Richard E. Fletcher, age 76 of Butler, Sink Valley, died unexpectedly while at work on the farm Thursday at 2:15 p.m. He was a native of Johnson County, son of the late James and Alice Holden Fletcher. He was a farmer and member of the Sink Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gladys Fletcher, Butler; two sons, R.E. Fletcher, Jr., Hammond, Ind. and Ralph Fletcher, also of Hammond; five daughters, Mrs. Irene Collaze, and Mrs. Ruby Long, both of Hammond, Ind., Mrs. Dora Long, Maryville, Mrs. Reta White, and Mrs. Pearl Trivett, both of Highpoint, N.C.; three brothers, Noah Fletcher and Dorsey Fletcher, both of Butler and Phillip Fletcher of Unicoi; five sisters, Mrs. Lona Stout and Mrs. Rosa Stout, both of Butler, Mrs. Mollie Stout, Milligan College, Mrs. Vertie Hartley, Elizabethton and Mrs. Bessie Rhymer of Johnson City; also nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted from Sink Valley Baptist Church Sunday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dolphus Foister and Rev. Burl Garland officiating. Pallbearers were Edd Stout, Howard Stout, Edd Arnold, Karl Pleasant, Millard Fletcher, Raymond Stout, Allen Birchfield and Joe Hackney.

Blaine Hartley, 100, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was a son of the late Letcher Ruben and Virdie Fletcher Hartley and was born in Butler, Tenn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cora June Pleasant Hartley; his oldest son, Blaine Edward Hartley; two sisters, Florence Hartley and Beatrice Baines Ketchem; a brother, Jonathan Hartley; a sister-in-law, Betty Jo Hartley; and three brothers-in-law, Herman Howard, Bill Kemp and James Baines.
Mr. Hartley was a decorated veteran of the United States Army, having served his country during WWII and receiving the Purple Heart. He loved to work in the garden, and on old cars, and enjoyed being outdoors. He was committed to his faith, and was known for his honesty and integrity. He was a member of Hunter Memorial Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory include three children, Evelyn Hartley Hawk (Clayton) of Elizabethton, Barbara Shipley (Ronald) of Huntersville, N.C., and Dr. Gale Hartley (Leslie) of Mountain City; four brothers, James Hartley of Knoxville, Roby Hartley (Ethel) of Maryville, Kenneth Hartley (Jeanne) of Elizabethton and Martin Hartley (Wanda) of Knoxville; two sisters, Ruth Howard of Williamsburg, Va., and Margaret Kemp of Portland, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Ann Hartley of Soddy-Daisy; nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mr. Hartley was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 2, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Dr. Gale Hartley officiating. Music was under the direction of John Brookshire, Chris Cain, Kyle Smith, Doug Hartley, Neal Hartley and John Hartley. The family received friends in the funeral home chapel from 1:30 until 3 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the home of his daughter, Evelyn Hawk, at other times. The graveside service and interment was conducted on Tuesday, September 4, at 1:30 p.m. at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Ron Owens delivering a eulogy. Military Honors were provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers were his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were the Pastor and Deacons of Hunter Memorial Baptist Church.

Millard H. Fletcher, age 82, of Butler, TN, passed Saturday, July 9, 2011 following an extended illness. He was born on February 27, 1929 to the late Noah Monroe Fletcher and Effie Marie Reed Fletcher. In addition to his parents, Millard was preceded in death by sisters: Cleona Plummer, Juanita Murray and Marie Cline and brother, Spencer Fletcher. He was a 59 year member of Roan Creek Masonic Lodge #679 F&AM and was also a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was of the Baptist faith.

Millard is survived by his wife of 59 ½ years, Pearl Fletcher; daughters and sons-in-law: Sharon and Walter Church, Jean and Frank Osborne, all of Butler, TN and Jane and Andy Worman of Dunnellon, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Billy Wayne and Mandy Fletcher of Butler, TN; sisters and brother-in-law: Hazel and Wiley Crowder of Mountain City, TN, Lorraine Allen of Hickory, NC and Louise Stansberry of Butler, TN; brothers and sisters-in-law: Denvis and Linda Fletcher of Elizabethton, TN; Dorsey and Donna Fletcher of Mountain City, TN and McKinley Fletcher of Elizabethton, TN; brother-in-law, Troy Pierce of Dayton, TN; grandchildren: Billy Reed Fletcher and wife Brandy, Dennis Fletcher and wife Jessica, Shelly Atwood, Kevin Potter, Brent Whitehead and Cody Fletcher; great grandchildren: Caleb, Tommy, Austin, Thunder, Isabella and Adrian.

Denvis Allen Fletcher, 85, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 22, 2019, surrounded by family. He was born in Johnson County to the late Noah and Retha (Effie) Reed Fletcher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Linda; two sons, Dennis Fletcher and Wayne Fletcher; three brothers, Spencer, Millard and Dorsey; and four sisters, Cleona, Juanita, Marie and Louise.
Den was a member of Lynn Valley Baptist Church and always put God first. He loved his family, being outside and building birdhouses, as well as making quilts and tending the garden.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Danny Fletcher and wife Angie and David Hinkle and wife Gretchen; his daughter, Susie Allen; a brother, McKinley Fletcher; two sisters, Hazel Crowder and Lorraine Allen; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two very special friends, Jim Campbell and Ken Potter.

Louise Stansberry, age 70, of Butler, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, May 01, 2017. She was born on May 9, 1946 to the late Noah and Effie Reed Fletcher. In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Stansberry; sisters: Cleona Plummer, Juanita Cress and Marie Kline and brothers: Millard Fletcher, Spencer Fletcher and Dorsey Fletcher.

Louise was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

She grew up farming and really enjoyed gardening and growing beautiful flowers. She also worked at Leco/Levi's and Mountain City Care Center. She was known for her words of wisdom. She loved her church, her family and especially her granddaughters.

Those left to cherish her memories include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Angie Fletcher; sisters: Hazel Crowder and Lorraine Allen; brothers: Denvis Fletcher and McKinley Fletcher; grandchildren: Nikki Trivette and Amy Fletcher; beloved friend, Kathleen Harmon and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service for Louise will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Don Winters and Pastor Lynn Hicks officiating. Graveside service and interment will follow at the Sugar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Danny Fletcher, Ben Wheeler, Keith Kight, J.R. Stansberry, Lester Ward, and David Green. Ruby Mae Long, 84, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at her home. She was born to the late Richard and Glady Fletcher.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William James Long; brother, R.E. Fletcher; and sisters, Rita White and Irene Collazo.
Ruby was a member of Southern Baptist Church, Hammond, Ind., and attended Eastside FWB Church in Elizabethton. She enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. She had a passion for reading her Bible and attending Bible classes. She loved spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Teresa Heaton (Louie) of Elizabethton and Angie Winters of Asheville; son, Dr. Billy Joe Long (Lisa) of Roanoke, Va.; seven grandchildren, Aaron Winters, Tony Heaton, Christopher Heaton, Sabrina Heaton, Conner Long, Logan Mackley and Zachary Mackley; several great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph Fletcher of Elizabethton; and two sisters, Pearl Trivette and Dora Long, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service for friends and family to celebrate the life of Ruby Mae Long will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, July 19, at Fletcher Cemetery in Butler, Tenn., with Rev. Harvey White officiating.

Mrs. Nina Ruth Edwards of Johnson City went home to be with her Lord following an extended and courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at her residence.

A native of Johnson County, TN she was the daughter of the late James Stout Jr. and Viola Myra Greene Stout.

Mrs. Edwards had worked at Empire Furniture, Artcraft Glove Company, Harris Flooring, as a caregiver at Appalachian Christian Village and at the U.S. Forestry Service. She had attended Higgins Chapel Baptist Church and taught Sunday School at Green Pine Baptist Church. Mrs. Edwards loved flowers and to garden.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Stout as well as two infant brothers and a sister, Rosa.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-nine years, Cecil B., of the home; two daughters; five granddaughters and their husbands.

Pallbearers will be employees of the U.S. Forestry Service.

JOHNSON CITY - Geneva Osborne, age 84, of Johnson City, TN passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Johnson City Medical Center. She was born in Butler, TN to the late James Stout and Viola Green Stout. Geneva was of the Freewill Baptist faith. She loved to go to church, especially with her brother Darrell. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and working in her flowers. Geneva never met a stranger; she was one to love everybody.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd Stout and David Stout; two sisters, Rosa DiGregorio, Ruth Edwards and three infant brothers.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Debra Bush, of Johnson City; son, Mark Osborne (Patty), of Johnson City; four grandchildren, Michelle Ayers (Kevin), of Jonesborough, Harvey Norton (Brittany), of Jonesborough, David Osborne (Kelly), of Johnson City and Kaitlyn Osborne, of Gray; six great-grandchildren, Alyssa Claspill (Winston), Johnny Ayers, Daniel Osborne, Kelsey Osborne, Makayla Norton and Madison Norton; two great-great grandchildren, Elizabeth Claspill and Amara Claspill; two brothers, Darrell Stout and Paul Stout, of Johnson City; sister, Evelyn Scott and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Geneva Osborne will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, December 17, 2022 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Reverend David Greene and Reverend Mike Lamb officiating. Music will be under the direction of Sherry Tilson. The family will receive friends prior to the service between the hours of 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM on Saturday.

The graveside service and interment will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 18, 2022 in the Stout Cemetery, Johnson City, TN. Pallbearers will be David Osborne, Darrell Stout, Harvey Norton, Johnny Ayers, Kevin Ayers, Winston Claspill and Jeff Lyons. Honorary Pallbearers are Paul Stout and Tony Stout.

Betty Jane Fritts, age 69, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017. She was born November 26, 1947 to the late Spencer Fletcher and Margaret Jene Street. Betty enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed working in her flowers and helping at Hales Ministry but most of all she enjoyed being with her two dogs, BB and Lucky.

Survivors include: Husband: Roy "Buster" Fritts; Son: Robbie Allen Fletcher; Step-Son: Brian Fritts; Step Daughter: Crystal and husband Martin Norris and Kathy and husband Johnny Feltner; Grandchildren: Robbie Fletcher, Jacob Fletcher, Christina Norris, and Brittany Norris. Step-Grandchildren: Becky, Kimberly and Brandy Fritts and Josh Feltner; Two Brothers: Bobby Fletcher and Teddy Street, both of Mountain City, TN. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive and her special friend Ellen Stout.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2017 at Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux Lipford Funeral Home. with Rev. Harvey White officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Graveside service and interment will follow in Mast Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Buck Fritts, George Roark, Marty Norris, Dustin Fritts, Billy Davis and Joey Allen.

Billy Wayne Fletcher, age 60, of Butler, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016. He was born on September 4, 1956 to Ina Pearl Fletcher and the late Millard Fletcher.
Billy worked in construction for many years. He was a kind, caring and loving man who was always there to lend a helping hand to family, friends or anyone that needed help, without any questions. He loved animals, especially horses.
