    JONESBOROUGH - Albert Thomas Hicks, 87, Jonesborough passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 in the James H. Quillen VA. Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Charles Garfield & Ida Ellis Hicks. He had lived in Jonesborough for the past 45 years. Albert served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a retired Welder and was a member of Local 538 Plumbers & Fitters Union, Johnson City. He was a member of Cherokee Baptist Church where he previously had served as Trustee and served on the Cemetery Committee. His hobbies were woodworking and farming. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Florence Jennings and Pauline Elliott and a brother: James Hicks.

    Survivors include his wife of 45 years: Sue Miller Hicks. One sister & brother-in-law: Bonnie Harold Stout, Elizabethton. Two Brothers: Bobby Jack Hicks, Hampton and Harold Hicks, Elizabethton. Several nieces & nephews, he was like a father to them.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Scott Fisher, Minister and Rev. Dwight Hobbs officiating. Entombment Service will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday, August 27, 2016 in the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Ray Don Markland. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 11:20 a.m. Saturday will be: Larry Proffitt, Hershel Scalf, Hammond Stiffey, Mike Blevins, Ronnie Arthur, Harry Ford, Dewayne Hensley and Howard Buchanan. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Danny Bacon, Kyle Earp, Bill Hicks, Joe Delaney, Harold Stout, Jimmy Booth, Tim Broyles and Johnny Slagle. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cherokee Cemetery Fund % Geraldine Greenwell, 507 Meadow Brook Ave., Jonesborough, Tn. 37659 or the Emmer Cemetery $ Joe Carr, 174 Mays Road, Elizabethton, Tn. 37643. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Friends may visit with the family at his residence or the residence of his sister Bonnie Stout, 300 Allen Avenue, Elizabethton. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 11:20 a.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery.

    She was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Wilson; her husband, Coach Harold Stout; her mother, Ida Ellis Hicks; her father, Charles Garfield Hicks; two sisters, Pauline and Florence; and two brothers, James and Albert.
    She is survived by her brothers, Harold Hicks of Elizabethton and Bobbie Jack Hicks (Shirley) of Hampton; her sister-in-law, Sue Hicks; her daughters, Donna Hayes of Nashville, Dena Wilson of Elizabethton, and Paulette Davis (John) of Elizabethton; her step-children, Tony Stout (Lisa) of Bluffton, S.C., and Anlyn Hughes (John) of Springfield; her grandchildren, Landon Chambers (Kristen), Ashly Difatta (Antonio), Corey Whitehead (Beth), and Bruce Perry (Brittany); her step-grandchildren, Kendall Stout and Kailee Stout; her great-grandchildren, Dylan Chambers, Jada and Dylan Whitehead and Antonio Difatta. The family extends special thanks to her dear friend, Sharran Davis.
    A celebration of life service will be held at Grace Baptist Church, 1114 Broad Street, Elizabethton, Tenn., on Saturday, May 19, at 3 p.m. The family will receive visitation at the home, 300 Allen Avenue, Elizabethton, Tenn., anytime. Pastor Travis Tyler and Pastor Scott Fisher will be officiating with music under the direction of Ray Don Markland.

    Bonnie married Harold Stout about 1955 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Harold (son of John Edwards Stout and Lela D.     Notes:

    Harold Dean Hicks, 83, Elizabethton, died peacefully and entered heaven to join his beloved friends and family who preceded him in death, on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Holston Valley Hospital, Kingsport.
    A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Charles Garfield and Ida Belle Ellis Hicks.
    Harold was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and a retired employee of Dixie Battery. He was a member of Borderview Christian Church.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline Elliott, Florence Jennings and Bonnie Stout, and two brothers, James Hicks and Albert Hicks.
    Harold was the family historian, genealogist, and comedian. He had a memory that was razor sharp. Friends and family enjoyed his many tales of growing up in Tin Can Hollow in Elizabethton. He welcomed all who visited his cozy home with a “look who is coming there, get in this house.” He enjoyed reminiscing with his visitors and filling in the gaps of their fading memories.
    He is one of a generation who remained true to his roots and valued his history and his family and friends.
    Survivors include a brother, Bob Hicks and companion, Carolyn Dail, Knoxville. He was a beloved uncle to several nieces and nephews; was surrogate father to many.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 11, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Scott Fisher, minister, officiating. Music will be provided by the Borderview Christian Church. Honorary pallbearers will be his church family, the Harmony Baptist Church Family and his many many friends. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Emmert Cemetery.
