JOHNSON CITY - Samuel Grant Greer, 87, Johnson City, died Monday, July 22, 2019, at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness.

Sam was a native of Mountain City and had been a longtime resident of Johnson City. He was a son of the late Walter Fred and Flora Annis McQueen Greer.

Sam was a 1954 graduate of Milligan College.

He worked in several capacities of the Dairy Industry throughout the Southeast Region, primarily Sales and Management, retiring in 1997, after forty-four years of service.

Sam enjoyed volunteering his time, especially at the Johnson City Medical Center, where he did so for sixteen years, the Habitat for Humanity and "Clarinda's Work Crew" at Milligan College.

Sam was a member of First Christian Church, where he served on the Board of Deacons and Elders for many years and was a member of the Win-A-Kuple Sunday School class.

He served as a Board Member of the Mountain States Auxillary, Mountain States Health Alliance Foundation, and the Habitat for Humanity.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by four sisters, Helen Moore, Gladys Hicks, Virginia Garland and Earlene Varn, two brothers, Joe F. Greer and Jack Greer, a son-in-law, Heinz Linnemann.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Sally B. Greer; three children, Chad Greer and wife Cindy, Orlando, FL, Suzanne Linnemann, Somerville, AL, Tommy Greer and wife Cay, Johnson City; four grandsons, Chris Greer and wife Lindsay, Aaron Greer and wife Brittany, Alexander Greer and wife Meg, Isaiah Greer and wife Allie; great-grandchildren, Kinsley Greer, Jayda and Adeline Greer, and soon to be born, Anderson Greer; two sisters, Ida Sue Ingram and husband Jack, Canton, GA, Barbara Grindstaff, Okeechobee, FL; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Greer and Pat Bonner; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Sam will be conducted Friday, July 26, 2019, at 5:00 P.M., from the Sanctuary of First Christian Church, with Ethan Magness, Senior Minister, and Donald Mushayamunda, Minister, officiating. Special music will be provided by Gloria Dudney, soloist. Grandsons and nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3:00-5:00 P.M. at the church.

The graveside committal service will be held Saturday at 10:00 A.M. in Monte Vista Memorial Park.

Thomas Jackson "Jack" Greer, 78, passed away on March 20, 2016.
Thomas Jackson Greer was born on October 9, 1937 to Fred and Annis Greer as the youngest of nine brothers and sisters. He graduated from Johnson County High School in 1955. After high school he attended college for a short while at Lees McRae College and then Milligan College, but after his father had a stroke, he left school to help care for his parents. Following a short but memorable career as a truck driver, hauling green beans and other types of produce, Jack began employment at Mountain Electric Cooperative in Mountain City in 1959. His career there spanned over 35 years starting on the line crew and retiring as Superintendent of Operations in 1993. The remainder of his life was spent raising cattle along with his brother-in-law Walter Simcox.
Jack was a life-long member of First Christian Church where he served as deacon, elder, and chairman of the church board. For several years Jack and Virginia worked together as Church Treasurer. He was currently serving as Trustee and participated in almost all the activities that go on at church and especially enjoyed Ken Caswells Young at Heart Ministry.
Jack and Virginia Clara Simcox were married in 1960 at First Christian Church in Mountain City, Tennessee with H. T. Mabry performing the ceremony. On November 22, 2015, they celebrated their 55th anniversary.
Their oldest son William Burl "Bill" (wife Edwina) is president of Milligan College, Donald Jackson (wife Annette) is a project manager for Maymead, Inc., and James Walter "Jim" (wife Sherri) is Director of Operations for Appalachian Electric Cooperative in New Market, Tennessee.
Jack and Virginia are the proud grandparents of seven grandchildren. They have six grandsons: Logan, Jeremy (married to Allie Blevins from Atlanta, GA), Jake, Shane, Stacy, Zane, and one granddaughter, Sarah. They also have one great-granddaughter, Presley, the daughter of Jeremy and Allie.
In addition to his immediate family Jack is survived by one brother, Sam Greer and wife Sally of Johnson City, TN, and two sisters, Ida Ingram and husband Jack, of Canton, GA, and Bobbie Grindstaff, of Okeechobee, FL, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Annis Greer, his brother Joe Greer, and sisters Virginia Garland, Helen Moore, Earlene Varn and Gladys Hicks.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the First Christian Church with the funeral service to follow at 7:30 p.m. with Minister Dwayne Dickson officiating. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the Dunn Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

LAUREL BLOOMERY - Wilma Elizabeth Greer, age 98 and a half, of Sugar Creek Rd, Laurel Bloomery, TN, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday morning, July 3, 2023, at Mountain City Care Center. She was born October 23, 1924 in Laurel Bloomery, TN to the late John F. Greer and Anna Gentry Greer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Miller; brother, Wayne Greer; sisters-in law, Ruth Blevins Greer and Kathleen Greer and brothers-in-law, Bob Morefield, Charles Hux, Vance Greer and Julian Miller, nephew, Joe Hux.

Although Wilma had no biological children of her own, she was like a mother to her nieces and nephews, as well as other children in her community. She would often take her nieces and nephews on picnics and other fun adventures. Wilma graduated in 1943 from Damascus High School and attended Andrew Jackson Business College in Nashville, TN. She also worked at several different places throughout the years as a secretary. Wilma was the oldest member of Stateline Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sisters, Iris Hux-Greer and Ethel G. Morefield; nieces and nephews, Marcia Thomas (Wade), Mike Morefield (Linda), John Morefield, Joe Morefield, Robby Morefield, Carolyn Mize (John), Tim Greer (Pam), Debbie Caffey (Bill), Lee Lewis (Wayne); several great nieces and nephews; several great-great nieces and nephews.

Per Wilma’s request she will be cremated, and no formal service will be held.
