    Walter Brown Hatley, 78, 3032 Highway 321, Hampton, died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

    Mr. Hatley was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Alvin and Minnie Arnold Hatley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Velma Hatley, August 27, 2001, six brothers, a sister and a son-in-law, George Perry.

    Mr. Hatley was a graduate of The Watauga Academy and a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation with 49 years of service. He was a Lifetime Member of the Carter County Rescue Squad.

    He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was an Ex-POW and a member of the East Tennessee Chapter American Ex-Prisoners of War.

    He attended Fish Springs Baptist Church.

    HATLEY -- Funeral services for Walter Brown Hatley, 78, 3032 Highway 321, Hampton, who died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, April 26, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Nick Bradshaw officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Lakeview Cemetery.

    Carl “Joe” Hatley, age 93, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 27, 2020, at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Joe was born in Butler, Tennessee, to the late Alvin and Minnie Arnold Hatley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Virginia Lunceford Hatley; one son, Kenneth Hatley; two daughters, Sheila Stout and Patricia Stout; and six brothers, Wayne Hatley, Clifford Hatley, Brown Hatley, Burl Hatley, Lawrence Hatley and Hubert Hatley.

    Joe retired from North American Rayon Corporation and was a United States Army Veteran, having served in World War II. He was of the Baptist faith and loved trading cars and spending time with his family.

    Those left to cherish his memory include one son, Rick Hatley, of Elizabethon; four grandchildren, Doug Stout, Amy Montgomery, Rickey Lee Hatley and Amber Nicole Ward; three great-grandchildren, Mason Montgomery, Samuel Montgomery and Connor Montgomery; and two sisters, Dorothy Pearson and Christine Payne, both of Butler, TN.

    Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A service to honor the life of Carl “Joe” Hatley will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 1, 2020, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Reverend Brian Cable and Reverend Charles Cable, officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Sunday or at the residence from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM on Saturday.

    The graveside service will follow in the Rittertown Baptist Church Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard Post #6975. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

    Christine Hatley Payne, of the Little Milligan Community of Butler, Tenn., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was 92 years young. She was a daughter of the late Alvin and Minnie Arnold Hatley and was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Payne, and several brothers and sisters.
    Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Missy Payne; two grandsons, Justin (Amanda) Payne and Jamie (Paulette) Payne; one great-granddaughter, Maleah; two great-grandsons, Jackson and Andrew; and one sister, Dorothy Pearson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    A graveside service to honor the memory of Christine Hatley Payne will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 21, in the Lakeview Cemetery in Little Milligan. Active pallbearers will be chosen from family.

    Brenda K. Perry of Elizabethton went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 10, 2021, after a brief fight with cancer. She was born April 15, 1946 to Velma Clemons Hatley and Walter Brown Hatley in Carter County, Tenn. She graduated from Hampton High School and retired from Wal-Mart after 32 years of service. Brenda was a member of New Liberty FWB Church. She had a feisty spirit and loved her family and friends with all her heart.
    Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Velma and Brown Hatley; her beloved husband, George L. Perry Sr.; her brother-in-law, Bob Tester; her cousin, Charlene Miller; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Perry; her brother-in-law, David Perry; two beloved sisters-in-law, Brenda Burleson and Joan Kyker; and a precious great-nephew, Ethan Burleson.
    Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved children, Karen (Jack) Presnell and George (Joyce) Perry Jr.; her beloved granddaughter, Jordan Alexandra Hill; her sisters, Ethel (Floyd Campbell) Hatley and Faye (Bob) Tester; her “other” daughter, Candy Johnson, and her “other” son, Junior Bailey; her sister-in-law, Barbara (Keith) Benfield; brothers-in-law, Kenny Perry, Harry (Etta) Perry, Ed Kyker and Steve Burleson; two special great-nieces, Jazzy and Bailey; special great-nephew.     Services for Brenda Perry will be Monday, December 13. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. at Tetrick Funeral Home in Elizabethton. Her funeral service will follow at 6 p.m., officiated by Pastor Nick Colbaugh. Graveside services will be at Happy Valley Memorial Park on Tuesday, December 14, at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor Tim Gouge. Pallbearers include Junior Bailey, Mickey Nidiffer, Bruce Gouge, Tim Gouge, Jeremy Burleson and Lester Julian. Honorary pallbearers include Eddie Kyker, Alan Kyker, Robert Norris, Kevin Perry, Bobby Kyker, Steven Carr, Bobby Ray Tester and Ronnie Gouge.

    Rickey Lee Hatley Sr., 66, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away unexpectedly at Sycamore Shoals Hospital on December 8, 2021. Rickey was the son of Carl and Margaret Hatley.
    Rickey was a self-employed carpet layer and of the Baptist faith.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Hatley; two sisters, Patricia Stout and Sheila Stout; and long-time girlfriend, Aleta Darnell, of the home.
    Those left to cherish his memory are a son, Rickey Hatley Jr., a niece, Amy Montgomery, and a nephew, Doug Stout, as well as several other close family members.
    Services for Rickey Hatley will be held privately for the family.

    Gary Dan Hatley, 55, 154 Sarah Anna Drive, Johnson City, was escorted by the Angels into the hands of God at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2009, in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a Carter County native. He was employeed by GDS Waste Management in Boone, North Carolina for 22 years. He was a member of the Sugar Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Chris, his father Clifford "Buckeye" Hatley and his best friend and brother Michael. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
    Survivors include his mother and step-father with whom he made his home, Kathleen Potter Hatley Hodges and Roy Reece Hodges. Four Sisters: Betty Hatley, Johnson City, Glenda Smith, Boone, NC, Kathy Jo Phillips, Vilas, North Carolina and Janice Shephard, Elizabethton. Two Brothers: Randy Hatley and Denny Hatley. Two Grandchildren: Dustin & McKinsey Hatley, Several Nieces & Nephews and Uncles.
    Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ray Greene officiating.
    Graveside Service and Interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Lakeview Cemetery. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 12 Noon Friday will be: Jim Phillips, Travis Phillips, Donnie Fletcher, Buddy Bowling, Shaun Shepard and Chad Allen.
