    Virginia L. Pinckard, 94, of Elizabethton, passed away Monday, April 13, 2015, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home.
    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Brownlow and Mary Estep Scalf. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Pinckard, and a sister, Frances Lewis.
    Virginia attended Steed College and was employed at Beaunit Fibers as a secretary for 34 years. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church.
    Survivors include a son, David Pinckard, Elizabethton; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Jim Cornett, Jefferson City; three granddaughters and their husbands, Angie and Adam Bradley, Johnson City, Kristi and John Hommell, Kingsport, and Regina and Bill Nutter, Nashville; and five great-grandchildren, Blake Bradley, Lauren Hommell, Shelby and Will Nutter and Alex Phillips.
    A Celebration of Life Service for Virginia L. Pinckard will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at her residence, 703 N. Main Street, Elizabethton, Apartment #3, with the Rev. Raymond Amos officiating. Private disposition of cremains will be at a later date.

    DANDRIDGE - Paul Scalf, 78, Dandridge, Tennessee, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 at the residence of his daughter Sonia Jeanice Banner, Hampton after an eight month illness.

    A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Roy Scalf & Alma Montgomery Scalf Banner. He was a graduate of Hampton High School. He had owned and operated Scalf's Wholesale Bait in Dandridge for thirty years. Paul was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge # 750, Scottish rite and Shriner. He was a member of Union Baptist Church, Hampton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years: Joan Shaw Scalf, a granddaughter: Rachel Ann Scalf, a daughter-in-law: Genia Scalf, one sister: Marie Bussink, and four brothers: Hampy, Jimmy, Pat & Glenn Scalf.

    Survivors in addition to his daughter Sonia include two sons: Anthony Scalf, Hampton and Wesley Scalf, Dandridge. His Grandchildren: Linda Clawson, John Paul Scalf, both of Hampton, Joy Truman, Charlie Scalf both of Jonesborough, Jason Scalf , Jesse Scalf, Dandridge. His great grandchildren: Rachel Nelson, Ayden Scalf, Patsy Ann Scalf, Billie Jean Scalf all of Hampton, Jakob Smelcer, Harlee Truman both of Jonesborough, Jason Scalf II, Anzley Scalf, Paislee Scalf all of Dandridge. His Sisters: Lorraine Campbell, Elizabethton and Jean Potter of Maryland. Several nieces & nephews. His special friends: Sam & Barbara Grindstaff.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2017 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiation Interment will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Jimmy Scalf, Kevin Scalf, Michael Scalf, Josh Shankle, Robert Clawson, Mike Wallen, Joe Waycaster and Eddie Julian.     Steven Glen Scalf Sr., 74, of Roan Mountain, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016, at his home.
    Mr. Scalf was a native of Carter County, Tenn. He was a graduate of Hampton High School and was a plumber.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Scalf, and his mother, Alma Montgomery Scalf Banner, both of Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Hempy Joe Scalf, Pat Scalf and Jimmy Scalf, and a sister, Marie Bussink.
    Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Scalf; two sons, Chris Scalf and Steven Scalf Jr., both of Maryland; a step-daughter, Dawn L. Kennedy of Florida; three grandchildren, Justin, Brian and Olivia Scalf, all of Maryland; and two step-grandchildren, Breyana and Brooklyn Kennedy of Florida. He is also survived by two sisters, Jean Potter of Maryland and Lorraine Campbell of Tennessee; a brother, Paul Scalf of Tennessee; a special nephew, Michael Scalf; and two special friends, Shirley Cornett and Frank Highsmith, both of Tennessee. He will be especially missed by his furry baby, cat Shadow Scalf.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, November 5, at Memorial Funeral Chapel. The family will begin receiving friends at 2 p.m. The graveside service and interment will follow the service at Clarktown Cemetery in Roan Mountain.

    Kenneth Vaughn Hardin, 79, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness.
    Mr. Hardin worked at Holston Defense from November of 1961 to September 1997 with 30 years of perfect attendance. He was a fast pitch softball pitcher from the early 1960's through the 1970's for several teams.
    Mr. Hardin and his wife owned and operated their family business, Ken's Fashions, for many years. He was a member of Siam Baptist Church but attended Lynn Valley Baptist Church. He was known as "Pappaw" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved so much.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce E. Bullock Hardin; parents, Robert and Bertie Hardin; daughter, Lisa Ellen Hardin; and granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Holly.
    He is survived by his children, Sharon Edwards and her husband, Gary, Kenny Hardin and his wife, Tammy, and Angie Holly and her husband, Billy; brother, Ira Dean Hardin; step-brother, R.L. Gobble; grandchildren, Stephanie Garland and her husband, Timmy, Korey Hardin, Bethany Ingram and her husband, Alex, and Lucas Holly; great-grandchildren, Colby Garland and Cambrie Ingram; and several nieces and nephews.
    The funeral service for Mr. Hardin will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at Lynn Valley Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until the service hour. Graveside services will be conducted following the service in the Hardin Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Korey Hardin, Lucas Holly, Colby Garland, Timmy Garland, Alex Ingram, Dennis Scalf, Tommy Scalf and Ronald Scalf. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Lynn Valley Baptist Church, retired employees of Holston Defense, and his softball teammates from the '60s and '70s. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Caris Hospice, Hermitage Health Center, Rev. Dennis Wilson, Dr. Vivian Clark and Ann Deal, Lynn Valley Baptist Church, John Allen, Ron and Peggy Scalf, and special caregivers, Ina Roark, Dennis Nichols and Kelly Whisenhunt.

    Ira was fun, loving, caring and an awesome brother and son. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed camping, fishing, running equipment and spending time with his family and friends.
    In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents on his father’s side, Bertie Lola Scalf Hardin and Robert Lee Hardin, and grandparents on his mother’s side, Minnie Katie Browder Johnson and Rev. Carl Herman Johnson Sr.
    Those left to cherish his memory are his father, Ira Dean Hardin Sr., of the home; two sisters, Kim Waycaster (Travis Carnes) and Deanna (Arthur) Nichols of Elizabethton; son, Richard (Alisha) Perkey of Kingsport; close friends, Jean Morgan and Peggy Jordan of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Emma Perkey, Paisley Perkey and Oakley Perkey; three nephews, Johnathan (Michelle) Nichols of Limestone, Noah Nichols and Trevor (Macy) Waycaster of Elizabethton; a niece, Shirley Waycaster; and two great-nephews, Sage Nichols and James Nichols.
