  1. 1.  John Powell was born about 1695 in Isle of Wight County, , , Virginia; died about 1762.

    Notes:

    I, John Powell, of the Isle of Wight County in Virginia, being in perfect
    health and memory, but calling to mind the uncertainty of this life, and
    that it is appointed for all men to die, do constitute and ordain this my
    Last Will and Testament, hereby renoucing and disannuling all other former
    wills by me made, desiring that this only may be taken for my last Will and
    Testament in manner and form as followeth, viz:

    Item I give and bequeath unto my daugther Mourning DeLoach all the things
    that I hve already possessed her with and also one shilling current money of
    Virginia I give it to her and her heirs forever.

    Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Riggins all the things that
    I have already possessed her with and also one shilling current money of
    Virginia, I give to her and her heirs forever.

    Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Pilkinton all the
    things that I have already possessed her with, and also one shilling current
    money of Virginia, I give it to her and her heirs forever.

    Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Christian Garner all the things
    that I have already possessed her with and also one shilling current money
    of Virginia, I give it to her and her heirs forever.

    Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Alice Powell my land and
    plantation whereon I now live, during her natural life; only my sister Sarah
    Powell and my two daughters viz. Sarah Powell and Lydia Powell to have the
    liberty on the plantation as long as they live single, and also leave the
    remainder of my estate to my loving wife Alice Powell to her during her life
    and after her death to be equally divided amongst my six children viz.,
    Mourning, Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah, Christian, and Lydia, excepting my Coopers
    and carpenters tools and cross cut saw, one gun, pistols and holsters and
    sword, I give to my son Moses Powell, my plantation where I now live, after
    my wife's death, I give it to him and his heirs forever, and I do make,
    ordain, and appoint my son Moses Powell to be my whole and sole executor of
    this my Last Will and Testament, this I own to be my Last will and Testament
    revoking and disannuling all other wills and testament.

    In witness whereof have hereunto set my hand and seal this 14th day of June
    1760.

    At a court held for the Isle of Wight County, April the 1st 1762 - the last
    will and testament of John Powel, dec'd was presented in court by Moses
    Powel the executor therein named, who made oath thereto and being proved by
    the oaths of John Marshall, Ann Marshall, and Elizabeth Gale the witnesses
    thereto, is ordered to be recorded.
    Test.
