    Reba Peters, age 93, of Elizabethton, TN went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 30, 2015 in the Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness.

    A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Judson and Maggie Hyder Nave. Reba was a homemaker and she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Elizabethton. During the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's she would taxi children to school. She loved her family and everyone called her "Big Granny". Reba also loved to take rides in the mountains and working puzzles.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Estel Peters; a son, Ricky Peters; a brother, Harry Nave and a very special aunt who raised her, Lizzie Nave.

    Survivors include three daughters, Patsy Davis and husband Lawrence; Johnson City; Peggy Moore, Elizabethton and Betty Frazier and husband Wes, Elizabethton; two sons, C. J. Peters and wife Debbie, Elizabethton and Darrell Peters and wife Lynda, Johnson City; twelve grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and a special sister-in-law, Verlee Peters, Elizabethton also survive.

    A service to honor the life of Reba Peters will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, October 3, 2015 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Dr. Joe Sorah officiating. Music will be under the direction of Teresa Sorah. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. on Saturday prior to the funeral service or at the residence of a daughter, Peggy Moore, 203 Donna Avenue, Elizabethton, TN at other times.

    Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 4, 2015 in the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Mark Newman and Rev. Dean Smith officiating. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 1:15 P.M. on Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Newman, members of Calvary Baptist Church and Shirley Lowry.

    Harry Thurman Nave, 79, 1009 DeJarnette Street, Elizabethton, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
    Mr. Nave was a retired Elizabethton Chief of Police. Prior to his employment at the police department, he was employed at Pet Dairy. Mr. Nave was hired by the police department in December 1962 and was appointed chief of police in 1976. He retired from the police department in 1984. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #622. Mr. Nave was a member, deacon and choir member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
    He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dreama Nave. He was an avid fisherman.
    Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Proffitt Nave; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Brenda Nave, Jasper, Ga.; three grandchildren, Tajai Kuhn, Nicki Nave and Natalie Ricci; three great-grandchildren, Stephen, Megan and Kaitlyn; and a sister, Reba Peters, Elizabethton.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Joe Sorah officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Happy Valley Memorial Park, with the Rev. Gale Hartley officiating. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Monday, will be Dan Kuhn, Chris Ricci, Melvin Nave, Wes Frazier, Jim McKinney, Ronnie Nave, C.J. Peters and Darrell Peters. Honorary pallbearers will be Chief Roger Deal, members and former members of the Elizabethton Police Department, Sheriff John Henson, and members and former members of the Carter County Sheriff's Department. An honor guard and graveside honors will be conducted by the Elizabethton Police Department. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Monday to go to the cemetery.

    JOHNSON CITY - J.N. Buckles, age 94, of Johnson City, Tennessee went home to be the Lord on Thursday, October 24, 2019 from Agape Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.


    J.N. was born in Carter County, Tennessee to the late Alfred and Abbygail Nave Buckles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Lee Nave Buckles; his brothers, Harry Buckles, Eston Buckles, Tommy Buckles and Brown Buckles; and his sisters, Vera Buckles, Ella Buckles and Kate Buckles Williams.

    J.N. retired as a Lieutenant with the Tennessee State Police, following 33 years of service. He was a private man and very dedicated to Public Service. J.N. was of the Baptist faith and was a United States Marine veteran, having served during World War II. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Johnson City Masonic Lodge No. 486. J.N. was a member of York Rite of Johnson City and of the Scottish Rite, of Knoxville and was a founding member of Jericho Shrine, member of National Troopers Association and a member of Tennessee Retired Officers Association. He also enjoyed watching U.T. games and growing up on the family farm.

    Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Gail Buckles, of Elizabethton, TN and Debbie Harrison (Steve Eischen- fiancé), of Johnson City, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A service to honor the life of J.N. Buckles will be conducted at 7:00 Pm on Saturday, October 26, 2019 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Dr. William Duncan, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday or at the residence of either daughter, at other times. Masonic Rites will be accorded after the service. The Tennessee Honor Guard will assist in the service.

    The graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 PM on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be his special friend, Steve Eischen, David Carter, Pat Story, and others selected from family and friends.

    Kate B. Williams, age 72, 129 Harry Buckles Road, Elizabethton, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday afternoon, April 6, 2004, following a brief illness.
    A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Abbagail Nave Buckles.
    Mrs. Williams was a 1948 graduate of Unaka High School.
    She and her husband Jones Williams were married on April 7, 1950 and were married for a total of 54 years.
    She was a member of the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church, the WMU of Caldwell Springs Baptist and had taught Sunday school in her church for more than 40 years.
    She was a floral designer and was retired as the former co-owner and operator of City Floral Shop.
    She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ella and Vera Buckles; four brothers, Brown, Thomas, Eston and Harry Buckles.
    She is survived by her husband, Jones Williams of the VA Nursing Home, Johnson City; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael K and Tonie Berry Williams, of Elizabethton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Garry Holly and Julie and Bill Tetrick, all of Elizabethton, a very special niece, Gail Buckles of Elizabethton; one brother, J.N. Buckles of Johnson City; seven grandchildren, Jessica Storie and Christen Williams, both of Elizabethton; Tonya Hardy of Johnson City; Erica Holly of Elizabethton; Ronda Greaves of Denville, N.J.; Ashley Tetrick and Jared Tetrick both of Elizabethton; one great grandchild, McKenzie Storie of Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews also survive.
    The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2004 at Caldwell Springs Baptist Church with Mr. Michael Williams, Dr. William Duncan and Rev. Willie Lunceford officiating. Music will be under the direction of Michael Williams, Peggy Oliver, Tina Lunceford and Kenny Storie. Burial will follow the funeral service at Buckles Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Guerney Pierce, Randy Wilson, Bill Tetrick, Doug Buckles, Randall Buckles, and Chris Long. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Tetrick, Jerry Weaver, Shane Hardy and Travis Bowling.

    Mildred "Ruby" Bowers passed away quietly January 3rd, 2016 at the age of 93. Ruby was the daughter of William McKinley and Laura Elizabeth Nave of Carter County and is a direct descendant of Teter Nave, a 1778 settler of Carter County.

    On the day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Ruby married Floyd H. Bowers. He preceded her in death after 63 years of marriage. They were devoted to each other and she looks forward to seeing him again after crossing over Jordan.

    During her years as the wife of an Air Force officer, she was a volunteer with Family Services assisting families of soldiers in need. Always willing to assist others, she continued her post-military community service becoming active in her church, First Baptist of Elizabethton, along with various veteran's and community service organizations including Disabled American Veterans, Eastern Star, American Red Cross and American Legion.

    Ruby loved a good joke and could take as well as she gave. No doubt that she this very minute is sitting with St. Peter swapping jokes and telling tales. Her sense of humor never failed her and no one who met Ruby could walk away without a smile.

    Ruby was preceded in death by her brothers Earl and Luther Nave, sister Edith, and son Michael Robert Bowers. She is survived by her sister Ella Ruth Perry, sons Edward and Ernest Bowers along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Included in these are Michael Bowers, Ruth Csanady, Cody Anderson, Melvin Nave, Peggy Shell, Thomas Perry, Kim Miller, Karen Perry, Diane Deal and Doris Carrier.

    The service to honor the life of Mrs. Bowers will be conducted January 5, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. Edward Bowers, her son, eulogist, and Mr. Michael T. Bowers, her grandson who will also deliver a eulogy. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Tuesday prior to the service.

    A graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Greg Csanady, Ed Csanady, Thomas Miller, Isaac Miller and Mike Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Perry, Melvin Nave, Phillip Minor and Dustin Jones.

She was a lifelong Carter County resident, spending her early years in Nave Hollow, growing up with two brothers and one sister. Another sister died as a young child before Ella Ruth was born. She attended Unaka schools, including Unaka High School where she played basketball.
    In the late 1940s her sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Floyd Bowers, lived next door to Ike and Martha Perry. Their son, Dean Perry, had recently returned from WWII. Dean and Ella Ruth met, “courted,” fell in love, and were married November 10, 1951.
    Ella Ruth worked at Raytheon in administration and later as the family grew, became a stay at home mom. She eventually attended ETSU and received her Bachelor’s degree in education. She taught kindergarten in Elizabethton City Schools for 27 years, the majority of those at West Side Elementary School. She was a beloved teacher and numerous students were blessed to be in her class. At one time, she even taught two of her grandchildren.
    In the 1970s Dean was the mayor and Ella Ruth was the first lady of Elizabethton.
    She enjoyed playing hymns on the piano and singing “The Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was a warm place for family to gather, and there was always something delicious to eat. Her specialties were fried chicken, vegetable beef soup, homemade biscuits, sausage gravy, and most importantly homemade candy.
    She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, the Elizabethton Women’s Club, the VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Carter County Republican Party.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings, and her husband.
    She is survived by her children, Thomas Perry (Robbi), Karen Perry, and Kim Miller (Mike); seven grandchildren, Dr. Andrew Presnell (Amanda), Ian Perry (Deanna Barton-Perry), Katie Dugger (Dustin), Isaac Miller, Erin Perry, Lauren Miller, and Thomas Miller; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to:

    Her children wish to thank Mrs. Lorraine Wilson, as well as the staff at Ivy Hall Nursing Home and Caris Hospice, for the loving care their mother received.

    It is with the greatest of sadness that the family of Virginia Carol Clark, 76, of Nashville, announce her passing to be with our father on Sunday, February 11, 2018.
    A native of Elizabethton (Stoney Creek), Tenn., she spent the best part of her life in Nashville, Tenn., and worked 31 years with Tennessee Valley Authority. Virginia made many endearing friends at TVA, who were with her in body, spirit and prayers up and to her passing. She was a member of the Winup Organization where she grew a family of exceptional sisters who as well were with her throughout her life. She was a friend to all and a stranger to none. She was and will always be dearly loved.
    She will be loving remembered by her children, Greg (Joann) Clark and Lisa Puckett, as well as two wonderful grandchildren, Megan and Andrew Clark.
    Virginia was preceded in death by her father, Eston Marcus Buckles; mother, Roxie (Odom) Buckles; eldest brother, Augustus Buckles; and son, Jeffrey Brian Clark.
    She is survived in loving memory by two siblings, brother, Douglas (Carolyn) Buckles of Stoney Creek, and sister, Voretta (Phil) French of Knoxville.

    Michael Keith Williams, 71, of Elizabethton (Stoney Creek Community), went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
    A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Jones E. and Kate Buckles Williams.
    He is survived by his precious wife of 47 years, Tonie Berry Williams. Also surviving are two daughters, Jessica Williams Manning and husband Phillip of Piney Flats and Christen Williams of Stoney Creek; a granddaughter, McKenzie Storie of Elizabethton; four grand-kitties, Puddin, Joey, Alex and Katie; two sisters, Teresa Williams Holly and husband Gary of Stoney Creek and Julie Williams Tetrick and husband Bill of Elizabethton; as well as several nieces and nephews.
    Mr. Williams was a member of Harvest Baptist Church, Elizabethton, where he served in the Jail Ministry, Bus Ministry, Sunday School Teacher and Associate Pastor under Pastor Dale Greenwell. He was a 1969 graduate of Unaka High School and a member of the football team. He was a 1991 graduate of ETSU with a Bachelor of Arts with illustration emphasis. He served in the United States Navy from 1976-1980 where he served as a corpsman. He retired from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in February 2020.
    His hobbies included hiking, building model cars, draw & air brush, going to the lake, gardening, attending church when able, attending UHS football games when able, attending Carson-Newman football games and womens basketball games when able, watching West Coast Customs and photography.
    A Service to Celebrate the life of Michael Williams will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dale Greenwell and Pastor Paul Lakus officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 18, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Section). Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Friday, will be Rev. Teddy Lewis, Rev. Frank Osborne, Mr. Donn James, Dr. Timothy Zajonc, Jamie Buckles and Randell Buckles. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present Unaka High football players, Rev. Bryan Shell, Rev. Jim Johnson, Gary Holly, Kenny Storie, Jerry Dale Greene and Phillip Manning. The family would like to thank Dr. Agnes Hamati and the entire oncology staff at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center for all the love and care through the years, Dr. Wael Shams at the VA, the entire Mountain Home staff and caregivers for their excellent care, the nursing staff at Amedisys Hospice, and Smokey Mountain Medical Equipment.
