    Notes:

    DAMASCUS, Va. '97 Mary Ellen Eggers Widener, 95, Damascus, Virginia (Taylors Valley Community), passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at the residence of her son, Walter J. Widener, after an extended illness.

    A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Walter B. & Lillie Stalcup Eggers. She was a graduate of the Gastonia High School, Gastonia, North Carolina.

    Mrs. Widener had operated Widener's Grocery in Taylors Valley for a number of years. She was the oldest member of the Taylors Valley Christian Church.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence B. Widener; and a granddaughter, Amy Rice.

    Survivors include One Daughter: Patsy Rice, Kernersville, North Carolina; Two Sons: Walter Joe Widener and wife, Mary, and Clarence Edward Widener, all of Damascus; Four Grandchildren: Valorie Widener, Damascus, Rhonda Cardwell and husband Kent, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Maurice Widener and wife, Pat, Laurel Bloomery, Tn., and Heather McCarthy and husband, Michael, Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Six Great Grandchildren; A Cousin: Martha Stalcup Stout, Butler.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012, in the Mountain City Funeral Home with Mr. Eugene Brockley, Minister, officiating.

    Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Damascus, Virginia. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, will be: John Forrester, Dave Pennington, Calvin Hash, Mark Hash, Buddy Cochran and Stacy Greer. Honorary Pallbearers will be Members of the Taylors Valley Christian Church and Members of the Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren.

    The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the staff of Home Town Hospice, Pat, Teresa, Jessica, Tracy and Dickie, for the excellent care that was given to our mother.
