    ELIZABETHTON — Mr. Eugene F. (Jack) Buckles, formerly of 159 Buckles Road, Elizabethton, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton.

    He was born on December 13, 1921, to the late Frank and Emma Buckles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Juanita G. Buckles; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pearl and Luther Buckles and Effie and Carmack Danner; two brothers, Clay Buckles and Claude Buckles. He was a native of Carter County, TN.

    Mr. Buckles was a life-long farmer in the Blue Springs Community of Carter County, he also served in the United States Army and saw combat in Europe during WWII. He was employed at North American Rayon Corporation for many years and served two terms on the Carter County Commission. He was a member of the Blue Springs Christian Church.

    Mr. Buckles was fond of bluegrass music, gospel music and old time fiddle tunes. One of his favorite songs was "What a Day That Will Be" with which he often sang along. He especially enjoyed the gospel music of Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver.

    Mr. Buckles is survived by four children: Vivian Hammonds, Wayne L. Buckles, Barbara Jean Lotshaw, all of Elizabethton, and Debbie Dotson, of Watauga; two sons-in-law, Howard Hammonds and Mark Dotson; four grandchildren, Melanie Harkleroad and husband, Tim, of Bristol, Nathan Arnold and wife, Shelley, of Norman, OK, Frank Arnold and wife, Caryn, of Tulsa, OK, Dustin Buckles and wife, Jessica, Elizabethton; five great-grandchildren, Martin and Sarah Harkleroad, Bristol, Mason, Haley and Brett Arnold, Norman, OK; brothers and sisters-in-law, H.J. and Helen Buckles, Ivan Buckles, Earl and Helen Buckles, Elizabethton, Paul and Peggy Buckles, of Mt. Carmel, TN; sisters, Margaret Garland, of Casco, MI, Edith Buckles and Myrtle Pierce, Elizabethton, Brenda and Bill Taylor, of Johnson City; sisters-in-law, Georgia Buckles, of Bristol, and Myrtle Buckles, Elizabethton; and a special brother-in-law, Harold Grindstaff, of Goode, VA. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors, including his church families and his friends at Big Red's also survive.

    The funeral service for Mr. Buckles will be conducted Thursday, July 15, 2010, at 7:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Mr. Richard Thomason, minister, and Dr. William Duncan officiating.

    The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday prior to the service and at 1331 Blue Springs Road at other times.

    The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Friday, July 16, 2010, at 10:00 AM at the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tennessee. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Blue Springs Christian Church, the men of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church, "Big Red" Carrier and the regular attendees of the Liar's Club. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.

    ELIZABETHTON — Mrs. Edith Grace Buckles, 87, formerly of 189 Rainbow Circle, Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2011.

    She was the daughter of the late Frank and Emma Buckles and was born in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Buckles, in 1986; three brothers; and two sisters-in-law, Clay and Georgia Buckles, Claude Buckles, Eugene and Juanita Buckles; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Luther and Pearl Buckles, Carmack and Effie Danner; two brothers-in-law, Elwood Garland, Guerney Pierce; a sister-in-law, Ella Mae Buckles.

    Mrs. Buckles was a homemaker and a partner in the Floyd Buckles Sales Company. She was a devoted member of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church. She loved her friends in the Willing Workers Sunday School Class there.

    She was a loving aunt who will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews.

    She is survived by four brothers, H.J. Buckles and his wife, Helen, Elizabethton, Ivan Buckles; Elizabethton, Earl Buckles and his wife, Helen, Elizabethton; Paul Buckles and his wife, Peggy, Mt. Carmel; three sisters, Margaret Garland, Casco, MI, Myrtle Pierce, Elizabethton, Brenda Taylor and her husband, Bill, Johnson City; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Buckles; her special friend and caregiver, Wilma Bowers; and her roommate and friend, Charlotte Walker. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

    The funeral service for Mrs. Buckles will be conducted on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. William Lunsford, Rev. William Taylor and Dr. William Duncan officiating. Music will be under the direction of Tina Lunsford and Headed Home.

    The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1:00-2:00 PM Saturday prior to the service and at the home of a sister, Myrtle Pierce, 233 Berry Hill Road, Elizabethton, at other times.

    Interment will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Gerald Buckles, Dean Buckles, Jimmy Buckles, Tommy Pierce, Randy Wilson, Eric Buckles, Jerry Weaver and Buddy Bowers. Honorary pallbearers will be all her friends and neighbors.

    The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Life Care Center of Elizabethton, especially the CNA staff and Alice for all the love and care shown to Edith and the family.

    H.J. Buckles, 87, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, August 15, 2016, from Sycamore Shoals Hospital. H.J. was born in Carter County to the late Frank "F.T." Buckles and Emma Buckles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Edith Buckles, Pearl Buckles, Margaret Garland and Effie Danner; his first wife, Ella Mae Buckles; and five brothers, Clay Buckles, Gene Buckles, Claude Buckles, Earl Buckles and Ivan Buckles.
    H.J. had worked as both a bus driver and a farmer. He was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church and attended Meadowview Baptist Church. H.J. loved gardening and will be missed by everyone that knew him.
    Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 24 years, Helen Sharp Buckles, of the home; two sons, Dale Buckles of Hampton and Dean Buckles and wife Glenda of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Joseph Buckles and wife Prenthia and Daniel Buckles and wife Bonnie, both of Elizabethton; three great-grandchildren, Mollie, Addilyn and Clint, all of Elizabethton; a stepson, Paul McCray and wife Debbie of North Carolina; a grandchild, Paul McCray Jr. and wife Tina of North Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Alexander, both of North Carolina; two sisters, Myrtle Pierce and Brenda Taylor and husband Bill; and one brother, Paul Buckles and wife Peggy.
    A service to honor and celebrate the life of H.J. Buckles will be conducted at 6 p.m. Friday, August 19, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Richard Jones and Rev. Dean Smith officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 6 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 20, at Caldwell Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Gene Stansberry, Ray Lewis, Jimmy Buckles, Joseph Buckles, Daniel Buckles, Dayton Buckles, Matthew Williams and Josh Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Ikis Nave, Ronnie Keller, Jimmy Hyder and John Allen. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 10 a.m. Saturday to go in procession. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Gene and Carolyn Stansberry and Ray and Maxine Lewis.

    Ivan Charles Buckles, 81, Elizabethton passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013, at his residence.

    A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Frank and Emma Buckles.

    Mr. Buckles was employed for a number of years by the Carter County Sheriff Department. He was also a farmer. He was a member of the Carter County Cattleman Association.

    In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters: Pearl Buckles, Effie Danner and Edith Buckles; and four brothers: Clay, Claude, Eugene and Earl Buckles.

    Survivors include his children: Hildred Pressnell, Patsy Colbaugh and Jimmy Buckles and wife, Angie, all of Elizabethton; Two Grandchildren: Jonathan Colbaugh, Shatona Williams; Four Great Grandchildren: Hayden Colbaugh, Melanie Thomas, Victor and Carlos Raminez; Three Sisters: Margaret Garland, Caro, Michigan, Brenda Taylor and husband, Bill, Johnson City, and Myrtle Pierce, Elizabethton; Two Brothers: H.J. Buckles and wife, Helen, Elizabethton, and Paul Buckles and wife, Peggy, Mount Carmel; Several nieces & Nephews.

    Graveside Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2013, in the Buckles Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Lawrence Pierce, Dean Pierce, Randy Wilson, Robert Bowers, Tommy Pierce, Jonathan Colbaugh, Daniel Buckles and Dustin Buckles. Honorary pallbearers will be friends of Burger Hut.

    Mr. Earl C. Buckles, 76, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, following an extended illness.

    He was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Frank and Emma Buckles. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Buckles, Clay Buckles and Claude Buckles; three sisters, Effie Danner, Pearl Buckles and Edith Buckles.

    Mr. Buckles was retired from East Tennessee Chair Company and had served as a constable for the Carter County Sheriff's Department.

    He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Helen Bowers Buckles, of the home; three daughters, Teresa Chambers and husband, Donnie, Hampton, Mary Sue Buckles, Elizabethton, Jamie Simerly and husband, Terry, of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Donna Ranshaw, Joshua Miller, Daniel Chambers, Terrina Gloss and Katie Simerly; one great grandson, Seth Ranshaw; three brothers, Ivan Buckles, Jay Buckles, both of Elizabethton, Paul Buckles, Kingsport; three sisters, Margaret Garland, Michigan, Brenda Taylor, Johnson City, Myrtle Pierce, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    The funeral service for Mr. Buckles will be conducted at 2:30 PM Saturday, October 6, 2012, in the Riverside Chapel at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Richard Blevins and Rev. Willie Lunsford, officiating.

    The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1:00 PM-2:30 PM prior to the service.

    Interment for Mr. Buckles will follow the service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
