    Viz: I recommend my Soul to God who Gave it to me and my Body to the Earth to be Decently Buried at the Discretion of my Executors, in sure and certain hopes of a joyful resurrection through the merits of my blessed Saviour Him I give and Bequeath unto my son Sampson Wall my Land and Plantation where I now live to him and his heirs

    ITEM I give Bequeath unto my son Sampson Wall my Negroes~~Fellow named Jack to be kept upon the Plantation for the Maintenance of my Wife Lucy Wall during her Natural life and after her Death to him and his Heirs

    Notes:

    In the book, 'Deep Enough for Ivory Bills', by James Kilgo, the author describes several hunting trips which go into the deep forests surrounding the Savannah River. On one of these trips, he stumbles across an old grave yard which was quite grown up and hidden. He wrote down the tombstone inscriptions and later found information about the site. It was the Old Greenwood Plantation, which was settled by David DeLoach before the Revolutionary War. He describes the site as being 'near Hampton County on the Savannah River'. The tombstone inscriptions were:
    DeLoach David died 13 July 1815, age 63
    Rebeckah wife of David died 10 October 1807, age 40
    James died 1824, age 27 Sarah wife of James died 1825
    David infant died Feb 1795
    Jepthah infant died Mar 1805
    Elevia wife of William B. DeLoach died 27 Nov 1822, age 18

    These inscriptions pose some questions concerning the children of David DeLoach. In Frampton Errol Ellis's 'Some Historic Families of South Carolina', he states that David (1752-1815) was the son of Michael DeLoach and Dorcas Still. He goes on to say that 'He (David) left three sons:
    a. William B. - who married Kate Gohagan and left a number of children.
    b. David - born about 1798 and was the father of Rebecca Jane who married her cousin Michael DeLoach, they being the grandparents of Ben T. DeLoach, Clerk of Hampton County.
    c. Redding Cannon DeLoach - who married 1st Martha Ann Thomson and 2nd Esther Patterson. One child by the second mariage was Freelove Patterson DeLoach who married Capt. William Lambert De Pass of Camden and is mentioned as being a cousin of Col. Dan H. Ellis in the war diary of Emily Caroline Ellis.'

    The information concerning James DeLoach indicates that he was one of David's sons, and that Sarah was his wife. Why didn't Ellis include him? The information concerning Elevia indicates that she was either the first wife of William B. DeLoach, or could have possibly been the wife of William B. DeLoach, Jr. The dates of death for the infants David and Jepthah indicate that they were children of David and Rebeckah. Who, then, was the David mentioned by Ellis?

    From Pat Bonneau :

    The 1810 Federal Census for Lexington County, SC, lists Rev. Thomas DeLoach. He has three boys under 10. The next male is 45 or over. There are three girls under 10; the next female is 26 to 44 years old. He has one slave. (Source Ancestry.com Online Image 19 of 27.) According to the Pressley-Price family history, Sarah Watkins was his wife during this census. She died in 1818.

    Research in the Baptist Archives at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, shows that Thomas DeLoach, Jr., was a licensed preacher in 1794-97 and 1799-1800. He was an ordained minister from 1802 to 1803. He was a messenger from Cloud's Creek Church at the Baptist Association Meeting on Sept. 12, 1812. He reported 99 members at Cloud's Creek Church. He was also present from the same church at the Dry Creek Meeting on September 19, 1818, when 57 members were reported.     In 1773, Thomas DeLoach had a survey made on land on the Red Bank and Penn Creek section of Little Saluda. A survey was also made for Thomas DeLoach in the Edgefield District on the Shaw's Creek branch of the South Edisto River in 1825. Plats 14,366. 195, 5. (Source Furman University Special Archives).

    During his time in the Lexington/Orangeburg Counties of South Carolina, he was the minister at Dean Swamp Baptist Church, as mentioned in a book by Ellen P. Chapin (excerpt follows)

    Dean Swamp Baptist Church is located three miles west of Springfield, S. C., and about one-quarter of a mile off S. C. Highway No. 4.

    "A History of Dean Swamp Baptist Church, 1803 -1903", compiled by Rev. H. L. Baggott, has been preserved. The preface to the booklet reads "Pursuant to an appointment by Bethel Association, a presbytery composed of the following named ministers of the Gospel, Rev. Henry King, Rev. Thomas de Loach, Rev. John Landrum, and Rev. George de Laughter, did on the 5th of November, 1803, organize a church with 31 members called The Baptist Church of Christ on Dean Swamp."

    The Reverend Isaac Levesque was the church's first recorded itinerant preacher. Twenty-one members pledged to pay amounts from one dollar to ten dollars, of which $44 was known to be paid to the minister.

    It is believed that the church received its name from an early Irish immigrant, Patrick Dean. Records do not show when the first church was built. The second church building was erected in 1845.

    On August 23, 1899, the members of Dean Swamp Baptist Church bought, from C. J. Stoman, one acre of land for one dollar. Recorded in Book 28, Page 204, Orangeburg County Clerk of Court's office.

    According to legend, a German immigrant, Frederick Weimer, buried a "chimney cooking kettle" filled with gold in the church yard when he learned that Sherman's army was approaching.
