Lonnie Oxendine Hill, 97, Hampton, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 28, 2013, in the Life Care Center of Elizabethton following a lengthy illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late George and Eva Jane Morgan Oxendine. She was a retired factory worker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart Hill; Her Sisters: Glynia Bowling, Geneva Odom and Joann Hill; and a brother: Harvey Oxendine.
She was a member of the Sunset Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter: Brenda Edwards, Telford; A Grandson: Jimmy Edwards; Two Sisters: Rosa Lee Stevens, Hampton, and Patsy Hudgins, of North Carolina; A brother & sister-in-law: Jim & Velma Oxendine, Johnson City; Several nieces & Nephews; and a special "Mamaw" to David Moody and Josh White. Her Special Friends: Katie Banner, Ted & Faye Fender and many others.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Terry Richardson and Rev. Gary Whitehead officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013, in the Peters Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Mrs. Joann B. Hill, 68, 1932 West Elk Avenue, Elizabethton, died Friday, July 6, 2012, at her residence following a brief illness.

A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late George and Eva Jane Morgan Oxendine. Mrs. Hill was retired as co-owner of the Furniture Outlet in Elizabethton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Hill; two sisters, Glynia Bowling and Geneva Odom; a brother, Harvey Oxendine; and her beloved companion, Dutchess.

Survivors include a son, Brian Buckner and wife, Kim, Elizabethton; a daughter, Terri Hughes, Elizabethton; a granddaughter, Micah Hughes, Elizabethton; a brother, Jim Oxendine and wife, Velma, Johnson City; three sisters, Lonnie Hill and Rosalee Stevens, both of Hampton, and Patsy Higgins, Morganton, NC. Several nieces and nephews and her special companion, Dutch, also survive.

Funeral service for Mrs. Joann B. Hill will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Sunday, July 8, 2012, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Gary Whitehead and Mr. Gerald Holly, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of RhodyJane Meadows.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Sunday prior to the funeral service or at the residences of any of the family members at other times.

Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 9, 2012, in Whitehead Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Roger Lambert, Eddie Odom, Danny Odom, John Holsclaw Sr., John Holsclaw Jr., Ronnie Taylor, Jimmy Oxendine and James Avery. JOHNSON CITY - Jana “A” Lisa Oxidine Buck of Johnson City, was called to her Heavenly home on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at the age of 65. Jana was a devoted wife to her husband, Mike, of 34 years.
Jana was a lifelong resident of Johnson City, Tennessee. She was a daughter of the late Robert and Marie Oxidine. She retired from the Veterans Administration after 31 years of service. She was a member of Boone Trail Baptist Church.
Jana was the kindest person you could ever meet. She had a positive impact on everyone she came into contact with. You could not go anywhere in town without her striking up multiple conversations with friends. She loved to travel, to read, and to shop, but more than anything she loved spending time with her two grandchildren. She absolutely adored them and took every opportunity to spend time with them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Jina “B” Greer. In addition to her husband Mike, she was blessed with one son, Matt Rossman, his wife Becca, and two wonderful grandchildren, Kailee and Levi. She was also blessed with step-daughter, Christy Hayes, her husband Dale, and their children, Cassie Chittum and Jason Buck. She is also survived by her four sisters: Terry Lewis and husband Earl; Karen Ewing and husband Bill; Robin Oxidine; Pam Arrowood and husband Tom; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7:00 PM on November 21, 2021, at Tetrick Funeral Services in Johnson City with her son Matt Rossman officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM before the service. A graveside committal service will be held the following morning at the Mountain Home National Cemetery

William "Billy" Forbes, 80, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Heavenly Father Saturday, October 26, 2013, in the Johnson City Medical Center surrounded by his devoted family. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late William Milburn Forbes Sr. and Florence Anna Oxendine Forbes. He retired from Inland Container after 37 years of service. Billy was an avid fisherman and spent many hours devoted to Christian Mission Works. He attended the House of Prayer and took an active part in Bible Study and Sunday School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Jack M. JOHNSON CITY - Jo Ann Forbes Blankenship, 79, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Jo Ann was born in Carter County on December 18, 1939 to the late William Milburn and Florence Anna Forbes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, George W. "Pete" Blankenship; and two brothers, William "Bill" Forbes and Jack M. Forbes.

Jo Ann was a 1957 graduate of Elizabethton High School. She graduated from Baptist School of Nursing in Memphis (1960) where she received her RN. Jo Ann was a graduate of East Tennessee State University where she received both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (1984) and Master of Education (1987) degrees. She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Honor Society.

Jo Ann was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and diligent community servant. Jo Ann attended Watauga United Methodist Church. She retired as a registered nurse after 39 years of service with 38 of those years being at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center at Mountain Home. She spent most of those years working in the Operating Room Department. In the OR she first worked as a staff nurse, was promoted to head nurse and then led the department as the OR nursing supervisor. She was a member of the State of Franklin Association of Operating Room Nurses, American Nursing Association, Tennessee Nurses Association, and the Tri-Cities Association of Operation Room Nurse (Past President and board of directors).

Upon her retirement, Jo Ann served Carter County for 16 years as a Commissioner representing the Fifth District. She also served the community by being on the boards of and volunteering with numerous organizations including the West Carter County Volunteer Fire Department, the Jane and Charlie Bayless Scholarship Fund, and Sycamore Shoals Hospital. In retirement, Jo Ann became a talented artisan working with many different materials to create beautiful jewelry. She loved the time that she spent at jewelry school with her sister. She was a great fan of UT football and basketball. Jo Ann's most beloved activity was spending time with her grandchildren and other family members.

Those left to cherish her loving memory include: son, George W. Blankenship, Jr. and wife Jennifer (Elizabethton); grandson, Jacob Blankenship (Elizabethton); granddaughter, Natalie Blankenship (Elizabethton); brothers, Roy Forbes and Erma Stevens (Elizabethton); brother, E. Wesley Forbes and wife Linda (Elizabethton) and Duane Forbes and wife Loretta (Elizabethton); sister, Edith Delp and husband Ray (Panama City Beach, FL); sisters-in-law, Mary Forbes (Elizabethton), Dorothy Forbes (Elizabethton), Nancy Gale Broyles and husband Charles "Chuck" (Johnson City) and Marie Blankenship (Elizabethton); and several nieces and nephews.

A service to honor and celebrate the life of Jo Ann Forbes Blankenship will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway Percy Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Reverend Leann Crandall and Reverend Mike Berry, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Tuesday.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Craig Shubert, Michael Harris, Chuck Broyles, Wesley Forbes, and Jacob Blankenship. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elizabethton High School Class of 1957

Elige Wesley Forbes was born on March 30, 1942 in Elizabethton, Tenn. He was the son of Florence Ann (Oxendine) and Will Forbes, residents of Elizabethton, Tenn. Wes passed away on May 7, 2022 in Orlando, Fla. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving sister, Joann Blankenship, and his brothers, Roy Forbes, Jack Forbes and Bill Forbes.
Wes graduated from Hampton High School, Class of 1960, in Hampton, Tenn. He was a member of the State Championship Basketball Team and was in charge of the Class of 1960 Scholarship Fund. He was also a member of the Sports Hall of Fame for his basketball skills during his high school years at Hampton High School.
After high school graduation Wes served four years in the United States Navy. Wes retired from Averitt Trucking Company where he was a maintenance director for many years.
Wes is survived by his loving wife, Linda M. Forbes; his two sons, Dr. Wesley Scott Forbes and wife Dr. Jennifer Forbes of Green Bay, Wis., and Bryan Forbes and wife Susan Forbes of Knoxville, Tenn. He is also survived by his sister, Edie Delp and husband Dr. Ray Delp of Panama City Beach, Fla.; his brother, Duane Forbes and wife Loretta Forbes of Elizabethton, Tenn.; his wonderful sister-in-law, Mary Forbes of Elizabethton, Tenn.; and by his grandchildren, Raegan Forbes and Matthew Forbes of Knoxville, Tenn.
A memorial service for family and friends of Wes will be held at a later date.

Billy Glen Johnson, 79, Roan Mountain, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Franklin Woods Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Bill E. and Daisy Oxendine Johnson.
Bill’s occupation was auto repair. He was owner of Johnson-Roan View Cemetery. He loved cars and motorcycles. He was of the Free Will Baptist Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Powell Johnson, who passed away October 13, 2021; a brother, Charlie Johnson; and his daughter-in-law, Carmelita Johnson.
Survivors include his sons, Jack and Johnny Johnson; six grandchildren, B.J. Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Dakota Johnson, Payton Johnson, Madelyn Johnson and Madison Johnson; two great-granddaughters, Lilly Bea Johnson and Birdy Jane Johnson; and one brother, Pete Johnson.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 6, in the Johnson Roan-View Cemetery with Pastor Randy English officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers will be Brandon Johnson, Patrick Johnson, Rick Miller, Danny Street, Nick Johnson, Dakota Johnson and B.J. Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jamie Johnson, Jason Johnson and his many friends.

ELIZABETHTON - Gayla Sue Oxendine Graves, 79, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was born July 10, 1943, in Elizabethton to the late John & Christine Smith Oxendine. Gayla was a 1961 graduate of Elizabethton High School. She was a retired employee of Raytheon Corporation, Bristol after thirty-four years of service. She loved flowers, bird watching and shopping. She was a member of Borderview Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband Maurice “Moe” Graves. Two Daughters: Jody Shipley and wife Laura and Tina Hardin. One Granddaughter: Zoe Shipley. Two Stepsons: Buzz and Tracy Graves and her cat Tila. One Aunt: Joann Cable, Two Uncles: Terry Smith and Tom Oxendine. Also, several cousins.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2023, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Sammy Oxendine and Mr. Scott Fisher, Ministers officiating. Music will be provided by the Sacred Journey. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 2023, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be Joseph Greenwell, Wes Johnson, Jimmy Cable, Chris Timmons, Joel Norris and Stevie Burrough.
