    Helen T. Thomas, age 90, Ivy Hall Nursing Home, formerly of Sunrise Drive, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, April 10, 2006. She was a native of Carter County and was the daughter of the late John H. and Ina Nidiffer Treadway. She was a homemaker and of Free Will Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gurney Thomas; a daughter, Phyllis Thomas Taylor; son, Tony Taylor; grandson, Chris Taylor; four brothers, Harold Treadway, Guy Treadway, R.L. Treadway and Allen Treadway; three sisters, Lillian Perry, Alta Treadway and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Deloach. Survivors include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Steward and Kathleen Thomas, Gary and Kay Thomas, Edward and Edna Thomas, James "Jim" Thomas, all of Elizabethton; six grandchildren, Kenneth Thomas, Karen Thomas Timbs, Wendy Thomas Good, Michael Thomas, Rebecca Tester, Chris Roberson; ten great grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia Shipley, Louise Arnold, both of Johnson City, Faye M. Norris, Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2006, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home Elizabethton with Rev. D.C. Byrd and Rev. Burl Garland officiating. Music will be under the direction of Karen Timbs. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service hour or friends may also call at the residence of a son, Gary Thomas, 116 Rich Hollow Road, Elizabethton, anytime. The graveside service and interment will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2006, at Treadway Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Judy and Victor Deloach, Charles "Dude" LaPorte, Jack Perkins, Hazel Bergman, Kenneth Carden, Staff and Employees of Ivy Hall Nursing Home. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 10 a.m. to go in procession. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Administration and Staff, all current and former employees of Ivy Hall Nursing Home that took care of Mrs. Thomas the past thirteen and one-half years.

    Virginia Treadway Shipley, 86, of Johnson City, went home to be with her Lord on March 19, 2007, surrounded by her family.

    She was a native of Carter County and was the daughter of the late John H. and Ina Nidiffer Treadway. She was a homemaker, a Christian and of the Baptist faith.

    Ms. Shipley was most proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with them and all of her grandchildren. She also volunteered at the Senior Citizen's Center in Johnson City.

    In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Delmar McConnell; four brothers: Harold Treadway, Guy Treadway, R.L. Treadway and Allen Treadway; five sisters: Lillian Perry, Alta Treadway, Elizabeth Lizzie Deloach, Faye Norris and Helen Thomas.

    The family would like to extend a special thank you to the 2500 wing of the Johnson City Medical Center.

    Survivors include three sons and two daughter-in-laws: Elmer and Betty Shipley, Danny and Danita Shipley, Lewis Shipley, all of Johnson City; one daughter and son-in-law: Glenda and Freddie Goldsberry, of Watauga; seven grandchildren: Travis Maness, Jennifer Shipley, Rebecca Shipley, Natasha Shipley, Chris Shipley, Jessica Shipley, Alicia Shipley; two great-grandchildren: Shelby Maness and Chelsea Maness; sister: Louise Arnold, of Johnson City; and also several nieces and nephews.

    A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 PM in the Sunrise chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Reece Harris officiating. The family will receive friends from 12-2 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow in Washington County Memory Gardens.

    Grady was a painter and carpenter. He loved his grandchildren, going fishing and riding his four-wheeler.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Frances Grindstaff Deloach, who died April 19, 2003; a son, Lloyd Keith Deloach; two brothers, Carl and Jack Deloach; and two sisters, Ruby Loveless and Joyce Arnett.

    A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Alfred & Elizabeth Treadway Deloach.

    He is also preceded in death by brother, Jack Deloach; and sisters, Ruby Loveless and Joyce Arnett.

    Mr. Deloach served in the United States Army as a cook. He was a retired truck driver having retired from Carter Enterprise. Mr. Deloach was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church.

    Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Grindstaff Deloach; a daughter, Kathy Grindstaff; and his special friend and care giver, Joy Peterson; brothers, Grady Deloach and Jim Deloach; sisters, Charlotte Walker, Shirley Smith, Carolyn Jenkins and Judy Blackburn; in-laws, Jack & Josie Shook, Dave & Polly Grindstaff and Elic Grindstaff; several nieces & nephews.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Wilson officiating.

    A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late James Alfred and Elizabeth Treadway Deloach.
    He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corp.
    Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Lance Deloach; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Emily Gobble Deloach; three brothers, Carl Edward Deloach, Lloyd Grady Deloach and James C.     Shirley Ann Deloach Smith, 75, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2019, at Signature Healthcare Center following an extended illness.
    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late James Alfred and Elizabeth Treadway Deloach.
    Mrs. Smith was a dedicated and loving mother, a former employee of the American Bemberg Corporation, and was a cashier at Race Way for several years. Shirley loved arts and crafts, making floral designs and home decorations were amongst some of her favorite. She also adored the beach, sunshine, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith and attended as many guest services her health would allow.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Deloach, Carl Deloach and Grady Deloach, and two sisters, Ruby Loveless and Joyce Arnett.
    Survivors include her children, Donna Kay Presnell (Mike Wilhoit) and Ricky Lee Smith, both of Elizabethton, and four grandchildren, Tabitha Dawn Whitlock, Brandy Faith Boles, Amy Elizabeth Huskins and Amber Nichole Presnell. Shirley was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Charlotte Walker of Ohio, Carolyn Jenkins and Judy Blackburn, both of Elizabethton; and one brother, Jimmy Deloach, Elizabethton.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Doug Hinshaw officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 26, in the Deloach Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jason Russell, Jamie Jenkins, Randy Jenkins, Luke Boles, Cody Whitlock and Mike Wilhoit. Honorary pallbearer will be Junior Deloach.

    Mrs. Adams was the daughter of the late Guy and Helen Christine Russell Treadway and was a native of Carter County. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Adams. Mrs. Adams was a member of Charity Hill Freewill Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

    Mrs. Adams is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Johnny Sams, Elizabethton; two grandsons, Chris Sams and his wife Nina, Bluff City; Johnny Sams II, Elizabethton; three great-grandchildren, Chelsea Sams and Dylan Sams, both of Bluff City; Johnny Sams, III, Elizabethton; three sisters, Doris Treadway, Cathy Kent and her husband, Ron, Teresa Ballard and her husband, Ray, all of Elizabethton; two brothers, Tommy Treadway and his wife Barbara, Johnson City and Larry and Donna Treadway, Watauga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    The funeral service for Mrs. Adams will be conducted on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at 7:00 PM at the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton, with Rev. Carl Grindstaff, Rev. Steve Burleson and Rev. Tim Gouge officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 — 7:00 PM on Tuesday prior to the service and at the home of her daughter, Penny Sams, 226 Apple Tree Lane, Elizabethton, 543-1357, at other times.

    The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Bobby Ballard, Chris Sams, Keith Treadway, Jessie Treadway, Brandon Treadway, Tommy Sams, Guy Sams and Mickey Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Hermitage Health Center and Adventa Hospice.     WATAUGA - Larry Joe Treadway, age 74, of Watauga, Tennessee passed away at his residence on Sunday, July 9, 2023. Larry was born in Elizabethton, a son of the late Guy and Helen Russell Treadway. In addition to his parents, Larry was also preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Reece; and two sisters, Doris Treadway and Sue Adams.

    Larry retired from the butcher department at Food City and enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in his yard but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his beloved grandchildren.

    Those left to cherish Larry's memory include his wife, Donna Shipley Treadway of the home; his son, Brandon and wife Gen of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Gage Treadway, Caiden Treadway and Mason Treadway all of Elizabethton, Autumn Reynolds of Lebanon, VA and Jimmy Junior Reece of Elizabethton; four great grandchildren, Aiden Reynolds, Isabella Reynolds, Gabe Reynolds and Willow Reynolds all of Lebanon, VA; two sisters, Cathy Kent and Teresa Ballard and husband Ray all of Elizabethton; his brother, Tommy Treadway of Elizabethton; a special niece, Penny Sams and husband Johnny of Elizabethton; and several other nieces and nephews survive.

    It was Larry's wish to be cremated and no services are currently scheduled.

    ELIZABETHTON — Lloyd Keith Deloach, 42, 111 Chapel Drive, Elizabethton, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, in the Johnson City Medical Center as the result of a motorcycle accident.

    A native of Carter County, he was a son of Lloyd G. Deloach, Elizabethton, and the late Frances Marie Grindstaff Deloach, who died on April 19, 2003. He was a graduate of Hampton High School.

    Mr. Deloach was an employee of American Water Heater, Johnson City, for the past 10 years. He attended Charity Hill Free Will Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

    Survivors, in addition to his father, include a son, Michael A. Deloach, Elizabethton; a sister and brother-in-law, Lori Ann and Ronnie Yelton, Elizabethton; a brother and sister-in-law, Jeffery and Maxine Deloach, Elizabethton; five nieces and nephews; two great-nieces; several uncles, aunts and cousins.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Emert officiating. Graveside services and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2005, in the Deloach Family Cemetery. The Gospel Travelers Trio will provide the music.

    ELIZABETHTON - Kenneth Dale Thomas, age 54, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 22, 2021 at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Carter County, Tennessee, he was the son of Edward Thomas and Edna Hicks Thomas.

    He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alvin E. and Orla Holtsclaw Hicks, and his paternal grandparents, Gurney and Helen Treadway Thomas; his father-in-law, Shelby Williams; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

    He was a 1984 graduate of Hampton High School where he was voted “Mr. HHS” his senior year and played on the football team for four years. After graduation, he attended East Tennessee State University, graduating in 1988. He was employed by the Carter County Board of Education as a Student Management System Coordinator. He was a member of Beck Mountain Baptist Church.

    Ken enjoyed bluegrass music and went to Japan for two weeks in 2005 with a local bluegrass group and entertained the citizens of that country. He also played the doghouse bass for other musical groups in the area throughout the years.

    In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Sharon Williams Thomas; two daughters, Elizabeth (Beth) Powell and husband Brent Powell and Suzanne James and husband Caleb James; one grandson, Owen Thomas Powell; one sister and brother-in-law, Karen Joyce and Mark Timbs; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nina Williams Hyder and husband Tommy Hyder; two nephews, Cody Hyder and wife Kelly Hyder and Adam Timbs and wife Allison Timbs; one niece, Shelly Hyder Martin and husband Dave Martin; mother-in-law, Linda Williams; five aunts and three uncles, Carrie Keene, Ruby Bennett, Ruth Barrie and husband Rick Barrie, Gary Thomas and wife Kay Thomas, James (Jim) Taylor and Kathleen Thomas Carden; four lifelong friends, Sam Stout, Brian Mathes, Tim Cable and Mick Kyte and numerous cousins also survive.

    A graveside service to celebrate the life of Kenneth Dale Thomas will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Reverend Ronnie Campbell and Mr. Dwayne Calhoun, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of J.P. Mathes and Leona Mathes.
