    MRS. NAOMI M. MORLEY
    Mrs. Naomi McQueen Morley, 61, died suddenly at her home in Butler yesterday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock.
    A native of Johnson county, Mrs. Morley was well known in her section. She was the daughter of the late Catherine Bradley and Lafayette McQueen and the widow of the late Charles S. Morley, former member of the police force in the city of Elizabethton. A member of the Midway Baptist church she was active in religious circles.
    Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Simon Bradley, Beckley, West Va.; Mrs. Kyle Stout, Mrs. W. L. Greenwell, and Miss Eula Morley, Butler; Mrs. Sherman Young and Mrs. Horace Whitson, Elizabethton; three sons, Dana and Jimmie Morley, Butler; and D. C. Morley, Elizabethton; 14 grandchildren; six sisters, Mrs. L. B. Morley, Mrs. Taylor Smith, Mrs. D. G. Matherly, Butler; Mrs. Mollie Wall, Mountain City; Mrs. D. Robinson, Elizabethton; one brother, John L. McQueen, Hampton.
    The body was taken from the Roy Hathaway Funeral Home this morning to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kyle Stout at Butler.
    Funeral services will be conducted from the Butler Baptist church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. James Sherwood, Rev. J. J. Richardson and Rev. Clarence Nelson officiating. Burial will be made in the Butler Cemetery.

    Mrs. J. D. Robinson, one of Butler's most outstanding women, died early this morning, following a short illness, having contracted pneumonia about a week ago.
    Funeral services will be conducted from the Baptist church at Butler Friday afternoon at two o'clock, the Rev. W. R. Riggle, pastor of the Central Baptist Church at Johnson City, and the Rev. D. B. Bowers, of Chattanooga, officiating. Interment will be made in the Butler Cemetery.
    Surviving are her husband, Dr. J. D. Robinson, Sr.; one daughter Lena Lee Robinson and one son, James D. Robinson, Jr.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. L. McQueen, Butler; seven sisters, Mrs. R. T.     Her marriage to Dr. Robinson united two of the oldest families in this section of the state, her father, L. L. McQueen, being a descendant of one of the earliest families of this section.

    KINGSPORT — Mary Elza Morley Young, 99 years and 9 months, passed away early Tuesday morning, November 16, 2010, after a brief illness.

    Mary was born February 16, 1911, in Johnson County, Tennessee, to Charles and Naomi McQueen Morley.

    Mary was a faithful wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her Lord, her family and her church dearly.

    Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Sherman Young, in 1980; a son, Earnest Dale Young, in 1952; a daughter-in-law, Betty Young; five sisters; and three brothers.

    She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Phillips and husband, Ron; five sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and wife, Reda, Harold and wife, Della, Tom and wife, Billie, Bill and wife, Grandle, George and wife, Lois. She is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

    The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at Gravelly Baptist Church, 500 Gravely Road.

    Services will follow at 7:00 p.m., with Pastor David Salley officiating. Music will be offered by the Gravelly Baptist Church choir.

    Graveside services will be conducted on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton, TN. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gravelly Baptist Church Building Fund, 500 Gravely Road, Kingsport, TN 37660.

    Mrs. Callie Elizabeth Morley Greenwell, 93, 568 Long Hollow Road, Elizabethton went to be with her Lord Sunday, March 4, 2007 at her residence. A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Charles Spurgeon and Naomi McQeen Morley. She had lived most of her life in Carter County. She had worked as a cook in the Carter County school system for several years. Mrs. Greenwell was a member of the Zion Baptist Church and was active in the WMU of the church.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. "Doug" Greenwell, November 18, 1983; by a grandson, Tony Greenwell; three brothers: Dana Morley, D.C. Morley, Sr and James Morley; four sisters: Carrie Bradley, Eula Tester, Gladys Stout and Dorothy Whitson.

    Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law: Shirley Greenwell, of the home, Carolyn Sue and Clarence Berry, Madisonville, KY, two sons and daughters-in-law: Jim and Carol Greenwell and Teddy and Martha Greenwell, all of Elizabethton; six grandchildren: Tim Berry and Tina Willis, both of Madisonville, KY, Tracy Devine, Calhoun, KY, Tammy Greenwell, Asheville, NC, Gina Greenwell, Orlando, FL and Melissa Millsaps, Elizabethton; six great-grandsons; a sister: Mrs. Mary Young, Kingsport; two sisters-in-law: Helen Morley McKittrick, Denver, Colorado and Shizako Morely, El Cajon, California; several nieces and nephews.

    A funeral service to celebrate the life of Callie Greenwell will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Devine and Rev. Sherrill Nave officiating. Honorary minister will be Rev. C.W. Snodgrass. Graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Tina and James Willis and the church choir.

    Geneva Norris, 94, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2013, after a brief illness. A native of Butler, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Millard and Winne McQueen Grindstaff. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Claude Norris; two sisters, Margery McPeake and Dorothy Livingston; and a brother, Coolidge L. Grindstaff.
    Mrs. Norris was an active member of First Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Watauga Academy and Tennessee State Teachers College. For twenty-seven years, she taught students at Eastside Elementary in the Elizabethton City School System. She is survived by four children: Sharon Mooney and husband Neil of Bristol, TN; Lynn Norris and wife Jatana of North, SC; Beverly Miller and husband Rusty of Atlanta, GA; and Steve Norris and wife Janie of Knoxville, TN.
    Mrs. Norris loved and adored her nine grandchildren: Kevin Mooney of Bristol, TN; David Mooney and wife Becky of Kingsport, TN; Jim Norris and wife Jessica of Fort Mills, SC; John Norris and wife Michelle of Columbia, SC; Brian Miller of Richmond Hills, GA; Kelly Stephens and husband Brad of Atlanta, GA; Daniel Norris and wife Suzi of Austin, TX; Drew Norris of Chicago, IL; and Claire Conkin and husband Matt of Knoxville, TN. She loved her seven great grandchildren as well.
    The celebration of life service for Mrs. Norris will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 27, 2013 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. John Bunn officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. John Norris, grandson. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday.

    Mr. Jimmy Dale Lipford, 80, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on February 28, 2015 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after an extended illness.

    Mr. Lipford was born in Butler, TN on October 27, 1934. He lived most of his life in Carter County. Most will remember his ownership of several service stations and his many friends associated with drag racing and participation in Rod Runs. He and his brother Howard built most of the homes in Crowe Bottom in the Valley Forge Community. He loved the Tennessee Vols and spending time with his grandchildren. He attended First Freewill Baptist Church.

    In addition to his parents (Oscar and Lucy Matherly Lipford), he was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, (Patricia Rose Lipford), and his brothers, (Howard and Ray).

    Survivors include his daughters, Lisa Pilkington (and husband, John) and Stephanie Nave (and her husband, Kenneth), and his sister, Charlotte Williams, a niece, (Betty Jo Greene), and his grandchildren, who were the loves of his life, (Matt and Conner Nave). Several other nieces and nephews also survive.

    A visitation period will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. A service to honor the life of Mr. Lipford will be conducted at 7:00 PM following the visitation on Tuesday. Rev. Nathan Jennings and Rev. Jack Lloyd will officiate and music will be provided by Grady and Alicia Holder.

    The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Happy Valley Memorial Park.     He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Clara; daughters Vickie Phelps, Elaine Smith, and Jeanne Smith; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; his siblings James L. Smith Jr. of Memphis, David S. Smith of Knoxville, and Earnestine Baker of Johnson City. He was preceded in death by parents, James Lamar Smith and Rowena Matherly Smith and infant brother David Grant Smith.

    JOHNSON CITY - Ernestine S. Baker, age 89, of Johnson City, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord on Monday, March 6, 2023 surrounded by her family. Ernestine was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late James Lamar Smith and Rowena (Matherly) Smith. Ernestine was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty-six years, James Lee Baker, in November 2022; her son, Richard Baker; two brothers, Norman (Clara) Smith and J.L. (Josephine) Smith; an infant brother, James David Smith; and a special cousin, Billie Greene.

    Ernestine was a loving and kind lady and above everything else she loved her Lord and her family. She was a graduate of Draughon’s Business College and worked as a secretary at Home Federal Bank before becoming a full-time wife and mother. She retired from United Way. She was a devoted member of Grace Baptist Church of Elizabethton, Pinecrest Baptist Church of Johnson City and most recently Grace Baptist Church of Johnson City. Ernestine was a talented seamstress and also enjoyed singing and camping. Although her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled nor forgotten, we find comfort that she is now at home with the Lord and reunited with Jim.

    Those left to cherish and remember her memory include her daughter, Lisa Sisk and husband Wesley; four granddaughters, Ashley (Josh) Williams, Hayley (Britt) Reece, Alesha Sisk, and Kaylee Baker; two grandsons, Colby Baker and Chance (Emily) Baker; her great grandsons, Dylan, Roland, Bodhi and Judah Williams and Holston Reece; her daughter-in-law, Kyra Baker and family; one brother, David Samuel (Lala) Smith; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

    A celebration of Ernestine’s life will be conducted at 3:30 PM on Sunday, March 12, 2023 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Reverend Darryl Blair and Reverend Michael Heath officiating. The family will receive friends and family between the hours of 2:00 PM until the service hour at 3:30 PM on Sunday. Friends and family may also visit the residence at other times.

    Billie Naomi Greene, 89, of Lake City, Fla., went to her Heavenly home on April 1, 2022, at Suwannee Valley Care Center. She was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., on December 28, 1932, to the late Vernon Riddle Cordell and Hazel Opal Matherly.
    Billie grew up in a small east Tennessee community and graduated from Elizabethton High School. She was a beautiful woman from the inside out who accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in her teens and lived a life that reflected her deep conviction to Him. She married the love of her life, Mack Greene, in June of 1952. They enjoyed an extraordinary life together traveling extensively with the National Park Service where Mack was employed many years. Perhaps her most incredible memory was having tea with Eleanor Roosevelt when they lived in Hyde Park, N.Y., but that’s hard to say as there were countless memories she shared throughout her sweet life.
    Billie was a talented seamstress, and her handiwork was flawless. She was most passionate about her family; being a devoted wife and loving mother to her two children. She and Mack were married 35 years when he passed at the age of 62. Billie remained healthy and independent until her last days. She was a member of Elim Baptist Church in Ft. White and Fort White United Methodist Church. She thoroughly enjoyed attending church services to praise, worship, be filled and grow, along with spending precious time fellowshipping with her church family. Billie loved unconditionally and her legacy is that she was genuinely loved by everyone that knew her. Well done, faithful servant.
    Billie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mack C. Greene Jr.; parents, Vernon “Pat” Cordell and Hazel MacLaren; her grandparents; and all her aunts and uncles.
    Billie is survived by her loving children, Roger B. (Sherry) Greene Sr. of Virginia, and Nancy L. During their lives together they made their home in all four corners of the country, living for a time in Rhode Island, Maine, Florida, Washington, California, Virginia, and returned to Tennessee where he lived from 1971 until the day of his death, July 31st, 2017.

    Wayne instilled a love of living in his children and grandchildren, grounded in his belief that there was little reason to worry when God was in control. He loved nature and whether he was camping with his family, riding motorcycles around the mountains, or just sitting outside listening to the birds, he was at peace enjoying the beauty around him.

    Wayne loved his family. He was the proud father of two children, four grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He is survived by Larry (and his wife Dawn) and Karen (and her husband, Mike); four grandchildren, Lisa, Dana (and her fiancé Robert), Dustin (and his wife, Crystal), and Robert (and his wife, Fran); and proud great-grandfather to Makenzie, Ashley, Sophia, Trinity, Aaron, Seth, and Liam. Nothing made him smile easier than the smiles of his children. He is also survived by his loving younger sister, Pearl Matherly, and his wife, Georgie, who remained in his thoughts until his last days on this earth.

    Wayne will always be remembered as a kind, caring, honest and thoughtful man who loved to smile, laugh, and tell stories. He never met a stranger, he loved talking to everyone he met and couldn't be pulled away from a lively conversation. He enjoyed whittling and his woodworking kept him quite busy for years. Strangers and family alike can attest to the presence of letter openers, birds and walking sticks that Wayne gifted to them over the years.

    As a family, we will miss his smile, his laugh, and his company. We were blessed to have him in our lives as long as we did.
