    ELIZABETHTON — Gilbert Gibson Hardin, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2012, in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness.

    A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late John R. & Hettie Frazier Hardin. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Japanese Occupation Force. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation.

    Mr. Hardin was the last member of the Hardin Brothers Quartet. The Quartet has sung for many funeral services and also church services in East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Western North Carolina, West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky since they began singing in the early 1940s .

    Mr. Hardin was a member of the New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church and was a former Member, Choir Director and Trustee of Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sibilia Garland Hardin; a daughter: Thelma Dale Hardin; and Six brothers: Albert, Clyde, Auda, Wesley, Guy & Hobart Hardin.

    Survivors include a son: Vernon Hardin; and many nieces & nephews.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2012, in the New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Colbaugh and Rev. Bill Greer officiating. The eulogy will be given by Rev. Randy Johnson.

    Interment will follow in the Blevins Cemetery with the Rev. Clate Briggs officiating. Music will be provided by the New Liberty Choirs, New Liberty Quartet and friends. Active Pallbearers will Lawrence Hardin, Don Hardin, Doug Hardin, Olan Hardin, Buddy Hardin, Eddie Hardin, Marvin Garland, Dave Stanley, Windle Stout, James Garland, Dale Morley and Charles M. Smith.

    Vernon would like to express a special "Thank You" to Judy & Victor Deloach and the staff & residents of Ivy Hall Nursing Home for the excellent care my daddy received during his stay at the nursing home.

    The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday in the New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. There will be a Reception following the graveside service in the Fellowship Center, New Liberty Church. Friends may register their presence at the funeral home Saturday until 5 p.m. or until 11 a.m. Sunday.

    Gilbert married Sibilia Dolan Garland about 1941 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Sibilia (daughter of William Odell Garland and Ada Colbaugh) was born on 14 Sep 1914 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 18 Aug 1995 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Blevins Cemetery, , Carter County, Tennessee.
