Vivian Ilene Treadway McKee died December 21 at Catawba Regional Hospice after a period of declining health.
Vivian was born in Washington County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late William H. Treadway and Maude Aldridge Treadway.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, L.H. "Mac" McKee; her sisters, Verna T. Howell and Mabel T. Kramer; and a brother, William R. "Billy" Treadway.
Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Gantt and husband, Charles; two granddaughters, Susan G. Reinhardt and husband, Franklin, of Newton, NC, Amy G. Hancock and husband, Marty, of Gastonia, NC; and one grandson, C. Michael Gantt and wife, Angela, of Newton, NC; nine great-grandchildren, Andrew Reinhardt and wife, Claire, of Chapel Hill, NC, Adam Reinhardt, of Hickory, NC, Chase Matson and fiancée, Ali Dvoskin, of Winchester, VA, Nick Matson, of Greensboro, NC, Evan Matson and fiancée, Sydney Starnes, of Newton, NC, Kinsey Matson, of Gastonia, NC, Camryn, Abby, and Anna Gantt, of Newton, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McKee was a graduate of Lamar High School and Johnson City Business College in Tennessee. She was a member of Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church in Newton as well as a Sunday school teacher. She was a homemaker after retiring as office manager of the Cecil H. Jarrett Chemical Co. in Newton, NC.
Vivian, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, loved early morning walks, basketball, bowling and bridge.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks for the help and loving care of Vivian to Norma Huffman, Cathy Whisnant, Suzanne Keever, Jo Ann Harper, Tammy Brooks, and loyal and devoted friend and caregiver, Jane Mays. The family thanks the staff of Catawba Regional Hospice and all EMS personnel. The family also wishes to thank Dr. James Gaither, Cynthia Ferguson, and the owner and staff of Bowman Drug. Their kindness, care, and patience will always be cherished by the family.
Mrs. McKee's service will be held in the chapel of Willis Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton on Tuesday, December 23, at 1:00 p.m. with the family receiving from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. prior to the funeral.
Graveside rites will follow immediately at Eastview Cemetery in Newton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church, Catawba Regional Hospice, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, or the Catawba EMS Hardship Fund.

JONESBOROUGH - Mrs. Evelyn Treadway Bolton, age 94, Jonesborough, passed away Friday, October 7, 2016, at Johnson City Medical Center.

Mrs. Bolton was born in Washington County and daughter of the late John & Lura McGee Treadway. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bolton; sister, Gladys Treadway Allen; and two brothers, John Treadway, Jr. and Dennis Treadway.

She was a member of Union Church of Christ and Jonesborough Chapter #357 OES.

Survivors include a son, David Bolton, Jonesborough; brother, Eugene Treadway, Jonesborough; and several nephews and nieces.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Uncle Gene, cousin Denise, and Dorothy & Kenneth Hughes for their wonderful loving care.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 pm Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Minister Lamar Garrison officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 pm Sunday prior to the service.

Interment services will be conducted 11:00 am Monday, October 10, 2016, at Roselawn Memory Gardens.

Mr. Robert E. Treadway, Jonesborough, age 78, passed away on Thursday September 17, 2015, at Four Oaks Health Care.

Mr. Treadway was a native of Washington County and the son of the late Bennie and Flora Barnes Treadway.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Ruthie Ellen Shelton; brothers, Herbert Treadway and Franklin Treadway.

Mr. Treadway retired from the Washington County School System having worked in the maintenance Department.

He was a Member of Morning Star Baptist Church and former member of Wayland Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Iris Treadway; four sons, Ralph Treadway (Linda), Brian Treadway, Gary Treadway, and Russell Treadway (Cheryl); grandchildren, Randall Treadway, Sarah Treadway, Amanda Berrey (Brandon), Andrew Treadway (Krista), Jennifer Treadway; great-grandchildren, Landon, Cooper, Adam, Emma, Katie Jo, Nicholas, Breanna, Addison, and Madeline; sisters, Francis Deakins, Ruth Shelton (Jerry David), and Irene Shelton (Bill).

Funeral Services for Mr. Treadway will be on Monday September 21, 2015, 8:00 PM at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Miller officiating.

Betty Ruth Treadway Tester, age 89, formerly of the Embreeville community, went home to her eternal reward on Monday, November 18, 2019 at her home at Governor's Bend Assisted Living Facility surrounded by her family. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and a humble servant of God, and she lived her life in preparation and anticipation of this day.

She was born on November 1, 1930 in Washington County, Tennessee and was a 1948 graduate of Lamar High School. She, along with her best friend Betty Ann Storey, were the only two remaining charter members of the Embreeville Church of Christ, where she served her Lord faithfully for over 70 years. In addition to caring for her family, she was a former employee of Hoover Ball & Bearing Company in Erwin. She also provided care for several extended family members in her home.

She was a lifetime member of both the Order of the Eastern Star Unicoi / Erwin chapter #276 and the Lamar Ruritan Club.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Sherrill Treadway; her mother, Fern Miller Treadway; her husband of 57 years, Carroll Tester; an infant son, Richard Stephen Tester; her sisters, Madeline Deaton and Lois Keplinger; and her brother Clyde Keplinger.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Tester and wife, Star, of Jonesborough, and Pat Tester and wife, Angie, of Telford; three grandchildren, Robert Tester and wife, Whitney, of Johnson City, and Kaylee Tester and Connor Tester of Telford; a nephew, Terry Deaton, and several extended family members, neighbors, and friends. She had a special bond with her Lamar high school basketball teammates, Betty Ann Storey, Peggy Cloyd, Roxie Lowe, Isabel Slonaker, and Gertrude Johnson, with whom she shared a monthly lunch (and many laughs) for numerous years.

The family will receive friends Friday, November 22, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Embreeville Church of Christ, 4343 Highway 81 South, Erwin, Tennessee. The funeral service will be held at the church at approximately 8:00 PM (or upon the conclusion of the visitation) with Kevin Holley, Scott Phillips, and Charles Fitzsimmons officiating. The graveside service will be held Saturday, November 23, 2019, at 10:00 AM at the New Victory Baptist Church Cemetery, 527 Conklin Road, Jonesborough, Tennessee.

Active pallbearers will be Earl Beals, Rick Broyles, Jeff Lane, Ronnie Mullins, Jim Peterson, Jack Phillips, Richard Storey, Terry Tittle, and Vaughn Tucker. Honorary pallbearers will be members of her Sunday School class and special friends, J. J. Casey and David Yates.

Thanks to the many family members and friends who have been so caring and giving during this difficult time. A special thanks for their outstanding and loving care to the past and present staff of Governor's Bend Assisted Living Facility (where she had lived for the past seven years) and the staff of Amedisys Hospice.

Betty Kyker Little, 84, Elizabethton, went to be with her Lord, April 30, 2019 at her residence following an extended illness.

A native of Telford, she was a daughter of the late Hugh & Ada Treadway Kyker. She was a graduate of Lamar High School. Mrs. Little was an employee of East Tennessee Undergarment for 42 years. She was an avid sports fan; she loved playing softball and basketball. She was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church, In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Wayne Little who passed away April 21, 2006, by four brothers: J.B., Allen, Bud,& Bobby Kyker, and three sisters: Wanda Kahn, Eva O'Brien and Ruth Kyker.

Survivors include a son & daughter-in-law: Wayne Little, Jr & Gina, Elizabethton. Two Daughters & Sons-In-Law: Janet & Ted Weaver and Darlene & Randy Hardin, all of Elizabethton. Six Grandchildren: Ryan Weaver & wife Abbey, Trever Weaver & Wife Rebekah, Andy Hardin & wife Monica, Josh Hardin & wife Diana, Micah little & wife Gwen and Maison Little & Wife Kelly. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2019 in the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park with Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. TELFORD - Mrs. Lana Patricia (Prissy) Slagle, age 77, Telford, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Lakebridge Healthcare Center.

Mrs. Slagle was born to Hugh & Ada Kyker on April 21, 1944 in Telford, TN. She grew up on a farm. She was Captain of the Lamar Cheerleading Team. She completed 12 years of school at Lamar School where she was Salutatorian of her graduation class. She went to Steed College, completed a degree in Medical Transcription and worked as a Transcriptionist for 25 years, retiring from Watauga Orthopedics. She was a dedicated and loving mother.

Patricia married Darrell Wayne Slagle, Sr. on September 4, 1963. They have three children, Darrell Wayne Slagle, Jr. (Stephanie Arthur), Terena Michele Slagle Burkey (Kevin), Angela Leigh Slagle Tilson (Richard); grandchildren, Erica Slagle Loyd (Jordan), Kourtney Slagle Daniels (Jerrad), Brittney Slagle Greer (Josh), Brandon Burkey, Nathan Burkey, Caleb Tilson (Chelsie Murray), Benjamin Tilson and Rachel Tilson; great grandchildren, Cloey Loyd, Braxton Loyd, Harper Loyd, Craig Patchell, Isaiah Daniels, River Daniels, Paisley Greer and Macy Greer; sibling, Letha Kyker Grogg (Sam); and several nephews and nieces.

She grew up going to New Victory Baptist Church. She attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church many years after her marriage. She was a pastor’s wife for 20 years at King Springs Baptist Church. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her. She sang soprano for the Singing Glori-aires and The Slagle Family. She taught women’s Sunday School Class, was the church pianist, youth and adult choir leader, Bible School Director and pianist, direct of Christmas and Easter plays for years. She loved visiting the sick at the hospital and working in the church.

She played slow pitch softball for the King Springs Softball Team and one season struck out 33 batters.

Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 pm Monday, May 10, 2021 with Dr. Lester Morelock officiating. The Slagle Family will sing and granddaughter, Kourtney will sing a special song. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Monday prior to the service.

Interment services will be conducted 11 am, Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

JONESBOROUGH - Mrs. Judy Treadway Anderson, age 79, Jonesborough, passed away Monday, February 6, 2023 at Johnson City Medical Center.

Mrs. Anderson was born August 23, 1943, to the late Charles and Eva Byrd Treadway. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Anderson; son, Charles Douglas Anderson; sisters, Drema Kagan and Shirley Lane.

She was a member of Fairhaven United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Robby Anderson, Jamey Anderson (Beth) and Tony Anderson, all of Jonesborough; four grandchildren, William Anderson, Joseph Anderson, Maggie Krug (Evan) and Chloe Anderson; sister, Jane Dillow; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Ed & Joy Hawkins of Marion, NC.

Catherine was born August 19, 1944, in Washington County, to the late Vestal & Frances Guinn Treadway.

She was a member of Cherokee Baptist Church.

Survivors include two brothers, Wayne Treadway (Sandy) and Gene Treadway (Faye) all of Jonesborough; sister, Marie Jackson, Jonesborough; nieces and nephews, Craig Treadway, Nicole Myers and Brad Jackson; and several other nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted 3:00 PM, Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Cherokee Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. James Cambron officiating. Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Deacons of Cherokee Baptist Church.

Mr. Vestal H. Kyker, 52, Jonesborough, TN, passed away from a sudden heart attack at his home Sunday, November 19, 2006.

He was a son of the late Calvin Allen Kyker and Rose Kyker Lentz, of Brooksville, FL. He was also preceded in death by a brother.

He was a carpenter and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Johnson City. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, 3 sisters and 2 brothers: Linda Ragland, Ellijay, GA, Joan Kyker, Elizabethton, TN, Calvin Kyker, Jonesborough, TN, Carolyn Street, Brooksville, FL, and Arnold Deal Kyker, Lineville, AL; 6 aunts; and several nieces & nephews.

Memorial services for Mr. Vestal H. Kyker will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the residence, 618 Mayberry Road, Jonesborough, TN. Friends may call at other times at the home of his brother, Calvin Kyker, 3932 Highway 81 South, Jonesborough, TN.
