    Notes:

    Edna Pearl Bowers Ayers, a resident of Hillview Health Center, Elizabethton, died Monday, February 2, 2015, at the age of 93. Pearl was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late William Chrisley and Lola Carriger Bowers.
    Pearl was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. She was married to Navy Seaman Willie Ayers from North Carolina for 54 years before his death in 1998. A former employee of North American Rayon Corporation, Pearl and her husband moved to Colorado for a short time where they ran the Loveland Café. Their next move was to Washington, D.C. where they owned and operated Ayers Guest Houses and Laundry Route Services from 1948 to 1995 before retiring and returning to Carter County.
    Pearl was an avid gardener, loved animals and birds, crocheting, mystery novels, collecting postcards and elephants. She was of the Baptist faith.
    In addition to her husband, Pearl was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Jean Ayers; her brothers, Ray and Floyd Bowers; nephews, Larry Dean Bowers and Ray Roberson; and a sister-in-law, Irene Roberson.
    Survivors include her sister, Ina Mae Soto; her nieces, Deborah Meyer, Dianna Tucker and Christina Soto Whitfield and husband Rex; a great-niece, March Goodling; a great-nephew, Jesse Meyer; and great-great-nephew, Jeremy Bell. Other special nieces and nephews are Roseanna Lowe, Gary Roberson and Ann Willis, and special friends, Helen Blevins and Luther Taylor.
    Funeral services for Edna Pearl Bowers Ayers will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, February 6, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. R.L. Poole officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

    Floyd J. Bowers, 76, 1436 Charity Hill Road, Elizabethton, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, following a lengthy illness.

    Mr. Bowers was a Carter County native and a son of the late William and Lola Carriger Bowers.

    He was retired from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

    Mr. Bowers was a previous Sunday school director and member of Siam Baptist Church, Elizabethton.

    He was a member of American Legion Post No. 49.

    Mr. Bowers was a World War II Marine Corps veteran.

    He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Mildred Jenkins Bowers; one son, Larry Dean Bowers; and one brother, Ray Bowers.

    Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Maxie Bowers; one stepson, Daniel Andrew Johnson, Hampton; two sisters, Pearl Ayers, Elizabethton, and Ina Mae Soto, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services for Floyd J. Bowers, age 76, 1436 Charity Hill Road, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, June 21, 2001 will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, with Revs. Jack Roddy, Ray Stockton, and Billy Stockton officiating. Graveside services and entombment will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2001 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors to be accorded by Capt. Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be Chris Jenkins, Gerald Jenkins, Fred Jenkins, Bill Anderson, Dan Crowe, Charles Lipford, and Lawrence Dial. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Siam Baptist Church and Staff of VA Nursing Home Unit, 2nd floor. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2001 for the graveside services. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace.

    Ina was born in Charity Hill, Tennessee, the daughter of William C. Bowers and Lola M. Carriger Bowers.

    Growing up, Ina attended Siam Baptist Church and after graduating from Elizabethton High School, she left the homeplace for the Washington, D.C. area where she met her husband while working at the National Rifle Association. Ina raised her family in Kensington, Maryland. She and her husband retired to Lighthouse Point, Florida in 1984 to enjoy the beach. Ina returned to the mountains of Tennessee that she loved in 2010, where her husband, George B. Soto Jr., of 50 years preceded her in death.

    Ina was an avid gardener, she enjoyed watching her backyard birds, the National Zoo Panda Cam, “Bonanza” reruns, and spending time with her daughters, (and feeding stray cat “Miss Kitty”). She also loved books, music and art of all kinds.

    In addition to her husband, Ina is preceded in death by her sister, Pearl Ayers; brothers, Ray and Floyd Bowers; nephew, Larry Bowers; and niece Barbara Ayers.

    Ina is survived by her twin daughters, Deborah Lee Meyer and Dianna Lynne Tucker, and her daughter, Christina Rachel Soto (Rex Whitfield); granddaughter, March Lea Gooding (Owen Bell); grandson, Jesse Dean Meyer (Louise); and great grandson, Jeremy Lee Bell.
