William Hunter Bowers, age 43, a well-known resident of Elizabethton died suddenly Tuesday 12:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted from the First Free Will Baptist church Thursday afternoon at 5:00 o'clock with the Rev. William Cleary and Rev. Houston Blevins in charge. Interment will be in the Colbaugh cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Emma Grindstaff Bowers; two sons, Eugene and Howard Bowers, Elizabethton; one daughter, Miss Thelma Bowers, Elizabethton; three half-brothers, Frank Fitzsimmons, of the U.S. Army, Eugene Fitzsimmons, Elizabethton, and Grant Hardin, Elizabethton.
Pallbearers are: Carl King, Buck Edens, Bob Shell, John Bellamey, Earl Elswick, Dave McQueen, Lum Arnett, and Patton Brookshire.

JOHN DeLOACH
John DeLoach, 56, a veteran of World War I, died at the Mountain Home veterans' facility Friday at 2:15 a.m. after a brief illness. Mr. DeLoach served in France from August 20, 1918 to March 11, 1919.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Abbie Stout DeLoach; two sons, Walter and James DeLoach, all of Valley Forge; and two daughters, Mrs. Laura Colbough also of Valley Forge; and Mrs. Lena Nave of Elizabethton; three brothers, Bill DeLoach of Gap Creek, Nat and Mack DeLoach of Butler; and one sisters, Mrs. Joe Adams, of Butler; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 12:30 p.m. at the Free Will Baptist Church of Valley Forge with the Rev. Farrell Sparks and the Rev. R. S. Stockton officiating. The body will be buried with military honors at the National Cemetery in Johnson City.

Funeral services for John DeLoach, 56, of Valley Forge, who died in the Veterans Administration Hospital at Mountain Home Friday at 2:15 a.m., will be conducted from the Free Will Baptist Church of Valley Forge at 12:30 p.m. with the Rev. Farrell Sparks and the Rev. R. S. Stockton officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Paul Headrick, Ed Hathaway, Earl Arney, Hugh Jenkins, James DeLoach, Clate Trivett, and John Montgomery.
Flower bearers will be selected at the services.
Following the services at the church the body will be taken to Mountain Home for burial. Full military honors will be rendered at the cemetery.
Mr. DeLoach was a member of the American Legion and a veteran of World War I. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Abbie Stout DeLoach; two sons, James and Walter DeLoach of Valley Forge; two daughters, Mrs. Calvin Colbaugh of Valley Forge and Mrs. Roy L. Nave of Elizabethton; three brothers, Mike and Nat DeLoach of Butler; and Bill DeLoach of Gap Creek; one sister, Mrs. Joe Adams of Butler and five grandchildren.
The body was moved to the home Saturday afternoon where it will remain until 11:30 a. m. Monday when it will be moved to the church to lie in state until the funeral hour.

Eugene Bowers, 76, 704 S. Riverside Drive, Elizabethton, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness.

Mr. Bowers was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Hunter and Emma Crosswhite Bowers. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Goforth, and his stepfather, Agee D. Williams.

Mr. Bowers was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Elizabethton and a retired mechanical draftsman with Great Lakes Research Corporation.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Edens Bowers, of the home; a daughter, Debra Bowers Pierce, Elizabethton; a brother and sister-in-law, J. Howard and Rowena Bowers, Johnson City; a sister, Elaine Proffitt, Bluff City; and four nephews, Kenny Goforth, Kingsport, Rick Bowers, Jonesborough, Robert and Mark Proffitt, both of Bluff City.

J. Howard "Lefty" Bowers, 90, of Johnson City, Tenn., passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at The Waters of Johnson City, Tenn. He was a native of Elizabethton, Tenn., and son of the late Hunter Bowers and Emma Crosswhite Bowers. Howard's hobbies were running, weightlifting, bicycle riding, golf, and horseback riding. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, son, three granddaughters and great-granddaughter and also watching his son and granddaughters play sports. Howard also donated his time by volunteering at ETSU, Holston Habitat for Humanity, and the Veterans Administration.
Howard proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Howard held a Doctorate of Education from the University of Tennessee where he was a research associate and retired as Professor of Education at East Tennessee State University. He taught at Unaka Elementary, coached football at Unaka High School and Tennessee High where he was also a health and science teacher. Mr. Bowers then taught at Elizabeth City Elementary and Jr. High schools and was the school superintendent in Elizabeth City schools.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his step-father, Agee Williams; his brother, Eugene Bowers; and his sister, Thelma Goforth.
Those left to cherish Howard's memory include his loving wife, Rowena Shipley Bowers; son, Rick Bowers; granddaughters, Emma Bowers of Greenville, S.C., Hannah Bowers and Rachel Bowers of Jonesborough, Tenn.; nephew, Kenneth Goforth of Kingsport, Tenn.; niece, Debra Gene Pierce of Elizabethton, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Mary Bowers of Elizabethton, Tenn.; step-sister, Elaine Profitt; and several cousins.
The family will greet friends to share memories on Wednesday, November 1, from 1 until 2 p.m. at the Mausoleum Chapel at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton with a Celebration of Life service at 2 p.m. with Dr. Tim Ross officiating. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Stacey McClain, one sister: Laura Colbaugh and two brothers: Walt & Jay Deloach all of Elizabethton. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Manuel, Spencer and Robert Deloach. Survivors include two sisters: Pauline Poole, Elizabethton, and Effie Garland, Butler; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Lyons officiating. Mrs. Poole was a native of Johnson County but had lived in Carter County for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Nat and Pearl Whaley Deloach. She was a member of the Hampton Free Will Baptist Church and was a Homemaker. She was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers. Robert Glen Deloach, 79, 335 Tenn. Highway 91, Elizabethton, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home.

Mr. Deloach was a Butler native and a son of the late Nat and Pearl Whaley Deloach.

He was a retired painter and farmer.

Mr. Deloach was a World War II Army veteran. He received two Purple Hearts, the Oak Leaf Cluster and four Bronze Service Stars.

Mr. Deloach was a member of Pierce Baptist Church, Butler.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Manuel Deloach and Spencer Deloach.

Survivors include three sisters, Ina Mae Deloach, of the home, Pauline Poole, Elizabethton, and Effie Garland, Butler; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W.H. Garland, October 21, 2005; by three brothers, Manuel, Robert and Spencer Deloach; and two sisters: Pauline Poole and Ina Mae Deloach.

Survivors include a daughter & son-in-law: Elizabeth & Junior McQueen, Butler; A Son: Bobby Garland, Butler. Four Grandchildren: Todd Garland, Butler, Amy Phillips and her husband, Eddy, Mountain City, Jason McQueen, Butler, and Candice Garland, Elizabethton; Several Nieces & Nephews; Five Sisters-In-Law; Her Special Friends: Bonnie Stout, Grace Glover and Bernice Garland.

He was a retired construction worker.

Alfred Lyons, 73, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2013, at the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Sam and Lula DeLoach Lyons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Lee Lyons; three brothers, Nathaniel, John and Jim; and four sisters, Mary Oliver, Blanche Bishop, Delia White and Rose Guess.

Mr. Lyons was the former owner and operator of Carter County Paint and Body Shop and was of the Christian faith. He loved hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of fifty five years, Zelma Walker Lyons, of the home; one daughter, Sharon K. Birchfield and husband, Paul, Roan Mountain; one son, Billy Joe Lyons and wife, Kim, Telford; one sister, Shirlene Sams, Kingsport; ten grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A gathering of remembrance visitation for Mr. Lyons will be held from 7:00 PM-8:00 PM on Monday, February 11, 2013, in the Fireside Room of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton.

Ruby Deloach Morton,95, Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Bill & Mae Lipford Deloach. She was retired as a cook from Happy Valley High School. She also worked as a CNA at Hillview Health Center for 23 years. Ruby loved to cook, music and loved being around kids. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three husbands: David Cliff Morton, Roy Huskins and Luther Morton, three brothers: Buddy Deloach, Herbert Deloach and Cliff Deloach and two sisters: Julie Deloach Carr and Lula Bell Deloach Frazier. Ruby was a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Ruby was an inspiration to all who knew her. She always was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with family and friends. All who knew Ruby loved Ruby. She was inducted into the Happy Valley High School Hall of Fame in 1994.

Survivors include three step-sons, Michael (Connie) Morton, Jeff (Sherry) Morton and Teddy Morton; two step-daughters, Jane Michalski and Iva Lee (Earnest) Garland; two step-grandsons, Chris Morton and Teddy Joe Morton Jr.; three step-granddaughters, Libby Sims, Baleb Kunath and Autumn Sims; four step-great-grandchildren; her special nieces, Brylee “Dolly” Stevens, Honery Dugger, Vivian Dugger, Samantha Stevens, Karen Tester and Karen Applegate; her special nephews, Bubba Dugger and Caden Bryant; her sister, JoAnn Jarrett; and her special sister, Betty Stevens.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 17, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Earnest Garland officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers will be David Bryant, Dustin Bryant, Chad Bryant, Shawn Stevens, Johnny Vines, Bill Applegate, Michael Morton, Jeff Morton, Teddy Morton and Ernie Garland. Honorary pallbearers will be former students and faculty of Happy Valley High School.

William Buddy Deloach, 79, 170 River Road, Elizabethton passed away Sunday January 11, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late William Bill and Roxie Mae Lipford Deloach. He was a retired School Bus Driver with the Carter County School System and also worked as a Cab Driver with the Graham Cab Company. He was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Deloach and a sister, Julie Carr.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years: Charlotte Burrow Deloach. A son & daughter-in-law: Bill & Michelle Deloach, Elizabethton. A daughter & son-in-law: Betty & Rick Walker, Elizabethton. Two Grandchildren; Travis Walker and Leah Deloach, Two Step-Grandchildren: Cody Carter and Trista Freeman. Two Great Grandchildren: Payton & Hannah Norris. Four Sisters: Lula Frazier, Betty Stevens, Ruby Morton and husband Luther and Joann Jarrett and husband Bob. One Brother and sister-in-law: Clifford & Loretta Deloach. Graveside Services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. James Hawk officiating. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday will be: Doug Markland, Rob Miller, Myran Montgomery, Ritchie Burrow, Lawrence Hodge and Tommy Widener. Honorary pallbearers will be: JM Peters, Jim Buchanan, Roger Burrow, Bob Jarrett, Dr. Stephen May and Luther Morton. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Home Hospice for their loving care and support. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Clifford Deloach, Sr., 72, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at his residence in Elizabethton.

He was a native of Butler and a son of the late, William and Roxie Mae Lipford Deloach. He was also preceded by 1 sister, Julie Carr and 2 brothers, Herb and Buddy Deloach.

Mr. Deloach was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

He had worked for over 20 years for ET&WNC Transportation and was retired from Penske Transportation as a Deisel Mechanic.

Survivors include; his wife of 53 years, Loretta Peters Deloach; one son, Clifford Deloach, Jr of Johnson City; two daughters, Tammy Bentley and her husband Steve of Elizabethton and Connie Delph of Jonesborough; three Grandchildren, Christy Manning and her husband Michael and Gary Delph, Jr and his wife, Mandy all of Johnson City and Stephen Aaron Bentley of Elizabethton; three great Grandchildren, Blake Delph, Kaelyn Delph and Adam Michael Manning all of Johnson City; four sisters, Ruby Morton, Lula Belle Frazier and JoAnn Jarrett all of Elizabethton and Betty Stevens of Hampton; several nieces and nephews also survive. Special friends, Archie Robinson, Larry Shoun, Paul Clawson and James Phipps.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 pm Wednesday, June 1, 2011 from the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Charles Knight and Rev. Kenley Knight will officiate. Burial services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday from the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Gary Delph, Stephen Bentley, Travis Bates, Chad Bryant, Steve Bentley and Michael Manning. A procession will leave the funeral home for the cemetery at 9:40 am Thursday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00pm on Wednesday. Lula Bell "Lou" Deloach Frazier, 76, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, Thursday, October 26, 2017, after a battle with cancer.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Bill and Mae Lipford Deloach.
Lou was a retired cook at Happy Valley High School. Lou loved her family, grandchildren and her church and loved doing woodwork and working in her garden. She was a member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Washington Frazier, who died November 21, 2007; a sister, Julie Carr; and three brothers, Buddy, Cliff and Herbert Deloach.
Survivors include her children, Karen Applegate and husband Bill and David Bryant and wife Melissa, all of Elizabethton; six grandchildren, Dustin Bryant, Chad Bryant, Jamie Carpenter, Kristen Campbell, Cassie Lowe and Travis Bates; five great-grandchildren, Dayton Whitehead, Cassidy Carpenter, Jayce Lowe, Callie Lowe and Caden Bryant; her sisters, Ruby Morton, Betty Stevens and JoAnn; several nieces and nephews; and two special sisters-in-law, Loretta Deloach and Charlotte Deloach.
Funeral services for Lula Bell "Lou" Deloach Frazier will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 29, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Randy Johnson and the Rev. Mark Potter officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Michael Carpenter, Dustin Bryant, Chad Bryant, Travis Bates, Bill Applegate, Johnny Vines, Robert Campbell, Jack Whitehead, Dayton Whitehead and Jackson Lowe. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Bates, Robert Carr, Herman Carr, Shannon Whitehead and R.L. Potter. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the staff of Amedisys Hospice, Johnny Vines, whom she thought of as a second son, Jack and Teresa Whitehead and family, Charlotte Hodge and Sue Hyde for all the help during Lou's illness.
