    ELIZABETHTON — Alta C. Smith, 95, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, May 23, 2008, in the North Side Hospital.

    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late James Frank and Maggie Treadway Clark. Mrs. Smith was a former employee of North American Rayon Corporation. She was a member of the Big Springs Church of Christ. She was a member of T.O.P.S. and was an avid reader.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carmon C. Smith; Two Sisters: Dorothy Webb and Helen Lewis; and Three Brothers: Ralph, Ray & John Clark.

    Survivors include Three Daughters & A Son-in-Law: Jane Smith, of the home, Nancy Lampe, Knoxville, and Marion and Tony Mottern, Watauga; Three Grandchildren: Richard Wright & Wife, Susan, Cathy Selbert and Michael C. Mottern; One Great Grandson: Bristol Selbert; A Sister: Edith Forbes, Hermitage Nursing Home, Elizabethton; Several Nieces & Nephews. Many special friends including a very special friend, Teresa Nidiffer.

    A Service to Celebrate the Life of Alta Smith will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Terry Lyons and Mr. Jordan Kellicut, Ministers, officiating.

    Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be: John Clark Jr., Richard "Dick" Clark, Larry Forbes, Danny Clark, Robert Clark, Paul Woodby, John Froggatt and Ben Clark. Honorary Pallbearers will be her Church family, Raymond Ward, Kenny Lewis, Frank Rankin, Mike Blair and Lewis Clark.

    The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence.

    The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the ICU Staff of North Side Hospital for all their love and care shown to our Mom.

    ELIZABETHTON – At the age of 99, Edith Clark Forbes peacefully went home to be with her Lord Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at Hermitage Health Care Center, Elizabethton.

    She was born February 25, 1920 and was the daughter of the late J. Frank and Maggie Treadway Clark. Edith was a wonderful, loving mother and devoted grandmother, and dearly loved her extended family. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and making crafts. Anyone who had a meal around her table was blessed by her excellent skill as a cook. She was a fun-loving person with a great sense of humor. Edith was the oldest member of Hopwood Memorial Christian Church, where she was active for many years. She loved attending the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center, where she had many friends. Edith participated in the Pinecrest Home Demonstration Club and enjoyed their activities.

    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Forbes was preceded in death by her husband W. T. "Bill" Forbes; brothers, Ray, Ralph and John Clark, sisters, Alta Smith, Dorothy Webb and Helen Lewis. She is survived by a son, Larry W. Forbes and his wife, Carla; a grandson, Brandon W. Forbes and his wife, Sarah and a granddaughter, Laura Forbes Allman and her husband, John; a sister-in-law, Alma Tester Clark and a brother-in-law, George W. Lewis.

    A Celebration of Life Service for Edith Clark Forbes will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 12, 2009 in Hopwood Memorial Christian Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 6:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday prior to the service.

    Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 13, 2009 in Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Brandon Forbes, Johnny Clark, Dicky Clark, Larry Howell, Del Oakes and Tony Mottern. Honorary pallbearers will be Duard Walker, John Banks, Carl Hoffman, Jack Knowles, Jeff Holt, Jeff Kelly, Roy Hampton and Mike McKinney.

    The family wishes to thank the staff of Hermitage Health Care Center, where Edith was lovingly cared for and treated with respect and dignity. We appreciate the Caris Hospice nurses who cared for Edith in her final days.
