean and Billy Pearson of Elizabethton, Tn.; granddaughters Victoria Newcomb of Tucson, Az, Hunter and Kylee Bunton of La Vernia, Tx., Emma Hodge of Butler, Tn., sisters Bessie Moffitt, Jackie Wiseman and Alma Jones and her church family. Grand-dogs Poppy and TJ of La Vernia, Tx.

    Visitation will be held at Mountain City Funeral Home from 5-7 PM on Monday, the 8th of May. Service will begin at 7PM. with Preachers Rev Richard Jones and Rev Dr. Alan King to officiate. Burial with Graveside service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, the 9th of May at the Bunton Family Cemetery in Buntontown, Tn. Pallbearers will be Terry Moffitt, George Moffitt, Bob Ward, Marshall Estep, Mike Blevins, Matthew Blevins, Steve Elks, and Lowell Trivette.
