    Notes:

    Arthur Glen Johnson enlisted in the US Army on 21 Jan 1902 and was discharged on Angel Island, California on 30 Jan 1905. During that period, he was assigned to the 22nd Infantry Regiment. This Regiment was deployed to The Philippines to fight in the Philippine-American War during 1900-1905. It is very likely that Arthur Glen Johnson served in the conflict.

    Glen was born in Taylorsville (Mountain City), Tennessee.
    21 Jan 1902, he enlisted in the army. His service was in the 28th and 22nd United States Infantry, which served in the Philippines. He was discharged at Angel Island, CA on 30 Jan 1905.
    On 17 Sept 1905 he and Oma Payne were married by Cpt Thomas J. Barry, JP (he had served in the Union army, Civil War).
    Glen and Oma had 3 children: Georgia Marie, Orville Emory, and Julia Beatrice "Little Bee" (Little Bee was not born until after the move to Oregon).
    Glen (as did some of his brothers) took his family out west. He first managed a wheat ranch in Condon, Oregon. When the owner of the ranch died, Glen moved on to Montana to get in on the Gold Rush (which ended not many years hence). The family lived in Whitcomb, Montana (a mining town near Zortman). During this time, Glen contracted blood poisoning. He died as he was being transported via stagecoach to a doctor. Glen is buried in Whitcomb, Montana, but no information has been given to indicate exactly where.

    MOUNTAIN CITY - Odell Johnson, age 82, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at his home.

    Odell was born November 16, 1936 in Johnson County, TN to the late Don Allen Johnson and Geneva Belle Edminsten Johnson. In addition to his parents Odell was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lucille Owens Johnson, his second wife, Martha Louise Arnold Johnson, brother, Allen Johnson and nephew, Bill Johnson.

    Odell was a 1955 graduate of Johnson County High School. He retired from Burlington Industries. He was with the Johnson County Rescue Squad for 15 years, Johnson County School Board 10 years, Johnson County Planning Commission 20 years, and Tri State Growers for 10 years. Odell was a member of the American Legion and Tennessee Cattlemen's Association. All who knew him knew he loved to work the farm, garden and travel.

    Odell was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

    He is survived by his wife, Laura Grinstead Johnson; brothers, Frank Johnson and wife Betty, Scott Johnson and wife Linda all of Mountain City, TN and Glenn 'Cotton' Johnson and friend Shirley of Bristol, TN; stepdaughters, Abigail Beale and husband Jerry of Greensboro, NC and Laurie Conrad and husband Jeff of Vansant, VA; stepsons, James L. Huggins and Joseph E.     The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the Mountain City Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Billy Morefield and Odell's brother, Preacher Frank Johnson officiating. Special music will be provided by the Laurel Creek Boys. Pallbearers will be Bob Stansbery, Rocky Johnson, Ronnie Johnson, Zach Johnson, Jerry Beale and Shawn Perry. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Triplett, Mike Wills, Chris Reece, George Lowe, James Icenhour, Tom Nelson, Glenn Robinson and Johnny Robinson. Graveside service and burial with military honors conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard will follow the funeral at the Phillippi Cemetery.

    Odell Johnson, age 82, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at his home. Odell was born November 16, 1936 in Johnson County, TN to the late Don Allen Johnson and Geneva Belle Edminsten Johnson. In addition to his parents Odell was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lucille Owens Johnson, his second wife, Martha Louise Arnold Johnson, brother, Allen Johnson and nephew, Bill Johnson.
    Odell was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Corinth Baptist Church.
    He is survived by his wife, Laura Grinstead Johnson; brothers, Frank Johnson and wife Betty, Scott Johnson and wife Linda all of Mountain City, TN and Glenn 'Cotton' Johnson and friend Shirley of Bristol, TN; stepdaughters, Abigail Beale and husband Jerry of Greensboro, NC and Laurie Conrad and husband Jeff of Vansant, VA; stepsons, James L. Huggins and Joseph E. She was born October 25, 1915 in Johnson Hollow, Mountain City, TN to the late F.E. (Ed) Johnson and Maud Wagner Johnson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Worley Nave and by her precious twins, Eddy Nave of Elizabethton in 2002 and Judy Nave of Mountain City in 2008; special daughter-in-law, Brenda McQueen Nave of Elizabethton; sister, Rebecca Johnson Reece and husband Kermit Reece; brother, Martin Johnson and wife Hazel; sister-in-law, Nell Nave Rambo and husband Ohlan Rambo, and parents-in-law, Charlie and Ninnie Nave.

    Surviving loved ones include her loving daughter Mary Nave, of the home; niece, Susie Johnson Stovall and husband Charles; nephew, Charles Johnson and wife Luise; niece, Pat Rambo Luther; nephew Bob Rambo and wife Grace, and several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

    She was a member of the Pleasant View Christian Church and attended First Christian Church of Mountain City. She retired after 30 years as a teacher in the Johnson County School System. She graduated from Johnson County High School, Virginia Intermont College, and E.T.S.U. She was also an artist.

    All are welcome to the graveside service and interment for Madge Marie Johnson Nave on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from the Mountain View Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dwayne Dickson, Pastor Ken Caswell, and Associate Pastor James Bowman officiating.

    MOUNTAIN CITY - Miss Georgia Marie Johnson, age 99, of Mountain City, passed away Monday, February 6, 2006, at Watauga Medical Center. Miss Johnson was a lifelong resident of Johnson County and was a daughter of the late Arthur Glenn and Oma Payne Johnson. She was a retired school teacher and taught in the Johnson County School System and Bristol Tennessee School System. She was a member of the Johnson County Retired Teachers Association, member of the Johnson County Historical Society, and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. Georgia was an accomplished artist and author. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Johnson; and a brother, Orville Johnson. Survivors included her cousins of the Johnson and Payne Families and her many friends. The family will receive friends from 12 until 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church with the service to follow at 1 p.m. with James Hutchinson, Minister, and the Rev. Larry Rye officiating. Pallbearers will be men of First United Methodist Church. The interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.     Erby Lee Johnson, age 82, of Mountain City, TN went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born August 6, 1934 to the late Whitlaw Johnson and Una Louisa Arney Johnson. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having retired after 23 years of service. Following his retirement from the military, he worked for Lockheed and later worked as a pipeline inspector. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Everett Johnson and Whitlaw Dent Johnson, Jr.

    Erby was a unique man. It has been said that there was never a dull or boring moment around him. He was a man with a large personality and lived his life to the beat of his own drum. Erby loved Mountain City and Johnson County. He owned two airplanes and enjoyed flying over the beautiful mountains. He was a member of First Christian Church.

    Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Brenda Naldrett Johnson, a son, Gary Lee Johnson and wife Dana, sisters Evelyn Gentry and husband Thurman, Lois Lovell and husband Frank, and Francis Russell, a brother Joseph Park Johnson and wife Mary, grandchildren Celise Nicole Johnson, John Wesley Johnson, Jackson Lee Johnson, and Robert Dent Johnson, great-grandchildren Madison Michelle Johnson, Harper Nash Willis, and Jackson Lee Johnson, II., along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 PM at Mountain City Funeral on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 with Pastor Dwayne Dickson officiating. A service presenting full military honors will follow the memorial service.
