    MOUNTAIN CITY — Louise M. Shull, age 92, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2012.

    She was a tall woman among women. Louise will long be remembered for her gentle ways and strength of character. She had a gracious manner and she always knew the correct things to do and say at all times.

    She was the daughter of the late Thomas S. McQueen and Ruth Wills McQueen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Earl Shull; and two brothers: Barton and Norman McQueen; and a son-in-law, Junior Brown.

    She loved quilting, reading, canning, gardening, flowers, cooking and had cooked for everybody in the community. Louise was a former teacher at Oak Grove Elementary, a member of Neva Ruritan and Neva PTA. She gave land to Neva Volunteer Fire Department, Pleasant View Christian Church and to Mountain City Dog Pound.

    She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she was a GA leader, youth teacher, VBS teacher and on the historical committee.

    Survivors include: three daughters: Patsy Eller and husband, Edgar, Barbara S. Simcox and Linda Brown; two sons: Tom Shull and wife, Judith, and Terry Shull and wife, Betty; grandchildren: Scotty Eller, Jim Shull, Michael Simcox, Celeste Dunn, Steve Brown, Mechelle Arney and Jonathan Shull; great grandchildren: Eli, Isaiah and Emma Eller, Sam and Izzy Dunn, Megan and Caleb Brown, Will, Myles and Brady Arney and Noah Shull. Special friends, Kay Atwood, Jennie Laws, June Brady; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

    Funeral services for Louise M. Shull will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012, from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Norman and Mr. Scotty Eller officiating.

    Graveside service and interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2012, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

    Active pallbearers will be Scotty Eller, Michael Simcox, Steve Brown, Jim Shull, Jonathan Shull, Dwayne Arney and Roby Dunn. Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck Walker, Dean Stout, Dan Williams, Bill Wilson, Ralph Stout, Jackie Ward, Terry Matheson, Jerry Grindstaff, Coleman Brown, Jake Ward and rhe King's Workers (Sunday School Class).

    Louise married Earl D. Shull about 1940 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee. Earl (son of James Roby Shull and Addie Tallulah Arnold) was born about 1918 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee; died on 19 Apr 2010 in Washintgon County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, , Johnson County, Tennessee.     Notes:

    Mr. James Thomas 'Tom' Shull, age 74, passed away peaceably at his home on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 following 6 years of being confined to the home with various health issues.

    He attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he was a member. He was a charter member of Neva Ruritan Club and Neva Fire Department, where he was past Chief.

    Tom was preceded in death by his father and mother, Earl and Louise Shull, brother, Terry Shull, sister and her husband, Linda and Junior Brown.

    Tom is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judith Eggers Shull, son, Jim Shull, two sisters, Pat Eller and husband Edgar Eller and Barbara Simcox, sister-in-law, Betty Shull, a number of nieces and nephews, special friends, Skip Wills, Bill Wilson and the Men's Sunday School Class of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, who brought Sunday School to him for the past three years.

    It was Mr. Shull's request to be cremated and his ashes scattered on the family farm. There will be no formal services.

    Notes:

    Barbara Earl Shull Simcox, age 79, went to be with the lord Monday, January 30, 2023 at Hillview Nursing home. Barbara was born on December 11, 1943, in Mountain City to the late Earl and Louise Shull. Barbara was preceded in death by her sister Linda Brown, her two brothers Tom Shull and Terry Shull, her son-in-law Roby dunn, her ex-husband Jabin V (Ben) Simcox, and her precious caregiver Darlene Orndorff.

    Before graduating from JCHS in 1961, She was very involved in school and was cheer captain. She continued to be close to her classmates until her death, planning her class reunions every year for more than 20 years. She was a huge Tennessee Vols Fan. It was always a family affair including KFC before the game! She attended many away games and bowl games in addition to her season tickets!


    She began working at H&R Block in 1971 and bought the Mountain City franchise in 1977. She was everyone's "tax lady" and all her clients loved her. She took pride in helping her clients in any way she could professionally and personally. She retired after 45 years. Barbara also worked for the ASCS office on the tobacco market for over 30 years. Barbara was entrepreneur. She owned Starlight Video, G&H Coin Laundry, and Shull's Farm Corn maze with her son Michael. She raised tobacco, green pepper, and catnip over the years.

    Barbara was extremely active in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She led the GA's and Acteens, sang in the choir, directed Bible School for 10 years, and directed all dramas the church produced during Christmas and Easter.

    Those left to cherish her memory are her children Michael Simcox and Celeste Simcox Dunn, her grandchildren Izzy Dunn and Sam Dunn (Hannah), and her great-grandchildren Jaxon and Sawyer Dunn. Her sister Pat Eller (Edgar), Nephews Steve Brown (Robin), Scotty Eller (Renee), Jim Shull, Mechelle Arney, Jonathan Shull (Danielle), and great nieces and nephews. Special friend, Jeanie Arnold her best friend since 5th grade.

    Linda S. Brown age 70 of Mountain City, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday April 26, 2017 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief illness, with her children by her side. She was born to Earl and Louise McQueen Shull on August 26, 1946 in Doc. Glenn's clinic in Mountain City. She was the fourth of five children. She grew up on a farm in the Neva Community. After graduating from high school, she attended Johnson City Cosmetology School. She was a retiree from Levi Strauss. She was currently employed by Samaritans Purse.

    She enjoyed cooking for family and friends. Her banana pudding and pimento cheese were bragged about by many as being the "Best they ever had." She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was an assistant Sunday-Preschool teacher for the past 25 years. She enjoyed traveling, working in her daylilies, shopping for shoes, talking with her friends, the Tennessee Volunteers (Go Big Orange), and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her favorite color was purple.

    She proudly represented Samaritan's Purse twice in Alaska assisting Veterans and their families with Operation Heal Our Patriots. She was recently learning how to text and take selfies on her new Smart Phone.

    Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Louise Shull, her father-in-law, Albert G. Brown, her husband, Junior L. Brown, and her brother, Terry Shull.

    Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter: Mechelle Brown Arney; one son, Steve (Robin) Brown of Moore, OK; her granddaughter, Savannah Megan Brown; four grandsons, Caleb Brown, Will Arney, Myles Arney, and Brady Arney; two sisters, Barbara S. Simcox and Patsy (Edgar) Eller and one brother, Tom (Judith) Shull and her loyal dog Buddy; her grand dog Gabby, her best friend Cora Walls (who was more like a sister), her Samaritan's Purse Housekeeping sisters, and several nieces, nephews, and many special friends
