    Rev. James William "Bill" Jaynes, age 75, of 110 Dogwood Acres Road, Hampton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 05, 2012 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was a Carter County native and was born on October 26, 1936 to the late Claude H. "Pappa Joe" and Mary Williams "Mama Jo" Jaynes. Mr. Jaynes was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and a graduate of East Tennessee State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and retired as a supervisor for the Department of Human Services. Mr. Jaynes was also a retired minister having pastored for over 30 years at several churches, including, Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church, Sunset Free Will Baptist Church, Morgan's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, and Green Mountain Free Will Baptist Church. He was presently serving as deacon at Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church where he was an active member. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, June Jaynes Harrison and a brother-in-law, Max Harrison. Survivors include his loving and caring wife of 50 years, Thelma Cates Jaynes; a son, Jack Allen Jaynes, Hampton; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Kent Burdick; Hampton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill and Sally Cates, Rev. Garland and Doris James, Gilbert and Judy Honeycutt, and Ben and Joy Williams. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The celebration of life service will be conducted on Tuesday, February 7th at 8:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Shane Waters officiating. Mr. Gilbert Honeycutt will deliver the eulogy. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Bobby Lee Cates. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM, prior to the service, and at the residence at other times. The graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, February 8th at 10:00 AM at the John Whitehead Cemetery in Hampton. Active pallbearers will be Mike Hill, Joe Street, Eddie Orr, Glen Cates, Mike James, Mark Honeycutt, Ben Allen Williams and Steve Slagle. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church and fellow pastors. Everyone will meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 9:15 AM on Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will like to extend a very special thank you to Ben and Joy Williams, Mountain States Hospice, the doctors and nurses, and for his church families for their love and support during his illness.

    James married Thelma Mae Cates about 1958 in , Giles County, Tennessee, . Thelma (daughter of William Nelson Cates and Zemma Loucille Gouge) was born on 26 May 1937 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 20 May 2021 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in John Whitehead Cemetery, , Carter County, Tennessee.
