Shirley Faye Long, 84, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 8, 2022, from her residence. Shirley was born in Canebreak, W.Va., to the late George Washington Stout and Lucy Alice Oaks Stout. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Holsclaw; her second husband, Roy Clyde Long; and her brothers and sisters, Myrtle, Hilda, Clyde, Dewey, Carl, Pauline, George, Dorothy, Frankie, Arthur, JoAnn, Sonny and Leland.
Shirley was a homemaker and loved her children dearly; she also loved her church, music and singing. She had actually sang with Southern Harmony. Shirley had a strong work ethic and had held several jobs and in each one, she gave her all. She had worked at furniture manufacturing, Magnavox and in the kitchen at Hampton Elementary School. Shirley was an excellent cook and loved baking cakes and treats.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Jimmy Holsclaw, Danny Holsclaw, Angela Ward, Christopher Holsclaw, Crystal Aleman and Regina Crowder; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Christine and Faye. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A celebration of life for Shirley Faye Long will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 13, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Willie Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 14, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Mrs. Margaret Stout Reynolds, 82, of Mint Hill, NC and formerly of Elizabethton, TN, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Lake Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Cumberland, KY, to the late Madison and Cynthia Oaks Stout. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Reynolds; 2 infant brothers; 3 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Mrs. Reynolds was a lifetime member of the PTA, Carter County Home Demonstration Club, and very involved at East River Park Christian Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Glenda Minott and husband Bob Mint Hill, NC; son, Terry Reynolds and wife Becky of Ft. Mill, SC; grandchildren, Benjamin Reynolds and wife Elizabeth, Scott Reynolds and wife Gina, Hollye Sammons and husband Brian, Ashleigh Cupp and husband Brandon, Michelle Gregory, Joseph Minott and wife Katie, and Jeffrey Minott and wife Lauren; 19 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sisters, Mary Whittenbarger of Lynch, KY, and Shirley Johnson of Johnson City, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Reynolds will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday, June 5, 2013 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. John Smith, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Wednesday.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 9:00 AM Thursday, June 6, 2013, in Reynolds Cemetery. Hazel was born on December 29, 1912, in the Elk Mills community of Carter County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Alvin Stout and Fannie Andrews Stout.

On August 16, 1930, Hazel married Harry Shultz McCloud. They had six children: Peggy, Bud, Derl, Jerry, Bill and Jackie. She "loved her children and we knew it," said Derl.

The entire family worked on the farm and helped with household chores, and they did not have a lot of leisure time. However, they owned a hand-cranked phonograph and listened to the radio. Hazel also enjoyed reading detective stories she ordered through the mail, and she taught herself to play the piano. All the family were members of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church.

After the children were grown, Harry and Hazel loved to take long drives on Sundays; they would drive as far as they could in one day and make it back home. They often drove on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

On Wednesday, January 19, 2022, a precious soul returned to her Savior and her family gone before her. Bernice Belle Hatley Whaley, 89, of the Elk Mills Community in Butler, Tenn., passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Hillview Health and Rehabilitation Center of Elizabethton. Bernice was born to the late Clifford Filmore Stout and Bonnie Rose Potter Stout. In addition to her father and mother, Bernice was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul O’Dell Hatley; her beloved brothers, Charles (Christine) Stout and Beryl Stout; a special nephew, Johnny Stout; several aunts and one uncle; and a son-in-law, Ralph Edison Miller.
Bernice was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a sweet lady and always had a smile on her face and a kind word for anyone she met but she was firm as well. Hard work and charity was a way of life for Bernice and her willingness to obey the Lord and his word was instilled in her at a young age. She was a member of Elk Mills Christian Church.
Bernice was an integral part of her community and in her neighbors’ lives because anytime any of them were in need, Bernice was there to lend a helping hand. She was a bus driver for the Carter County School System and also worked as an inspector at C&A Lingerie. Bernice loved to dance when she was able, crocheting, sewing, and playing cards and Chinese checkers. Her greatest joy was her family and spending time with them. In fact, Bernice helped raise her granddaughter, Abbi, and it was her joy to do so.
Those left to cherish Bernice’s beautiful legacy include her husband, Luther Whaley, of the home; her daughters, Pat (Eddie) Clawson and Paulette Hatley Miller; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jason Edward (Amber) Clawson and their daughters, Lucchese Lee Clawson and soon-to-be Sage McKinley Clawson, Angela Michelle Walsh (Sam Maney) and her daughter, Abigail Summer Blevins, and Michael Vincent (Michele) Walsh and their daughter, Faith Walsh; and her very special friends, Doug and Kelley Carter.
The family wishes to invite Bernice’s friends and family to attend the visitation between the hours of 12 and 1 p.m., prior to the graveside service on Sunday, January 23. The graveside service will follow in the Bunton Cemetery with Rev. Gary Bowman officiating. Pallbearers will be Alex Matthews, Michael Walsh, Jason Clawson, Kevin Ward, Sam Maney, Eddie Clawson, Doug Carter and Earl Walsh. Elsie Marie Cable Buckingham, 84, of Gray, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Raven “Buck” Buckingham; parents, W.R. and Pauline Stout Cable; two sisters, Wilma Yap and Trilla Mottern; paternal grandparents, William Millard and Sarah Ellen Davis Cable; and maternal grandparents, John R. and Lillie Belle Gilliland Stout.
Left to honor her memory are two sons, Charles Raven Buckingham II and Timmy Lynn Buckingham (Cindy); three granddaughters, Makayla (Raven), Dakota and Taylor (Tim and Cindy); one brother, Lowell Cable; and sisters Theona Moorehouse, Joan Anderson (Ward), Connie Latner (Donnie) and Sherri Lawson (Tim); along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Marie was a graduate of Jonesborough High School and attended East Tennessee State University. Marie and Buck were married March 19, 1959. She was a long-distance operator for Southern Bell Telephone, a bookkeeper and teller for First People’s Bank, a bookkeeper and teller for Banking & Trust, and retired from ETSU’s Sherrod Library cataloguing department in technical services.
Marie was a member of Kingsport Church of Christ. She was very strong in her faith and in her love of family; her granddaughters were the light of her life. Her love of family spiked her interest in genealogy, a lifelong passion. She published her decades-long research of the Cable family in 2001; she dedicated it, in part, to her sons for enduring a cluttered dining room table for years and to Connie and Donnie Latner for their expertise and patience teaching Marie how to use a computer to make this voluminous work possible. The book has become a treasure, not only to her immediate family, but to many distant relatives who research their own families’ histories. For many years, she was instrumental in organizing the Cable Family Reunion in Cranberry, N.C. Marie loved to cook and was an avid collector of recipes which she enthusiastically tried and shared with friends and family.
Family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 21, at Tetrick Funeral Home in Johnson City, followed by the funeral service at 7 p.m. officiated by Donnie Cable. Leslie Montgomery will lead congregational singing. Burial will be at noon Tuesday, March 22, at Monte Vista Memorial Park, Johnson City. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery no later than 11:50 a.m. Pallbearers will be Donnie Ray Latner, Tim Lawson, Jerry Hicks, Daniel Jeter, Todd Bailey, Dana Barker, Cody Long and Eric Ottersbach.

It is with deep sad-ness that we an-nounce the pass-ing of our be-loved hus-band, father, and grand-father, Glen (Bud) McCloud, of But-ler, TN, who, at home and sur-rounded by his lov-ing fam-ily, passed on April 4, 2015.
Glen, 81, was born on Au-gust 13, 1933, and lived the ma-jor-ity of his life in But-ler.
Glen was mar-ried to Jewel Dean (Ward) McCloud, on Au-gust 4, 1955. They were mar-ried 59 years. Glen, along-side his wife, raised four fine chil-dren. He is sur-vived by his wife and his chil-dren; son, Tim (wife, Gaye); daugh-ter, Judy (McCloud) Lam-bert (hus-band, Ed-die); son, Randy (wife, Bar-bara); and son, Steve (wife, Laura). He is also sur-vived by his sis-ter, Jackie Warden; two broth-ers, Jerry (and wife, Mar-ga-ret) and Derl (and wife, Gla-dys); as well as his pre-cious grand-chil-dren and great grand-chil-dren; and many, nieces, neph-ews and other spe-cial fam-ily mem-bers and friends.
Glen was pre-ceded in death by his mother, Ha-zel Marie (Stout) McCloud; and his father, Harry S. McCloud; his sis-ter, Peggy McCloud Jump; and his brother, Bill McCloud.
Glen attended Hampton High School. He was a decorated veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 19501959.
For many years, Glen was the owner and operator of McCloud's Automotive in Elizabethton. He was also employed as Master Automotive Technician by Dennis Powell Chrysler Plymouth and Carl Gregory in Johnson City. Mr. McCloud retired from Carl Gregory in 2002, and then traveled across the country and internationally with two of his sons working as a millwright from 20022008.
In his spare time Glen enjoyed reading, watching college football and playing board games with family and friends.
Glen, a man of integrity, will always be remembered through his legacy of honesty, generosity, dedication and fair dealing. His witty sense of humor brightened the lives of his family and everyone who knew him.
Family was of utmost importance to Glen. He genuinely and deeply loved his family. Throughout his lifetime he made opportunities to share special time, and make cherished, lifetime memories with his family.
Glen demonstrated commitment and service as a leader in his church. He served our Lord and Savior with devotion through his unwavering dedication to Butler Baptist Church as a church leader and as Chairman of the Deacons for many years.
The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Elizabethton.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Daniel Woods and Rev. Derl McCloud officiating.
Interment will follow at Butler Memorial Cemetery, Butler, TN. Music will be provided by Rev. Daniel Woods and Teresa Chaplain. Military Honors will be provided by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers will be Sons & Grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Derl McCloud, Jerry McCloud, Larry Smith, Chuck Whitney and Vaughn Potter.

Dallas G. “Jerry” McCloud, age 83, passed away on June 20, 2022 at Watauga Medical Center. He was born on August 27, 1938 to the late Harry S. McCloud and Hazel M. Stout McCloud. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Jump and brothers, Bill McCloud, Derl McCloud, and Bud McCloud.

Jerry was raised in Butler, TN and sang with the McCloud Family for several years. Also, him and his wife Margaret delivered mobile meals in Creston, NC for many years. Jerry served his country in the United States Air Force.

Those left to cherish his memories include the love of his life, best friend, and loving wife of 56 years, Margaret Osborne McCloud; sister, Jackie Warden; sisters-in-law, Jewel Dean McCloud, Jenny Osborne; brother-in-law, Raymond Osborne and wife Mary and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Preacher Ricky Campbell officiating. ELIZABETHTON - George Thomas Skeans, 77, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, February 17, 2023 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Gordon & Ellen Stout Skeans. He was a retired Captain with the Carter County Sheriff’s Department. In earlier years, he was employed as a mechanical Engineer. He loved gardening, hunting and fishing. George was a member of Union Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Marley Skeans, two brothers: Cyril and Bill Skeans and one sister; Mary J. Morgan. George was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge # 750 and was a 32nd degree Mason.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years: Dorothy Vest Skeans; one daughter & son-in-law: Debbie & Mike McKinney, Jonesborough; two sons & daughters-in-law: Tom & Jenny Skeans and Tim & Tammy Skeans all of Elizabethton; four granddaughters: Brittany Skeans of the home, Cora Kelley, Jonesborough, Sydney Potter and Lindsey Hunter all of Elizabethton; two grandsons: Rick Skeans and Bryson Lynch and five great-grandchildren; two sisters: Elsie Sams, Watauga; and Margaret Fields, Hampton; a brother-in-law: Harry Morgan, Elizabethton; one brother: Ed Skeans, Watauga; two sisters-in-law: Judy Skeans and Lavonna Skeans, both of Elizabethton; one uncle: Bobby Stout and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Howard Dana Guy, 82, of Canton, Ga., passed away on September 23, 2021, at his residence.
Howard was born in Avery County, N.C., to the late Dana Guy and Ruth Stout Guy. In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his brother, William “Bill” Hicks, and sisters, Alma Church, Shirley Potter and Mabel Maxine Guy.
Howard Guy was a devoted husband who treasured his beautiful wife of 63 years, Crystal Rose Guy. He was a loving Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend to many. He was an expert fisherman who loved being outdoors. He was a singer with a beautiful voice and a wonderful friend who never met a stranger. He retired as a Supervisor with Ford Motor Company.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Crystal Rose Guy; daughters, Joy Annette Severino (John) of Canton, Ga., Tammy Rose Phipps (Ricky) of Woodstock, Ga., and Sharon Lynn Angel (Michael) of Woodstock, Ga.; son, Howard “Keith” Guy of Canton, Ga.; grandsons, Joshua Keith Moore, Jason Severino (Lori), Jesse Severino and Jackson Severino, Dakoda Phipps, Anthony Fernandez, Gabriel Fernandez and Keith Lee Guy, Ian Maynard; granddaughters, Sharon Rose Harden, Mechelle Karolyi, Amber Hyatt, Crystina Ruth Howard and Rebecka Quinn; great-grandchildren, Naomi, Olivia, Jolynn, Jasper, Ledger, Luke, Jazmine, Johnathon, Mason and Raven; sisters, Wilma Henthorn, Joyce Dugger, Sandra Nunley and Vickie Whaley; Uncle, Pastor Bobby Stout; and special double first cousin, Creed Guy. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 16, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, from 5 until 7 p.m. A service to honor and celebrate the life of Howard Guy will be conducted on Sunday, October 17, in the Piney Grove Church of Christ at 1 p.m. with Mr. Dean Estep, minister, officiating. The graveside service will be in the Piney Grove Church of Christ Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joshua Moore, Dakoda Phipps, Travis Guy, Jamie Guy, Terry Anderson, Joe Hollyfield and Jason Lerczak.
