Mrs. Bertha O. Nichols, 93, 101 Mitchell St., Providence, R.I., died Monday morning in the Elmwood Health Center after a lengthy illness. A native of Carter County, she had lived in Rhode Island for the past 20 years and was a daughter of the late Frank and Joanne Archer Peters. Mrs. Nichols was a Protestant and was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Nichols, Sr., in 1981. Survivors include two sons, Ray Nichols, Rt. 5, Johnson City, and Carl Nichols, Charleston, S.C.; one brother, Mike Peters of Hampton; and two sisters, Mrs. Nell Pierce of Hampton and Mrs. Laura Bowers of Elizabethton. Two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The body is being returned to Elizabethton for funeral and interment. Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha O. Nichols, 93, 101 Mitchell St., Provicence, R.I., who died Monday, will be held at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday from the Sunset Chapel of Hatahway-Percy Funeral Home with Fred C. Lester, minister, officiating. Mrs. E.H. Bowers, 64, died at 1:20 pm Monday at a Kingsport hospital after several months illness. Her home was at Jonesboro, Route 5 on the Johson City-Kingsport Highway. She was born in Hampton, and had lived in Kingsport and Washington County for 33 years. She was a member of Grandview Chapter 441 of Eastern Star and was a Gold Star Mother. He son Lt. Wayne H. Bowers died in World War II. Survivors are her husband, E.H. Bowers, Route 5, Jonesboro; two daughters, Mrs. Logan G. Flanary, Kingsport; Mrs. Philip B. Hardymon, Columbus, Ohio; one son, Capt. James B. Bowers, with the U.S. Air Force in Japan; four sisters: Mrs. Laura Bowers, Elizabethton; Mrs. Nan Smith, Hampton; Mrs. Bertha Nichols, Johnson City; one brother, Mike Peters of Indiana. The body will remain in the Hamlett-Dodson Furneral Home in Kingsport where funeral arrangements will be announced later. Funeral services for Mrs. E.H. Bowers will be conducted at 3 pm Wednesday from the First Christian Church, Kingsport, with Dr. L. Palmer Young officiating assisted by Dr. Clyde Smith of the Central Christian Church of Bristol. Mrs. Laura M. Peters Bowers, 91, Rt. 2, Elizabethton, died Thursday morning, March 3, 1994 at the home of a grand-daughter, Jane Radford, Rt. 4, Elizabethton, following an extended illness. Mrs. Bowers was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Frank and JoAnn Archer Peters. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John C. Bowers in 1964, two daughters, Dimpler Farris in 1970 and Lula Mae Bowers in 1986, and by three grandchildren. Mrs. Bowers was a member of the Blue Springs Christian Church and a retired employee of Southern Cafe.

Funeral services for Mrs. Laura M. Peters Bowers, 91, Rt. 2, Elizabethton, will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday from the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home. He was a native of Johnson County, a retired farmer, the son of the late Robert and Laura Harold Peters. He was a member of the Little Doe Baptist Church. JOHNSON CITY - Howard Ruben Peters, age 90, of Johnson City, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017 at his home.

He was a native of Johnson City, and the last survivor of his parents, Charles P. and Edna Holden Peters. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Inez, Mary, Celia, Ruby, Dovie, Pearl, Edna, and Charles, Jr.

He attended Science Hill High School, and proudly served in the U.S. Army in World War II and the Korean War.

He worked as an electronic technician for the Department of the Navy in Washington D.C., and retired from General Electric in Lynchburg, VA.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the James H. Quillen V.A Medical Center and the staff of Amedysis Hospice.

The graveside service will be conducted at 10:45 A.M. Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Mountain Home National Cemetery with the V.A Chaplain officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard.

ELIZABETHTON - William "Bill" Zane Peters, age 85, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Bill was born in Hampton, Tennessee to the late Mike and Texie Calhoun Peters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Peters; and two sisters, Louise Hazlewood and Gail White; his second wife, Peggy Smith Peters; and his dog and companion, "Pandora".

Bill had worked as a pipefitter and was both a United States Army veteran and a United States Navy veteran. He was of the Protestant faith and attended Prayer Tabernacle, where he served as a deacon. Bill enjoyed riding motorcycles, woodworking, shooting muzzleloaders, riding horses and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles sports fan.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of forty three years, Mary Tyree Peters, of the home; six children, Billy Manwaring and wife Carmen, of Dallas, TX, Kitty Moore and husband Ralph, of Elizabethton, Gregory Zane Peters, of Elizabethton, TN, Charles "Cowboy" Webb, of Johnson City, TN, Wendy Webb Avery, of Johnson City, TN, and Jeremy Daniel Peters, of the home; eight grandchildren, Samantha, Zane, Julia, Stephanie, T.J., Kristi, Tamrah and Rylan; fourteen great grandchildren; two brothers, George "Buster" Peters and wife Nancy, of Deer Park, NY and Steve Peters and wife Sherrie, of Jonesborough, TN; and one sister, Carolyn Magnuson and husband Terry, of Mishawaka, IN.

A service to honor and celebrate the life of William "Bill" Zane Peters will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 29, 2018 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Johnny Hilton and Pastor Mack Presnell, officiating. Music will be provided by Ralph Moore, soloist. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Sunday, or at the residence at other times.

The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Al Garcia, Shawn Rivers, Joe Currington, Jim Kiser, Smokey Boling and Darrell Wagner.

Rose Ella Bowers Hardin, 85, passed away peacefully the morning of May 6, 2023, in Pompano Beach, Fla., after a lengthy illness. She was born October 13, 1937, to the late John C. Bowers and Laura Peters Bowers in Carter County, Tenn. Rose was a 1954 graduate of Unaka High School. She worked in the restaurant and dietary industry throughout her professional career, including positions at Northside Hospital, Westside Elementary School, and T. A. Dugger Middle School. She was a member of Westside Christian Church. She was a life-long Elizabethton High School football fan and Tennessee Lady Vol basketball fan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hardin, and five sisters, Lula Mae Bowers, Anna Belle Hardin, Ruth Pierce, Dora Carr and Dimple Farris. ELIZABETHTON — Wayne Hobert Peters, 92, 1219 Broad Street, Elizabethton was promoted to Glory Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the Ivy Hall Nursing Home.

A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Bruce and Iva Lee Reed Peters. He had lived most of his life in Carter County. He had served in the United States Navy During World War II stationed in the Pacific. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation having worked there for over 30 years. He was of the Free Will Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife: RuthaMae Slemp Peters, March 6, 1986, by an infant daughter Waynetta Ivajo Peters, four sisters: Bonnie Reynolds, Ada Chambers, Rosa Peters and Dessie McCarty and two brothers: Carl and Bob Peters.

Mr. Peters loved to farm and do carpentry work.

Survivors include Two Daughters: Judy Heaton and husband Ronnie, Elizabethton and Vicky Peters, Clam Gulch, Alaska. A Son: Gary Peters, Elizabethton. 8 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren. Several Nieces & Nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Randy Johnson and Rev. Mark Potter officiating.

Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2013 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Nathan Jennings officiating. Music will be provided by Loren Harris. LIMESTONE - Willie Peters Davis, age 90, of Limestone, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

A native and lifelong resident of Washington County, Tennessee, Willie was born September 22, 1930 to the late James Peters and Nona Mae Davis Peters. She married William “W.T.” Davis on December 13, 1948. Willie was a homemaker and an avid gardener. She loved flowers, especially roses.

Willie had attended services at First Church of the Nazarene in Elizabethton. She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, Willie was preceded in death by her husband, W.T., in 2002.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Judy (and Mackie) Parker, Joy Odom, and Susan (and Fred) Bates; sons, Ted (and Vera), Tommy (and Clara), and Terry; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Loretta Deloach, Carolyn Copas, and Francis Street.

There will be a graveside service at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at Monte Vista Memorial Park in the Garden of Meditation.

JOHNSON CITY - Dana Myrl Peters, age 84, of Johnson City, Tennessee went home to join his beloved wife on Monday, December 12, 2022 from the Johnson City Medical Center. Dana was born September 5, 1938 in Butler, Tennessee to the late Willard Spencer Peters and Winnie Mae (Robinson) Peters. In addition to his parents, Dana was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Geraldine (Blevins) Peters; and a sister, Betty (Peters) Lewis.

Dana had been employed as a truck driver in the construction business. He was a loving brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved fishing and carpentry work. Most of all Dana loved his family, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Those left to cherish Dana’s memory include his children, Greg (Wendy) Peters and Angela (Joey) Suder; his grandchildren, Amanda Lopez, Jason Peters, Austin Peters, Justin Suder, Lindsey Suder, and Lauren Suder; his great grandchildren, Ava Lopez, Adrian Lopez, Christian Peters, and Kourtnee Peters; four brothers and sisters; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family of Dana will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, December 15, 2022 in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton.

A graveside service to honor the life of Dana will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 16, 2022 in the Blevins Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

JONESBOROUGH - Jean Peters Rash, age 81, Jonesborough, left this temporary home to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Johnson City Medical Center.

Jean was a native of Carter County. She graduated from Happy Valley High School and Tri Cities Beauty School. Following her graduation, she began working at Kmart and retired as a Pharmacy Technician after 40 years of service.

She attended Chestnut Grove Union Church where she was a devoted member. We find solace knowing that Jean, a woman of profound faith, has now found peace in God’s embrace. She was a constant source of love, joy, and warmth. She will forever be remembered with deep appreciation and affection. Her legacy will continue to live on in our hearts by reminding us of the power of laughter, strength of community, and the irreplaceable impact of unconditional love.

In addition to her husband, Stacey Rash, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Tonya Kay, her parents, Clyde & Mable Peters, three brothers, Earl Peters, Freddie Peters, and Bobby Peters, and a sister, Pauline Holland.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Michele Slagle; stepson, Denver Rash; stepdaughter, April Hubbard; grandchildren, Gaige Slagle and Kayla Christian (Chris); great-grandson, Jace Christian; step-granddaughter, Sierra Hubbard; step great-grandson, Kayden; brother, Donnie Peters (Brenda); sister, Virginia Hulse (Lewis); brother-in-law, Lynn Holland; sister-in-law, Brenda Peters; special cousin, Judy Stevens; and several very close nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 PM, Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Williams officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday prior to the service.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those attending the graveside are asked to please assemble at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home at 1:15 PM to join the procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gaige Slagle, Denver Rash, Lewis Hulse, Chris Christian, Willie Mathes, and Chris Mathes.

HAMPTON - Kay Hill, age 80, of Hampton, went home to be with her Lord and rejoin her husband on Saturday, January 7, 2017 from Sycamore Shoals Hospital, following a short illness. Kay was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Charles and Emma Davis Peters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Herman Hill on May 12, 2015; two nephews, Robert Stocton and Neil Moody.

Kay was a 1954 graduate of Hampton High School and retired from Sperry/Unisys after 30 years of service. She was a member of Union Baptist Church in Hampton and enjoyed reading, gardening, genealogy and local history. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Kay Hill will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. David Montgomery and Lula Belle Street, Chaplain, officiating. Music will be provided by Alan Foster. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Tuesday; or at the residence at any time.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 in the John Whitehead Cemetery in Hampton. Active pallbearers will be George Roberson, Frank Cates, George Collins, Brian Buckner, Kenneth Rainbolt, Lester Lyons, Jackie Peters, and Chris Peters. Patsy Peters Stocton, 80, formerly of Charlotte, N.C., and currently of Johnson City, Tenn., passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was born in Carter County, Tenn., a daughter of the late Charles Peters and Emma Davis Peters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, SSG Robert E. Stocton, and one sister, Kay Hill.
Patsy was a graduate of Hampton High School and grew up attending Union Baptist Church in Hampton, Tenn. She moved to Charlotte, N.C., where she had lived for 51 years. She was a bookkeeper for Harris Teeter and a Claims Representative for Travelers Insurance. She loved to read and work puzzles.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia Cline and husband Danny, and Jeffrey Stocton and wife Gina; five grandchildren, Jessica Cline Peterson and husband Lee, Stacey Stocton Proffitt and husband Seth, Matthew Stocton and wife Ashleigh, Veda Lane, and Grayson Stocton; three great-grandchildren, Everett Proffitt, Kayleigh Stocton, Kamden Stocton, and one great-grandchild on the way; one brother, Charles Wayne Peters and wife Missy; one sister, Janey Rainbolt and husband Kenneth; and several nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
