Funeral services for Mrs. Daisy Grindstaff, 38, wife of Claude E. Grindstaff, who died yesterday at her home at Watauga Valley, will be conducted Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the home of her parents, Mr. And Mrs. A. B. Williams in Watuaga Valley, with the Rev. C. Y. Elkins in charge.

Mrs. Hodges was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Abraham B. and Loretta Frazier Williams. She was also preceded in
death by her husband, Conley L. Hodges, in 1977, a son, five brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Hodges had lived in Washington County for 70 years. She had been a homemaker and was a Charter Member of the Watauga Valley Free Will

ELIZABETHTON — Mrs. Violet Grace Branch, age 97, formerly of 252 Liberty Hollow Road, died Tuesday, February 22, 2005, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. Mrs. Branch was a lifelong resident of Carter County and the daughter of the late Abraham and Rachel Williams. She was a Charter member and the oldest living member of Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church and also attended New Liberty Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie M. Branch; one daughter, Loretta P. Diamond; two sons, Martin Van Branch and Carrick Ben Branch Sr.; six brothers, Teddy, Albert, Dewey, Lon, Rex and Harry Williams; and six sisters, Pearl Williams, Ruby Nidiffer, Daisy Grindstaff, Georgie Lewis, Josie Hodges and Flossie Williams. Survivors include one daughter, Jeanetta B. Webb, of Elizabethton; one daughter-in-law, LaVerne Kennedy Branch, of Crystal River, Florida; and eleven grandchildren, Kathy Webb, Kenneth Webb, Kaye Webb Garland, Noel Branch, Jewel Ward, Joann Nidiffer, Carrick Ben Branch Jr., April Head, Lori Helmdach, Susie Vearner and Donald Diamond. JOHNSON CITY - Wilma A. Snyder, age 89, of Johnson City, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 1, 2019 from the Waters of Johnson City.

Ms. Snyder was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Eugene and Laura Lewis Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Williams and Billy Williams; and four sisters, Anna Lee Stout, Pauline Proffitt, Stella Campbell and Beulah Williams.

Ms. Snyder had worked as a certified nursing assistant and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cross stitching and doing art.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Kay Meade and husband Mike, of Johnson City, Carol Shull, of Johnson City and Rod Snyder and wife Mary Ann, of Piney Flats; her grandchildren, Matt Marshall, Brooke Armistead (Ben Spearman), and Brent Shull; and her great grandchildren, Campbell Marshall and Haydn Spearman.

A private service will be conducted at the Mausoleum of Hope at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

The family would like to especially thank Amedysis Hospice and the caregivers at the Waters of Johnson City for the loving care shown to Ms. Snyder during her illness.

A native and descendant of Pioneer Carter County Families, she was born March 24, 1916, to the late Claude E. Grindstaff and Daisy Williams Grindstaff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Cecil H. Hardin, on August 25, 1997; and two infant daughters; Her son-in-law, Arlin Hopson, January 4, 2005; and a brother, Harold Grindstaff in February 2005. She was a member of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church. She and her friends, Creola Day and Hazel Elliott, went to the state parks and made apple butter and churned real butter, during the demonstrations of old time crafts. She enjoyed going to the senior citizens center and made many friends there. The following are very special people in Maw Hardin's life, John and Peggy Wiggins, Patricia Buck, Herb Roberts, Rebecca Click and Dylan, Frances and Dicie, Daughters of the late Nell Elliott, who was her roommate at Life Care Center, Her present roommate, Hazel Cable, Her friends at the senior citizens center, especially Pauline Frazier, with whom she shared her love of music. Many thanks to the staff at Life Care Center of Elizabethton, who showed her so much kindness, especially Susie, Teresa, Kim, Michelle, Rebecca, Pat and Margaret. ELIZABETHTON — Dimple M. Williams, 93, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012, in the Pine Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Daisy Williams Grindstaff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Vivian Buracker; two sons, Terry Williams and Jewell "Pete" Williams; three sisters, Ruby Hardin, Opal Gouge and June Allen; two brothers, Harold Grindstaff and Wesley Grindstaff; ex-husband, Dewey Williams.

Mrs. Williams was a retired seamstress and was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, working in her flowers and sewing.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Cole and husband, Karl, Elkridge, MD; a son, Harold Williams and wife, Linda, Mooresboro, NC; three brothers, A.B. Grindstaff, David Grindstaff and Elic Grindstaff, all of Elizabethton; two sisters, Josie Shook, whom she considered her "most special sister" for her whole life and husband, Jack, Elizabethton, and Dorothy Deloach, Elizabethton; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Survivors also include, Claudia Proctor and Roy Wayne Shipley, both of whom Mrs. Williams raised as her own.

The funeral service for Mrs. Williams will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, April 23, 2012, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Chaplain Bryan Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1:00-2:00 Monday prior to the service.

ELIZABETHTON '97 Opal C. Gouge, age 87, 977 Hwy. 91, Elizabethton, went to be with the Lord Monday, May 26, 2008, from Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.

She was a Carter County native born to the late Claude and Daisy Williams Grindstaff. Mrs. Gouge was a member of Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and retired from Raytheon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son; one brother: Harold Grindstaff; and one sister: Ruby Hardin.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law: Norman Gouge, Elizabethton, William and Donna Gouge, Mt. Holly, NC; one daughter and son-in-law: Sharon and Harry Compton, Orange, VA; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters and one brother-in-law: June and Bill Allen, Dimple Williams, and two brothers and one sister-in-law: Wesley and Lucille Grindstaff, A.B. Grindstaff, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Gouge will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, in the Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Rev. Elmer Carter officiating. Music will be under the direction of Joy Dean Babb and Diana Blevins.

JOHNSON CITY - Euretha I. Anderson, of Johnson City, TN, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at her home.

She was born on January 5, 1926, in Stoney Creek, Carter County, TN, the daughter of Conley and Josephine (Williams) Hodges. They preceded her in death, along with her husband, Guy in 1977, and her brother, Kermit Hodges and her sister, Velma Rowe.

Mrs. Anderson was a longtime member of N.G. Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church where she was the pianist of the church for 60 years. She worked as the secretary for the Music Department at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, for 15 years, retiring in July of 1994. She loved her family and was a great cook.

Mrs. Anderson is survived by her sons, Steven (and his wife, Claudia) Anderson, of Johnson City, and Tony (and his wife, Estela) Anderson of Savannah, GA; her grandchildren, Eric and Amber Anderson of Johnson City, and Alina Odom of Statesboro, GA, and Nick Anderson of Chicago, IL; and her great grandchildren, Ava Odom and Grant Odom.

Friends may visit with the family on Monday, February 26, 2018, from 2 to 3 pm, at Tetrick Funeral & Cremation Services, 3001 Peoples Street, Johnson City, TN 37604, (423) 610-7171. A committal service will be held following the visitation at 3:30 pm, at the Anderson Family Cemetery, 476 Anderson Road in Johnson City.

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Kenneth Leonard Williams, age 86, of Jacksonville, Florida, formerly of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville, as a result of a fall.

Kenneth was born in Elizabethton on December 17, 1931 to the late Clyde Williams, Sr and Flossie Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Kate (Katie) Stout Williams; a sister, Nona (Sue) Williams; and a brother, Clyde Williams, Jr.

Kenneth was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Tennessee Department of Human Services, where he had served as Regional Director. He had worked as a crew member of several movie and television shows. Kenneth had played fast pitch softball for several local teams for many years and was an avid sports fan and western film buff. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Johnson City, Tennessee and had presently attended services at the Cypress Village Retirement Community in Florida.

Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Debra Harvey and Barbara Harris, both of Jacksonville, FL; a son-in-law, Chris Harris, also of Jacksonville; a granddaughter, Amanda Harvey and husband Aaron Yampolski and two great grandchildren, Emma Katherine (Katie) and Lucas Yampolski, all of Los Angeles, CA; and a brother, Gary Williams, of Elizabethton. Several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton.

Jeanetta Branch Webb, 92, of Elizabethton, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness. She was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Willie and Violet Williams Branch. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Webb; a daughter, Kathy Webb; and a son, Kenny Webb.
Jeanetta attended Lees-McRae College where she received a Medical Records Librarian Degree. She then attended Milligan College where she received a degree in Education, and eventually received a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Tennessee. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Elizabethton.
Jeanette loved animals and the UT Lady Vols. She cared deeply for her family and unselfishly never hesitated to do without so that she could take care of those in need.
Those left to cherish her many memories include her daughter, Kaye, and son-in-law, Chris Garland, of Elizabethton, and two grandsons, Sumner Garland of Knoxville and Travis Webb of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A private entombment service will be conducted in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and to Amedisys Hospice for the love and care given to Jeanetta during her illness.

ELIZABETHTON — Carrell Brittian Lewis, 74, Elizabethton passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2010, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Bernie B. and Georgia Williams Lewis. Mr. Lewis worked for several years at American Optical Company of Johnson City and Orlando, Florida, and retired as a Construction Worker. He was of the Christian Faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: George McBernie Lewis; and a sister: Betty Jo Lewis.

Survivors include his wife: Martine Oliver Lewis; A Brother & Sister-In-Law: Leonard & Juanita Lewis, Elizabethton; Several Nieces & Nephews, including a special niece, Maggie Herrmann and her husband, Jeff; & Great Nieces & Nephews, including a special great nephew: Clayton Owens.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Wilson Cemetery with Dr. James Richardson officiating.

Burial will follow the service. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Friday, will be: Steve Oliver, Odell Oliver, Larry Oliver, Jerald Oliver, Clayton Owens, Jeff Herrmann, Dwayne Oliver, Kenneth Williams and J.C. Robinson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joseph Oliver, Sean Mitchell, and Lanny Oliver.

The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Dr. Shipley and Staff, The staff on the 3300 wing, Johnson City Medical Center and Dr. Maautouk, Dr. Colvett and Staff of the Regional Cancer Center.

Eddie F. Williams, 73, of Leesburg, Fla., passed away suddenly on Monday, July 15, 2019. Born and raised in Elizabethton, Tenn., Eddie attended the University of Tennessee where he earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Shortly after beginning his career, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968. After his service, he worked 32 years in Civil Service at the Naval Air Warfare Center in Orlando, Fla., building flight and ship simulators for the U.S. government. He retired in 2000 and moved back to his hometown of Elizabethton, where he resided for 17 years with his wife, Sharon. He then moved with Sharon to Leesburg and lived happily for two years near his daughter, Rebecca, and son-in-law, Stefan, preceding his death.
Eddie loved gardening, plants and blooms, and most of all, orchids. He loved all things technological and was a history buff. Eddie had a love for food and you oftentimes found him with a sweet treat or cooking up a new recipe in the kitchen.
He loved walking his best friend, Miniature Schnauzer, Jasper, and chatting with all the neighbors.
Eddie is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Sharon Vance Williams and his children, Rebecca Williams (Stefan) Basic of Apopka, Fla., and Abigail Williams (David) Hicks of Jonesboro, Tenn.; his two sisters, Loretta Williams May and Ramona Williams Trent of Elizabethton, Tenn.; and his two brothers, Theodore Williams and Bobby Williams of Knoxville, Tenn. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his much loved dog, Jasper. He was preceded in death by his parents, Teddy A. Williams and Novella Gouge Williams of Elizabethton, Tenn.
Services were held at Tetrick Funeral Home in Elizabethton, Tenn., and interment at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, Tenn.
